I’m absolutely stunned by how good 5700 XT actually is

1 : Anonymous2021/05/21 09:44 ID: nhom9u

I tried some brand new games this week, Days Gone and Biomutant. It's safe to say that I expected okayish performance but both games are running mostly 60 FPS, both on max settings, 1440p.

Yes, there are some drops here and there, but nonetheless, the performance is still much better than I expected.

I was thinking about upgrading earlier this year but with the situation as it is now and my 5700 XT still going strong, I'll probably wait a bit, before getting a brand new card.

2 : Anonymous2021/05/21 13:54 ID: gyxz2tc

5700 XT was really underrated I reckon. Sure it lacks RT but barely any games used it when it launched and Turing wasn't exactly a powerhouse at it like Ampere is. It also offered 2070S performance and could even match 2080 in some titles that were optimised for AMD, while only costing $350 USD if you waited for a deal. Great mid-high end card at the time and it's still decent today.

Yeah for real... I’m playing BFV right now 1440p @ 100+....so I’d say mine seems to be holding up pretty solid despite only being 2 fan and in a mITX case. Not gonna lie though, this MSI model gets LOUD.

I see a lot of people recommending selling the card for $1000+ and trying to get a 6700/6800 instead, but I’m more than content with this until I can snag a 3070ish card for closer to MSRP.

ID: gyzsxb0

You should try undervolting a bit. By default the card run a 1200mV, it is willingly to high to allow less silicon waste from factory. If your card is average you can probably run it around 1000-1100 mV. This will cost you like 1% performance drop but your fans will significantly get quieter.
Totally worth it imo, plus you can do this in no time in the amd software.

ID: gyzrq97

Specially after AMD patched the early driver problems. My 5700XT was quite unstable in the first 3 months, but after some driver and bios updates and a minor undervolt it now runs rock stable for 1,5 years. I think ill wait for the next gen cards, the current situation is just plain shite.

3 : Anonymous2021/05/21 11:27 ID: gyxjwt5

5700 XT is mostly a 1080p120 or 1440p60 for current-gen games. Expected performance really. It's also funny how it's just about twice of a RX 580, to the frame almost.

:sigh:, I need to clarify this.

When I say 1080p120 or 1440p60, I'm talking about games that are 1080p30 or less on base consoles, X1/PS4.

So Metro Exodus, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gears 5, Control, Assassin's Creed Odyssey/Valhalla

I'm not talking about Cod or Apex (which are 60 fps anyway) or about other games that run on toasters amazingly well.

Neither am I talking about exceptions like Doom Eternal or RE8 that are a technical marvel.

ID: gyyadrf

I disagree. I have a 5700 XT and play current games on ultra and bump up against the refresh rate of 100Hz on my 3440x1440 monitor. That is, if you consider PGA 2K21, Project Cars 2, F1 2020, Doom Eternal as current gen.

ID: gyyavgj

Sport games run on toasters.

F1 and Doom are exceptions, being ridiculously well optimized.

Project Cars 2? I think that's still 1080p120, but I'm not sure.

ID: gyyci12

Those games aren't demanding

ID: gyyn0t9

I'm running Apex at 250+fps on my 360hz monitor with my 5700XT - honestly it's been a brilliant card

ID: gyyqeip

I jumped up to a 6800 XT for my 3440x1440 monitor, mostly because I was in a position to do so, but the 5700 XT does start running into its limits at that resolution in certain games. It performs amazingly though for what it is, and it's a fantastic GPU through and through. That 5700 XT is now happily crushing everything a good friend of mine throws at it, since it'll crush damn near everything at 1080p lol.

Glad you're still enjoying yours mate!

4 : Anonymous2021/05/21 10:17 ID: gyxeqm2

With the situation as it is now, sell your GPU and get a 6800

ID: gyyvqaa

If I could buy a 6800 I would gladly sell my 5700xt lol

ID: gyzrg91

Or swap with a miner for current gen aMd card as the 5700xt is really good at mining

5 : Anonymous2021/05/21 13:38 ID: gyxx5j2

Yeah, would agree with others here. Sold my 5700xt and got a 6700xt nitro with the cash. Free performance in my eyes.

6 : Anonymous2021/05/21 14:13 ID: gyy1jd3

In what world is it a weak GPU, talking like a $450GPU from 2019 is some budget antiquity.

7 : Anonymous2021/05/21 10:33 ID: gyxftx5
Join a gpu live stock discord Choose live updates for a 6000 or 3000 series gpu (probably better chance with 6000 as the 3000 has better hash rates) Wait for a msrp drop (reference/FE models) or slightly above msrp ..... .... .... ..... .... If you made it this far: Sell your 5700xt for $1000+ on EBay Enjoy your $500+ profit
ID: gyxyeo3

Or let the miners do the work for you and trade your 5700 with one of them for a new in box 6700/6800.

ID: gyy2fv2

I think the 6800 and above skus are better at mining than the 5700, but the 6700xt for a 5700/xt might work out for you

ID: gyy2mn2

where/how do you go about doing this?

ID: gyy9ko0

6700xt only for a 5700xt.

Not that bad, but you can do better. I rolled my 5700xt into a 6800xt within 2 months, and profited to the point of being able to pay off the initial card and more

ID: gyy9f49

I did this from a 5700xt—>6800—>6800xt

Thank god for AMD direct and their MSRP prices.

