While all the focus for the past 2 days has been the new PS5 software update, it looks like Sony actually snuck in some tweaks to the controller with its firmware update as well. It’s changed the way the DualSense vibrates when playing PS4 games, something that was always significantly weak for some reason. The haptic feedback now more closely emulates the feeling of those DualShock 4 rumble motors. In games like Rocket League and God of War, it’s made a valuable difference. After playing games in backwards compatibility for 5 months, it’s something I noticed right away. I don’t get why it wasn’t mentioned in their notes like everything else. Maybe they plan to perfect it even more over time.

Yeah, just experienced this today while playing some ps4 games. Played ratchet and clank ps4 last couple of day and didn't get that much feedback. Tried it today, after the update, and the controller was very responsive.
ID: gup4pnfID: gup6vog'Stronger vibration for PS4 games' doesn't read very nice imo 😛
ID: gupi6pkIt fixed my L3 stick drift I had too
ID: guplh8uInteresting! What sort of drift are we talking about? I had a sort of reverse drift on my L3, where moving it full right only registered as very slightly right (so really slow movement to the right in some games). Wondering if the update will have fixed mine too...
ID: gupyrv8I hope this is true! Before the update, my L3 drift would go in and out. I haven't noticed it since so hopefully you're right and it's been completely fixed.
ID: gupfr3qOh cool. Going to try Ratchet tonight then.

Huh... I noticed vibrations feeling more... “rumbly” while playing Persona 5 yesterday but thought I was just crazy... nice to know it’s something that actually has changed!
ID: guq4qm3I noticed the same things with Persona 5! Thought I was just imagining it
ID: guplogtSame. Noticed this playing GoW last night.

Something I noticed was the charging icon is displayed different and shows what is left to charge, rather than always having 3 bars flashing when charging. My controller would charge for a few hours while playing and then display a question mark...which seems to have been fixed, I have only seen a handful of others report the same issue. Strangely, I still get a better battery life charging from a wall socket, than I do while charging while playing.
ID: gup9hzzThis as well. The new charging icon is actually accurate and useful. I wonder how different charging speed and battery life are when using the stock charging dock vs using a wall socket or usb-c on the system itself.
ID: gupa2tmUsing a wall socket with the correct adapter (5v/1.5amp) takes 4 hrs or so and give me 7 to 8 hrs.
Usb port (while playing) takes 2 to 3hrs or so, gives me 4 to 5 hrs.
Haven't tried a docking station, rear USB ports or any port in rest mode.
All times are rough, never used a stopwatch or anything lol. But yeah, certainly a difference...strange. I have 2 controllers and both behave the same, I find it hard to believe I have 2 faulty controllers.
The only variable between other players is what games they play and whether the haptics or speaker or mic are used and to what degree. I have seen reports of battery life vary wildly from 5hrs to 15hrs.

Yer I noticed this when playing wreckfest that the vibration was more "in stereo" rather than in mono like the previous update. Its a great one, getting happier with the ps5 day by day!
ID: gupak4dDefinitely more definition to it lol. I get what you mean

Also after the update my right stick drift is gone.
ID: gupcsz9They increased the dead zone probably
ID: gupdo4dThis was my fear even before the update. Since I dont experience drift I would like to keep the tighter deadzone instead. :/ but I guess we dont know for sure that they made it bigger, hopefully they manage to just recalibrate or something instead.
Best would be if they put in a deadzone slider systemwide.
ID: gupd9vxAnd my left stick drift is also gone
ID: guphi4lI only started getting it this week and it also disappeared after the update. interesting
ID: gup8ximLol that's awesome. Didn't know that could be fixed by software
ID: gup97ddThere should just be a deadzone setting in the console so if someone starts experiencing drift they can just increase the deadzone and stop the problem, you'll lose a little bit of responsiveness with a bigger deadzone but atleast it'll work.

Are you guys able to download any games remotely using ps remote play app on your PS5? While you are away?
ID: gupa83aYes, no problem with that. I think that you must first enable the option on the PS5 settings
ID: gupb5ouYeah, I was trying to do it now but the app told me to enable the setting from the console first.
ID: gupav0rYeah that’s worked with no issues. I’m now waiting for the update that let’s us manage storage space from the app. I haven’t seen any change yet
ID: gupai9uYes no problem, and if disk is full you are redirected to manage disk space.
ID: gupb3imThanks. That is good to know that I will be redirected.
ID: gupba1yYeah, was downloading games while at work and got home to them all done, pretty sweet.

