- BioShock 4 seemingly using the next-gen Unreal Engine 5
-
Bioshock looked awesome when it originally came out I can't wait to see a new game.
ID: gzwkkux -
well considering we won't see this game for five years it'd be pretty dumb for them to be using Unreal 4.
ID: gzu5kpjUE5 is just UE4 with experimental plug-ins and improvements to what was already there.
Most AAA/+ studios change the engine source code to create a new engine derived from the engine they modified that is more tailored to the specific game they are making. So the likelihood of vanilla UE4 or UE5 being used by any AAA/+ studio is not high IMO.
Using experimental features present in UE5 like Lumen, Nanite etc. is optional when using UE5.
They could patch in updates brought to UE5 into UE4 themselves with the source code to take advantage of new things without updating fully to UE5 if they wanted to. Or just changes that improves features they already use in UE4 and ignore anything they don't care for. That'd work too, alongside making their own adjustments.
ID: gzw6119In so many ways just no. UE5 is not just nanite and lumen, and it's can't be patched into UE4. You can transfer UE4 games into UE5 with some work, but it is no where near as simple as you make it out to be.

Bioshock will always be one of my all time favorite games I’ve ever played. I just completely delved into the world of rapture in 2007.
ID: gzu8lyeSame. It’s just soaked in incredible atmosphere.
ID: gzvy4xnHell yeah brother
ID: gzwcr25Cheers from Rapture!
ID: gzw7at0Same, I really like the whole series. Bioshock infinite’s story was incredible though.
ID: gzwdhbe“There is always a lighthouse, there’s always a man, there’s always a city”

Oh look what time it is... time to replay the trilogy again!
ID: gztcfr6Would you kindly replay the trilogy.
ID: gzvjfq0Woah now. A man chooses if he'd like to replay the trilogy. A slave obeys....
ID: gzuq935If you’re going to replay the first game, I can highly recommend reading the book ‘Rapture’ by John Shirley beforehand. For me, it greatly enhanced the game to replay it like this. It was already a great game, but you really get an intimate knowledge of the whole of Rapture in the book. It’s not a masterpiece of a novel by any means, but it’s not bad, and the combined experience with replaying the game is sooo good.
ID: gzuz0fkIf you have the time read any work of ayn rand about objectivism. Bioshock is a heavy handed critique to objectivism and personally watching anything shit over ayn rand is always satisfying
ID: gzvnkalI'm now downloading it as I type. Played the 1st one years ago but didn't get too far into it. I have the collection, so I guess I'll jump back in.

ID: gztord6Who is angry? Lol all of the replies to your comment are completely civil then you make that edit out of nowhere
ID: gztk5ifI found the gameplay of 2 fun! it felt oddly different than 1 but still enjoyable. The story i understand why people disliked it. It was just a personal story rather than being about the city and it's miseries. But because of the plot and how it goes it was my least favorite but definitely worth the replay in my book!

With how popular UE4 was it wouldn't shock me if 70+% of new games are using UE5 by 2022/2023.
Which is fine by me that is one amazing engine and alot of studios will be doing special things with it
ID: gzt5uunIt's pretty obvious news, but man, just imagining what a Bioshock game could look like based on the UE5 demo...
I'm getting this uncontrollable feeling of excitement right now, serious vibes.
ID: gztgai0Well I can tell you there is no chance of 70% of games being made on one engine.
13% of games are made in unreal. For 70% of games to be made in unreal there would have to be a massive market upset that would give epic a near monopoly, which would not be good for anybody.
ID: gzu2jyyYeah I feel like UE4 didn't have as big of an impact as UE3, maybe it was just the games I played, but the number of AAA games on UE seems to have been less than the generation before it.
ID: gzvlzuwI think they mean 70% of games made with UE will be using 5 soon
ID: gzulnbyI don’t think 70% of AAA games… but yes, near 70% of AA and Indie games.
ID: gzv5bluNah, Unity is too popular for that. Unreal is more used by bigger devs and Unity is more popular with smaller ones. None of the crazy graphics optimization features are going to matter for an indie going for a stylized look
-
Makes sense. Until UE5 is released, while in like a late alpha/beta stage, they'd probably want to partner with a handful of studios that are early in development (to not risk breaking anything they've already built) to work with them closely. Be there to be direct software support for bugs to iron out issues for full release, as well as direct feedback on tools, UIs and such

I didn't even know Bioshock 4 was a thing. I hope it's more like 1-2 than Infinite... The first one is sick.
ID: gzts2vfI feel like it’s unpopular opinion around here but infinite was my favorite
ID: gztujvzI agree completely
ID: gzujr1kI liked it but I really wished I could go through some areas without having to shoot my way though them. It felt like the main reason to fight everywhere was to lengthen the game. I just wanted to take in the beautiful scenery for once.
ID: gzva3dsFor me, Infinite was awesome. And Bioshock 2 terrible. But I feel people that love 2 and hate I finite are the ones that played it for the aesthetics and combat and not for the story and satire (Which is perfectly valid, I am not judging)
Bioshock 1 was an amazing story that both put into question game design and made fun of Ayn Rand.
Bioshock 2 (not made by Ken Levine) was just a cashgrab
Bioshock Infinite had arguably one of the best stories I've ever seen in a game. And I still don't understand how is not a movie/series project right now.
ID: gztml8jThe franchise needs more big daddies
ID: gzu6tcsThat's what I need too
ID: gzv7ih8You mean big momma milkers
ID: gztwa74Agreed. Infinite lost all the charm and seemed like a hallway shooter.
ID: gzu3pnrAre you kidding me? Infinite is the best one, and that says a lot considering how good the first two games are.
-
Without Ken Levine I expect this game to be shit anyways though
ID: gzv97wkBioShock 2 was good without him. Not as good as 1 but not a bad game whatsoever.
ID: gzvae3nBioshock 2 was terrible. The story was laughable and it had the absolutely terrible Microsoft Game whatever that made it unplayable when released.
-
I have a question, can devs transfer or upgrade a game that was originally made in UE4 to UE5? If yes then, will it make a difference?
ID: gzuzc6kYou can transfer a project but it is really risky so they suggest backups
-
Honestly excited, I remember originally playing the first game and at the time it wasn’t my thing but I remember everyone’s excitement around it. It wasn’t until Infinite until I gave the first a proper try again and got into the series. Infinite was still my favourite though!
-
Is this really being made? Feel like I’ve heard about this sequel for years and no new developments were made or shown to the public.
-
I am not sure I'm interested in a Bioshock game not written by Ken Levine. Bioshock 2 was awful co.pared with the master storytelling of Buoshock 1 amd Infinite.
ID: gzvwvj6I couldn't agree more
-
Im cautiously excited for the game, I'm just worried that 2K will turn it into a microtransaction infested abomination
-
Very nice will it be Next Gen only?
-
One of the best series ever made.

I know right, the graphics of the first bioshock holds up shockingly well even today, because of its art direction and themes.
