- AMD AM5 motherboards to arrive in Q2 2022, Raptor's Lake Z790 series in Q3 2022 - VideoCardz.com

That is the generation when we can experience a nice combo Ryzen 9 6900X + Radeon RX 6900 XT
ID: h1yp4hiID: h1z6vbeThey might, but there's also a 5600XT and a 5600X out there already.
ID: h1zg07gNah I think GPUs will be 7x00, aligns nicely with Ryzen 7x00.
ID: h200iopCurrent speculation is that first AM5 chips will be Ryzen 6xxx series based on Zen3+.
ID: h1zuq6wI'm more of skipping the number 7 and goes for 8xxx.
ID: h1zq4cuI doubt it

Intel Z790?
No "Nice'...?
D:
ID: h1ydsjbAlder Lake is supposed to be end of this year, so I guess Z690 then. Q3 2022 is probably the next revision.

Do we know what the word on the street is for DDR5 in AMD chips? I can’t imagine AM5 launching without it, but ddr5 still seems like it’s coming in low volume. I’m not moving off b350 until then..
ID: h1yvmokKnow what I would have liked better than ddr5? quad channel ddr4, as it likely would be cheaper for several years, provide similar throughput, and improve flexibility. Imagine still having four memory slots, but each it's own channel. Want to improve throughput? You could use four lower cost smaller sticks that aren't on the bleeding edge.
ID: h1z3vsvMotherboard costs increase a bit with quad channel and needing more PCB layers and traces.
ID: h2048l8Doesn't Threadripper support quad channel? Could always go that route. Specially if your workload benefits heavily from the increased bandwidth.
ID: h1z3k4xLol I get downvoted for asking a question. Reddit never fails to surprise me.
I’d like to use the DDR4 sticks I have and have the option to move to DDR5 if it’s clearly better.
ID: h1yyf9eZen 4 and Rembrandt are supposed to be the first DDR5 AMD CPU's.
Rembrandt is a Zen 3+/RDNA2 APU and if this leak is true, would very likely be the first AMD product(s) to get DDR5 on the new AM5 platform.
ID: h1z6fwsThanks for this!
ID: h1zs3mtSpoiler: Everything now is “low volume”
ID: h1zs7kiYou’re not wrong

Am4 lives one for another generation

zen3x 3DV stacking upgrade + cores "nice" 🙂

All these 5600x sales have been tempting but can hold out until mid 2022. 3100 don’t fail me now!

~6 months between Zen3+ (Zen3 with 3D stacked cache) and Zen4 launch?
Seems like a weird launch cadence.
Perhaps they plan to continue making Zen3/3+ for a while, particularly since it's a separate node. Could indicate they plan to put up prices again with Zen4, and/or only offer 8+ cores at the start.
ID: h1z3ni1With DDR5 potentially being expensive or in short supply, it's probably a good idea to give people an AM4 upgrade path.
Remember, AMD makes money on CPUs, not so much motherboards.

Which is something that Intel does, right? Intel never really supports a socket for more than 1 or 2 generations if I'm not mistaken.
ID: h1zgiseAMD will probably offer people both Zen 3(+) and Zen 4 Desktop. DDR5 and all isn't cheap. A Zen 3(+) in late 2022 could be very cheap to build around relatively cheap with a mid-range 5nm GPU and give you way better price and performance right now, especially if next-gen GPUs give you the rumored performance they could give you (better than 6900XT & 3090 performance).

Q2 for samples..... Q4 is more realistic

I'm guessing, don't quote me on this, that they will skip a gen for each so the next processors will be the 7x00 series and the next GPUs will be the 8x00 series. I would imagine it would clear up some of the confusion.
