Quick question. When is the new ryzen line expected to release? Buy 5900x around black friday or wait?

I have a i5-6600 (4c, 4t) coupled with a rtx 3070 (Yes I know, couldn't upgrade both parts at same time. So I was thinking of buying a 5900x. But I heard new ryzens were coming. How late are they expected to be. Should I wait?

I had your same cpu for a long time and it’s pretty slow by modern standards. If you are just gaming, I would upgrade to a 5600x. I went 6600k to 3700x to 5600x and each upgrade was very noticeable for gaming. Obviously waiting for the AM5 socket for the next gen is appealing, but most likely the first generation of those motherboards will not be great.

I would upgrade to a 5600x now and then wait until like 2023 for the second generation of AM5 motherboards with DDR5. Then I’d resell everything and upgrade to AM5. It’s all subjective though and there’s no right way to upgrade. But your 6600 is really bad for modern games, if that’s what you’re targeting (mentioning your use cases in your OP would help people give more specific feedback).

I want to atleast upgrade to 8 core so that I can game and don't have to worry about having programs or other tasks in the background. But then 5900x is just 100$ more for 4 cores. Spending 100$ more over the course of using the cpu for several years and having 4 more cores is a no brainer for me since I have the money.

The 5900X is $250 more than a 5600X, or do you mean it's $100 more than the 5800X?

In either case, keep in mind that the 5600X is 12 thread, 3X as many as the 6600K, not to mention the other improvements in core speed, etc. that come with Ryzen 5000 compared to Intel 6000 series. That CPU is nearly 6 years old now. Unless you're running a glut of background programs while gaming a 5600X is going to be just fine. I managed to stretch my old i5-4460 until January (though it was showing it's age last year), and it wasn't exactly the 5600X equivalent in its day. That would have probably been more like a 4670K or 4690K.

Sure, you could spend $250 more for twice the number of cores as a 5600X, but if your tasks only require the 6C/12T that a 5600X offers then you're not going to notice.

The 5600X's 6C 12T is more than enough for high end games and streaming simultaneously. No harm in more cores though

Rumored announcement is early 2022 with availability maybe spring 2022. But that was a while ago and a ton has changed since then so I wouldn't be surprised if thats way delayed, and those were just speculation.

New Ryzen CPUs are often announced a while before they are actually for sale.

Seeing as we don't have the non x variants, any threadrippers, or ryzen 3s for this gen, I don't think next gen will be launching until late 2022 at best. The APU variants of the 5800x and 5600x are supposed to launch in august, along with rumors of threadripper.

rolpwntnoob has an interesting point about availability of differing products. As the Ryzen chips are doing so well AMD is not motivated to release a new product since the gap between Intel is pronounced.

I would speculate that AMD will focus more energy on the laptop market CPU & GPU along with the the ThreadRipper line and delay the Ryzen update.

AMD chips are 6nm and Intel is currently producing 11nm. This disparity show the gap in production capabilities. Also, Intel is dominant in the laptop and generic PC markets. I question whether a strategy of targeting high end users is financially sound for Intel. Volume sales may now be Intel's emphasis.

Ultimately, if Intel does not remain competitive on the higher end processor AMD might be in a position to take it's foot off the gas pedal which means we as enthusiasts will see a decline in improvements in technology and performance in the future.

Just get a Ryzen 3600. Bad time to be buying a new platform

Further explain? Why would I ever get a 3600, instead of a 5600.

ID: h534nxa

Because the 3600 is much cheaper and the performance difference isn't that much dependant on your screen resolution

By the end of the year AMD said I think. I think before Christmas. At least I'd guess.

For the vcache stuff, they just said going into production at the end of the year, which probably means q1 2022 at the earliest.

If they are just doing a refresh of products, they could do it at any time. If they are spinning a zen3+ with arch changes, i wouldnt expect it before the end of the year. But the vcache stuff wont be this year.

vcache is the refresh
