Oddworld: Soulstorm 1.08 Patch Now Available

I heard this game was very buggy so I held off. Is it more stable now?

I tried it 2 days ago and the tutorial has these consoles that you interact with to teach you the controls. I couldn't interact with the 3rd one and beyond =

I beat it two weeks ago. Only noticed one or two bugs through my entire playthrough. Really not even bad to begin with. It's undoubtedly stable enough to play.

Going to give it a try tonight

I'm at the ending boss fight and have not yet encountered a single major bug.

Excellent. I guess this has now got stable enough a good play through?

The performance wasn’t terrible to begin with. I completed the entire game and the only area with the most consistent drops was towards the end of the story.

Other than that, it’s just the checkpoint hitches and the very rare frame drop I noticed.

They were mainly referring to bugs, I think. Game had somewhat of a reputation for them. And I'd say yeah, the game is looking pretty stable now.

Abe-related bug fixes:

Considerable improvements to monkeybar edge detection

Sadly this game turned me off with some annoying bugs and I dont care enough to go back to it... Maybe someday

Not here to bash at this game, just genuinely curious. It’s not really a good game, is it?

Very weird for a new and free game to not get a lot of discussion around here.

I played the first 5 levels and dropped. I found its controls too tedious. Also the game does not want to decide whether it wants to focus on its old gameplay mechanics or the new. It commits to neither.

Same, I think I quit at the 4 level

It became too frustrating and I wasn't having fun

I've played through the first few levels and have been enjoying it but the last level I completed they just got repetitive and they took some of the platforming dynamics too far - it went from strategy/skill to dying a ton of times and luck to just get past that part. The difference between "Yay - I beat something" and "Yay - I'm past that miserable nonsense and never want to replay that part again...". I actually lost a few Mudokons toward the end of the level due to a poorly placed checkpoint but won't be trying the level over.

I couldn't like it. Tried it twice with a decent break in between. It just came across as same-y, and it's just obnoxious to play for me. At no point did I enjoy what I was doing.

I just chocked it up to me not liking this style of game. It's hard to make definitive claims about objective media. I read some favorable reviews, but yeah, did not like. Also there is a presence of artificial difficulty and that is, by far, my biggest pet peeve in gaming.

Tons of people won't play Indies and won't play side scrollers

It has a couple pretty good reviews, but mostly mixed. Seems to be worth a shot for folks who are even a bit intrigued now that the bugs are getting worked out.

I'm not quite done with it yet, but I love it. Might be my favorite Oddworld and I've played em all except for Stranger's Wrath.

Strangers Wrath was amazing when it came out and it holds up incredibly well. I recommend it if you like the vibe of Oddworld
