ID: h5xauo4I could actually hear that in my head I've seen that movie so often.
ID: h5xax8dMe too, great film.

Hmm I'd expect a horror survival with some social comentary game from him, definitely not a multiplayer shooter....
ID: h5wmha8He's got a good eye for visual design, so I don't think this is an awful fit, but it is a crowded market.
ID: h5wshc1Yeah but i think it will be a good experience for him moving forward.

Dude, just make the District 9 sequel already!
ID: h5vxwyrI’ve been losing faith that he can make a respectable follow up, as D9 had a pretty solid ending and his work since then has seemed promising but ended up fairly forgettable (imo, of course). I really wanted to like Elysium and Chappie, and have seen both and mostly enjoyed them (holy crap Ninja can’t act, Yolandi was surprisingly decent though), but don’t have any real drive to rewatch either
ID: h5w2hmvIdk, I enjoyed Elysium for what it was. Admittedly, I go a little easier on scifi flicks when I think a concept is cool.
ID: h5w11qbMy wife and I both loved Chappie. It was creative and fun.
ID: h5vyza3I know what you mean. Nothing since has equalled District 9. Chappie was definitely better than Elysium, but it definitely had its faults. I rather hoped though when the prawn said he’d be back in 3 years, we’d actually get the sequel 3 years later. Still waiting…..
ID: h5wg99kYou should check out the Oats Studio Vol 1. It’s a bunch of short films he has either written/directed/produced. Some good stuff there
ID: h5wurisI think he really just needs a good script. Which is why it was so frustrating that he ended up not making Aliens 5 (which was going to bring back Hicks and Newt with Michael Biehn attached, and essentially retcon Alien3). You gotta think the people that treated David Fincher so badly on Alien3 and had him working on a film without a script that had been written and re-written and they pulled him on expecting to just be able to push him around because he was just a music video director… now that he’s David fucking Fincher, I wonder if they regret their choices and wish they’d have just let him make the Alien3 that he wanted to make.
Anyway, Blomkamp was also attached to make Robocop Returns, which would have also been a great fit. And a Halo movie as well. Any of those 3 big properties with a competent script would have been great vehicles for him, and it’s a shame that none of them came to be. I watch his short films on YouTube periodically (check them out at Oats Studios). He’s able to do a lot with a smaller budget, especially due to his familiarity with vfx. But I think Chappie and Elysium hurt his trajectory in Hollywood and he hasn’t had a film in the following 5 or 6 years since Chappie. What a shame.
ID: h5w5zdnHe is. He also announced the District 10 sequel script is nearing completion.
ID: h5x3ieoSauce? I heard this like 10 years ago

It sure makes sense to move into that crowded market.
ID: h5vyg34Who is even doing this well now? There's plenty of room for a good one.
ID: h5x2iyzBattle Royales are dominating the space. Apex, Warzone and Fortnite.
ID: h5w0vtuCod, siege, csgo and BF2042 on the horizon. Who else? (maybe pubg but that's mostly PC)
ID: h5w10amPUBG AAA multiplayer shooter? hahaha
ID: h5wf1ujDoes Apex count? Overwatch? Halo about to drop any time this century.
ID: h5w2jhvI mean that's 4 games, including one that isn't even out yet. Doesn't feel that crowded.
ID: h5wah5mxDefiant was announced yesterday.

IMA BE PRAWN MEDIC AND I DONT CARE
-
I feel like this is either gonna be really good or really bad no in-between
ID: h5w5unpim guessing it will be taken to like 75-80 percent completion and the released test footage and gameplay will look fucking bonkers real, super compelling and intensely engaging but ultimately the result will be mixed because it was greatly hampered by perfectionism and we will pine over the potential the concept could've been taken too had it actually been finished properly.
my perception of blomkamp is that he has incredible concepts and a really strong start but a weak finish where his interest wanes and he moves onto a new idea. he's good at characters and settings but really quite weak on plot. i really love his work but it always feels raw in an unfinished way, i just wish it would get developed fully.

Chappie hero shooter incoming.
ID: h5vocy5Honestly a chappie game would be bad ass
-
Better not be a chappie game…
-
As much as I'd love this to be good, with the state of online games becoming money grabs left right and center, this going to be kak. Neil please be lekker and prove me wrong.

Honestly, District 9 is structured like a game already and probably should have been a game to begin with. It's literally about a guy who gets infected with a mysterious disease that he is (obviously) compelled to cure but at the same time the disease grants him the ability to use these increasingly-dope-as-fuck alien weapons. Throughout the entire movie Wilkus comes across more and more powerful alien weapons and it is amazing. If you haven't watched it in awhile I highly recommend a rewatch and pay attention to just how videogamey the entire thing is. It will honestly disappoint you that this world was wasted on a (most likely) one-off movie.

District 9 Sequel. Please!
-
Fuck yeah let's shoot some prawns.
-
You had me at AAA and then lost me immediately at multiplayer
ID: h5xb0mrAnd to make it even better? It's free to play!
-
Multiplayer
..sigh...
-
RESISTANCE PLEASSSSEEEEE
-
District 10: Revenge of the Prawns
-
I don't like this, I don't like him working on anything that its not a sequel of district 9, I need that movie
-
Don't we have enough multiplayer shooters ugh. Just make another district 9 movie or a single player game that looks as good as district 9.
-
Ah, was excited until I saw 'Multiplayer shooter'.
They can be fun for sure, but the market is already beyond saturated.
ID: h5w0y2qIt’s not saturated in good games that’s for sure.
-
This should be interesting. He has good taste in Sci-F, Would love to see what he's been thinking of the last decade.
ID: h5wa3n7Considering his track record of projects he started and then abandoned, i'd be very surprised if this game actually gets released.
-
Half Life 3 confirmed
ID: h5w1knzgod dammit. Now I'm bitter, all over again.
😀 At least we had Marc Laidlaw's "Epistle 3" letter giving us an idea of what had been planned. Some closure is better than none? glass half-full?
