- PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita Will Continue Operations

Really glad to see this. Yelling at corporations does sometimes work.
ID: gv3yll9ID: gv3z0wtYes! This! I actually see people in this subreddit arguing AGAINST backwards compatibility like they had too many concussions or something, it’s ridiculous!
ID: gv49gwlUsername change? That took 10 years
ID: gv4h29bFor real lmao.
Uh just no. The only thing they care about is the bottom line. They probably saw the surge in PS3/Vita store sales and decided that they can still make money off of this. If there was no money to be made you can complain all day and Jim Ryan won't give a shit.
ID: gv46ijyMan, I would love some backwards gen compability. There's no way they can't get PS3 games emulated and able to read a disc like Xbox does. PS3 emulation is coming along nicely on PCs and they didn't even make the console. PS1 and PS2 games even more so since they are much simpler to emulate. If a basic shitty laptop can handle a PS2 game, the next gen Playstation console can manage
ID: gv49d6uWho wanna shout at Sony with me about not being able to delete (or hide from yourself) trophies!!?
ID: gv4lrx8Now we just need to yell at them for back compat and the CMOS battery issue.
-
I really want PS1 and PS2 full BC on PS5. I doubt Xenogears, Suikoden or Mega Man Legends will ever get a rerelease.
ID: gv3y3fuCAPCOM released multiple Mega Man collections. Legends is the only one left from the main timeline.
Give them time.
ID: gv4c4cmThey already made a legends collection for PSP, too. I hope they'll at least port that sometime.

Big W

They listened!
ID: gv48rmqThey heard us!!
-
Are you saying I spent my entire stimulus check on PS1 classics for nothing!?
ID: gv3si6lNo, many people buying many stuff made them change their decision.
ID: gv3uwv7Or maybe you spending that stimulus check is what made Jim Ryan reconsider, give yourself some credit.
ID: gv3xe56Sony played everyone by pretending to take down the store for that extra juice.
ID: gv4tizaWell, it worked! I bought Sly Cooper after thinking I’d never have the chance again.
-
Great to see they backtracked. I would love to see full backwards compatibility on PS5 now, even if PS3 emulation is difficult maybe they can make PS1/PS2 games available?
ID: gv477rsI wish the the library on PS5 would have a sorting option for PS2 games. Right now the PS2 games that were released on PS4 are listed as PS4 games. I want this changed.
ID: gv4haxsI doubt it. Something tells me the only reason why they rolled back this decision is because they don't want to fund a full backwards compatibility feature on the ps5.
ID: gv4okp4Expanding PS now catalog for ps3 would be enough for me. I just want to play dead space trilogy but for whatever reason sony added ds3 but not 1 and 2.
-
Oh wow, props to Sony for preserving their old library in some way or the other!
This pertains to PS3 and PS Vita only. PSP’s store is closing as planned in July (but nearly all PSP games are available to purchase on the PS Vita store right?)
I’m glad that Jim Ryan outright stated that they were wrong. And Sony is listening. What are the chances that this could be the first step towards multi-gen backwards compatibility on the PS5?
Time to hunt for a PS3 and a PS Vita now (wish I had my old PS3 still), and look for Policenauts in the PS3 Japanese PS Store.
-
Glad they're walking this back. It amplified the lack of BC and the limited number of streamable legacy titles on PsNow from their vast catalog. Also causing pricing of preowned legacy titles going way up in price. The 3 month store closure warning just seemed so damn aggressive
-
Jim playing 4d chess getting everyone to quickly buy stuff only to turn it around 2 weeks later hahaha
Great move by Sony tho!
ID: gv495htNext up get rid of CBOMB and Jim Ryan all of a sudden looks like a saint ha.
-
Good move, very good move!
-
The thing is, we would have been ok if they shut it down, so long as if they had a plan to get those games running natively on modern hardware
This backtrack shows that any sort of retro library for PS4/5 is not coming within this generation
ID: gv3p1yrOr maybe the backtrack means that they are gonna keep them alive long enough till they figure out PS1, PS2 (maybe PS3?) backwards compatibility for PS5.
ID: gv3su35Let’s hope.
ID: gv3sdowYou're being a bit too optimistic
-
The right move. The amount of money they would have saved would be nominal in the face of the goodwill that keeping the stores open has generated.
ID: gv3zoreNot really, it’s more so people threw enough money into the PS3 stores after these news came out so Sony decided to keep the stores open from this sudden influx of spending lol
-
RIP PSP!!! Some good news at least...
ID: gv3to83Sony's first all digital only console the PSP-GO is already essentially dead, and has been for awhile now.
Given the PSP-GO's old age, it is a nightmare trying to install a game on it nowadays. Primarily due to three things: 1) It is not compatible with Sony's 2 factor authentication system. 2) It's old wifi type 802.11b, which also does not support modern security types. 3) Even if you managed to get it on an old wifi router and disabled 2FA on your account, the Store on the PSP has not worked in years, and there was really no way to buy anything.
The lesson here is that given enough time (PSP-GO released Oct 2009), digital only consoles (ex:PSP-GO) can become stuck with whatever game library is currently installed on it. Whereas cart/disk based consoles (Regular PSP) can always find used games that can be purchased and added to their library.
(note: i am aware you can hack/mod a psp-go, the comments above assume keeping the hardware legit).
ID: gv4nc3zI’m one of those poor saps that bought the psp-go. I actually really do love the form factor of it. It’s essentially become a peace walke
cross machine for me. The wifi thing is super annoying I essentially need to bring it to work and hook it up to a test bench router we have to do anything on it. -
Wow, this is almost unbelievable. Can't believe they are keeping it up. Big props to sony.
-
They understand we wanna play old games. Now maybe if they'd just work on backwards compatibility...
-
Yeah this is a good thing, but it was pretty silly to try it in the first place. They'll also try it again at some point. Whether it's next year, or in 5 years, so I hope they figure out a way to preserve their games properly, because psNow ain't it (plus it's still not available in most regions.
-
They actually listened... what the fuck. Hey if your listening now, could you add more stock? Thanks. Much appreciated.
ID: gv3twayThe stock is not limited because they don't want to make more, they literally can't make any more. Maybe you've heard of this crazy thing called worldwide chip shortage and corona?
-
LOL the thousands of people that bitched about this better be buying and using these stores.
ID: gv3q7ijMost won't. Let's be honest.
ID: gv3vvd3They should make those games available on PS5 then I'd buy some.
ID: gv3yb6zI'd love that.
-
Now maybe we can stop with all the fucking doomsay posts.
ID: gv3pvh6Without them the stores would still be down
ID: gv3uwlfWtf are you talking about? Without the fanbase’s backlash this wouldn’t be getting reversed.
-
Good to see sony reversing a decision due to the backlash.

For real lmao.
The last time this happened, we got crossplay and username changes when Kodera was in power.
It works guys, keep pushing for that multi-gen backwards compatibility now!