8 : Anonymous2021/05/21 09:49 ID: gyxcyvq

How did you play Biomutant? The game isn't out until May 25, and I don't think there's a demo?

Feel free to ignore.

Can you play in a windowed mode, and drag the game window wider if you want to? I have a triple monitor setup and this is a crucial detail for me.

9 : Anonymous2021/05/21 13:23 ID: gyxvh4g

My buddy traded his 5700XT + 50 bucks for a 6700XT to a miner. The 5700XT hashes ETH faster than 6700XT so miners want the older model. My buddy essentially got a 30% performance boost for 50

ID: gyxx1y2

My buddy essentially got a 30% performance boost for 50

And in the current market. He got ripped off. To a miner, the 5700xt is worth more. Should have been at least an even trade.

10 : Anonymous2021/05/21 15:54 ID: gyyezn7

Hell yes. I've got the gigabyte 5700 xt 8gb OC paired with a ryzen 5 3600 running at 1400p/165mhz and it's so damn smooth running just about everything I play at max with 60+ fps. With the latest bios/drivers from AMD, resizable BAR is enabled, too!

I know cryptos want this card, I've seen all the "trade it in for an upgrade" posts, but this card and I have already logged in thousands of hours together, we family now. I couldn't let it go just to be used for hard manual labor like that.

11 : Anonymous2021/05/21 17:20 ID: gyyqm37

I have a 5700xt as well and I've only recently started playing 1440p (new monitor) and I love it. I am seeing if anyone wants it for crypto mining and trade me with a new gen but definitely agree with OP that this card does really well at 1440p and doesn't make me feel a need to upgrade

12 : Anonymous2021/05/21 15:21 ID: gyyajkn

Yeah dude, my red devil 5700xt is a beast, I'm not changing it for at least a few years

13 : Anonymous2021/05/21 14:06 ID: gyy0mhi

But, but, but, the rabid nvidia fanbois swear that all nvidia cards are so superior that even the lowest of their lowest can do 16K@120FPS!!

Glad that your GPU is working great for you!

ID: gyy9vy1

Lol bro where did the nvidia fanboys touch you lol Point to the doll

ID: gyyj1mj

lol

14 : Anonymous2021/05/21 10:45 ID: gyxgpl5

Yeap, people love to shit on it but for 1080/1440p gaming its an amazing beast.

Especially when you can clock it as high as 2,25/2,3GHz with MPT like I do.

And thats on air with my Nitro+ SE, if there wasnt a BIOS limit I think I could go higher on that chip ngl.

ID: gyy7vb4

Man, you're not doing 2.25/2.3 on air on a 5700 XT.

ID: gyy9d83

its actually pretty easy. got the asus rog version with 3 fans. it gets kinda loud but it works and the card is stable

ID: gz024eu

Seriously. My 5700xt was on water and it struggled past 2.1 and it was on a modded bios

ID: gyy92sh

which setting did you use in mtp?

15 : Anonymous2021/05/21 13:42 ID: gyxxnda

cross gen games.

16 : Anonymous2021/05/21 14:46 ID: gyy5vpb

How I wish I could get my hands on any 5700. Almost bought one in before the GPU issue. Ended up using the money to buy something else.

17 : Anonymous2021/05/21 17:28 ID: gyyrnn9

Biomutant you say? I thought it didn't come out until the 25th?

ID: gyzia17

They’ve been giving out some keys lately. LiRiK played it on stream today.

18 : Anonymous2021/05/21 17:36 ID: gyyspm3

What about the driver issues. I own rx 5700 xt too and dont get me started on the black screens with freesync.

ID: gyz5tl3

issues

Last issues I had with mine, were in the beginning of Jan. 2020.
Check if your other hardware is causing the probs, if that's not the case, RMA your card asap.

19 : Anonymous2021/05/21 18:13 ID: gyyxpwk

Glad i bought one shortly after release(~1.6 years ago). Been happy with it since day one; good performance and have had no problems with the card. But, I'm especially glad i have no reason to buy a gpu in the current market. (Trying and failing to obtain a 5900x in the current market has been annoying enough)

Tho for an instant i did get tempted to buy a 6800xt, just didn't need it at all, and really want to wait for cards to become much faster at ray tracing before buying one for that reason.

I've got no problem keeping this card for another 2 years. Hopefully by then the market has gotten back to normal(tho i have no illusion that prices will ever go back the way they were, but hopefully they pull back from the current insanity).

If the 5nm cards bring another 50% improvement, and prices and supply go back to normal, ill probably buy one. If not....I'm good for awhile!

20 : Anonymous2021/05/21 18:29 ID: gyyzrpm

I've been very impressed with mine.

I've got an Odyssey G9 and have been amazed that I can run Red Dead II at 5120x1440 on medium to high settings and get 45-60 fps most of the time.

21 : Anonymous2021/05/21 18:46 ID: gyz227m

I've thoroughly enjoyed my reference 5700XT. I'm only 1080p, but it plays MW and CP2077 smooth as butter.

In a few years when cards aren't unobtainium any longer, I might look into upgrading. For the foreseeable future, I think I did alright.

22 : Anonymous2021/05/21 19:15 ID: gyz5rcv

Been rocking the Sapphire Nitro 5700XT since its release and it's a great card for 1440p gaming. As you said every now and then it has some drops but still fantastic card!!

23 : Anonymous2021/05/21 19:20 ID: gyz6d60

I guess reports of driver issues turned off many potential buyers