I was just happy that the main PS5 firmware update fixed the Wi-Fi connectivity issue that was introduced in the previous firmware update. I don't have to run a 10M cable between my switch and my PS5 any more.
ID: gupnjjnOmg no way I have been wondering for ages why every time I turn my ps5 on it wasn't connected to wifi and would have to like go to settings every time I pray this has fixed it, didn't realise this was an issue thought my ps was just broke

Another cool feature after the update, playing God Of War and now the Dual Sense LED will go from yellow to red when opening vaults, based on how close on the breaking spot you are. Besides that, rumble in general is more smooth and realistic (water paddling for instance).

Oh nice!!! This always bothered me. Games like Metal Gear Solid actually have masterful rumble

I've noticed a bug when playing PS4 games with the DualSense (happened before this update as well) where sometimes after a while of playing every vibration will feel and sound like marbles lightly rattling inside the controller. If you turn the DS off and back on the rumble returns to the normal/stronger vibrations. It's pretty strange.
ID: gupl6d4Had the same happen twice for me when I played GoW. Very odd indeed.

I just got my ps5 recently, I was confused as to why the controller needed an update or that it could update at all.
ID: gupl63sControllers been updating since last gen
ID: guplermI've never been prompted too on ps4 before.

This is a pretty specific issue but one that really grinds my gears - there are a few games that I've played (although FIFA is the only one that comes to mind) where you can hear the motors in the adaptive triggers activate in certain moments. In FIFA the adaptive feature is used to reflect that a player has lost stamina and is finding it harder to run (the triggers are used to sprint) but hearing the motors spring into life every time a tired player receives the ball is so distracting!
Has this changed with the firmware update or is this an issue with the producers of the games rather than Sony?
ID: gupgy16It’s a mix of both. A firmware update might be able to alter how fast and loud those motors move, but in Fifa’s case, it’s definitely more on the the developer’s end. As someone who’s had the next gen Fifa 21 for a while now, I can say their aggressive approach to the Adaptive Triggers drove me mad lol. Adding resistance to the right trigger to represent stamina is a great idea for other sports games like Madden and NBA 2K, but in Fifa where you’re constantly switching between all 11 players, (all with different fatigue levels) a different approach was needed. I’m glad that they’ve weakened it over the last few months.
In most other games, you play as just one character, so this is hardly ever an issue.

And the controller doesn't make useless clicking noises when triggers aren't active now.
- 15 : Anonymous:2021/04/16 11:35 ID: gupo955
-
Also, when the controller dies while playing, it no longer wakes up with muted sound. As soon as you plug in and turn the controller back on, it will continue playing audio as it was. A small change, but a welcome one.

Yeah I think it was nerfed in BC titles before, now it was allowed to come closer to the full Dualsense vibration strength. I guess they were making sure games not designed for it wouldn't screw it up in any way.

Both of my controllers have drift issues. Even with the feedback and vibration turned off. Does anyone else have this issue?
ID: gupgr8gI've been lucky in this respect, I have over 500 hours on the controller without issue, although my fingers are cramping from always keeping them crossed.
ID: guphtomI’ve been lucky enough to end up with two controllers and no drift so far. Knowing my luck, I may have just jinxed myself.
I will say that from the videos I’ve watched about how stick drift works, I know that turning off Haptic Feedback & the triggers don’t have any affect on that. Stick drift is a separate problem that has to do with the laser in the analog stick. Be sure there’s no dust or debris in that part.

Anyone else still having theirs light up on the official charging dock?
Lights on mine were unlit since the update. I mean.. I think it is still charging and I've still had full bars the last few play sessions I've picked it up and played.. just yeah thought it was a bit weird and concerning that it wasn't a constant orange on it anymore during charge :S
ID: gupcxs3Same thing happened to me.
ID: gupd8skYes it still gets orange on the official dock as always just the first few seconds though

It really is more responsive. It’s such a weird thing not to mention. I had to mess around with a few games to make sure I wasn’t crazy.
