Apple Introduces New High-End Graphics Options for Mac Pro (W6800X/W6900X)

Think MGrayson3 deserves a callout for their comment

Have we checked all the boxes? Apple pricing too high.

Isn’t this the same as card X?

No one needs these cards.

Useless because not NVIDIA.

I can build X for $Y. Hur hur.

Can it play <silly game>?

Patient and knowledgeable responses to the above.

This post making this observation.

What are we missing?

What are we missing?

Comparing it to Trump somehow or blaming Obama

Thanks Obama.

Am I wrong that this is absolutely mindboggling?! 120 cu's??!!!!

ID: h7kji4p

It's 2 different gpu connected through infinity fabric link, kinda like crossfire but it's dual socket on same pcb. You can even add another duo module and it goes up to 240cu. It's normal for workstation systems to have 4 dgpu

ID: h7k9t70

It's dual Navi 21 XL (aka 6800) hence 2x 60 CUs.

ID: h7l8n8v

clearly not the first time

hd 4870X2, hd 5970, hd 6990, hd 7990, hd 8990, r9 295X2, radeon pro duo (serie 300)

then they stopped (rx 480 was the biggest serie 400)

but rumors are out about rx 7900 xt or so which would be dual gpu again

ID: h7m3b1o

The older card was 128 CUs.

interesting how 64GB W6800 Duo costs less than 32GB W6900.

5 : Anonymous2021/08/03 19:19 ID: h7l66o9

Emmm, kinda disappointed that there's no w6900x duo, lol. Imagine 160 CU on a single card.

6 : Anonymous2021/08/03 15:38 ID: h7kaal1

Looks like dual 6900s on a single card is too much power for the Mac Pro's PCIe power thing.

ID: h7l6ev6

The MPX power connector supports up to 500 Watt. Could be there aren’t enough fully enabled Navi 21 dies to pass around though.

Insert attempt to start flame war.

It’s a workstation card bro, do you have any idea what people way for these type of cards?

I don’t see what Nvidia has to do with anything here.

ID: h7kjzzp

Attempts to start flame wars aside, Nvidia workstation GPUs on Mac OS means Nvidia drivers in some form that can be exploited by hackintosh devs/users. Currently the latest supported Nvidia GPUs are 10 series on MacOS 10.15.

Have you seen how often legit comments about AMD gpus gets downvoted in here?

You want to see a nice barrage of downvotes? just say that you prefer FSR because its an open standard, instead of a lock-in tech like DLSS.

Anyways, if you havent see than in this sub, then congrats.

Its a workstation card at workstation prices. It's game angles that get the most attention round here.

It's a 1M sub, if you're going to use guerrilla marketing with sock puppets and fake accounts, it stands to reason it would be here, not in the NVIDIA sub which is so blatantly an arm of NVIDIA marketing that posts are frequently censored like when people ask where is the DLSS SS AA that was promised ages ago which is perfectly legitimate to ask as a customer who acquired a fucking expensive GPU.

ID: h7kcynz

Sadly, I have the bad luck of bumping into all of those fake accounts.

Every post I make gets downvoted because I personally dont like nvidia tactics so I prefer to give my money to AMD, but expressing that in here is not allowed.

Same as expressing the fact that the sub is overrun with those people/bots whatever.

I see this from your other posts:

"3090, it will give you more flexibility at work, retain value better (flagship) and with a bit of effort (and patience) you can find it below 1800€. Idealo, Geizahls and the like are your friends. Also check Rue do Commerce Komplett every now and then they have some relatively OK promos.

edit: for some reason I assumed you start your PhD in Germany which is relatively well paid so you can afford the price for leisure/work utensils. If you're not well paid, scratch all I said and try to get your uni to pay for you. Whatever you decide, the 3080Ti is a poor choice. "

Yeap, that explains, so again, thanks for poisoning this sub.

OK but when are they going to have a threadripper version?

9 : Anonymous2021/08/03 17:02 ID: h7kme6k

this totally destroy what Intel XE has right now

ID: h7ko0uk

Xe didnt even properly launch yet, DG1 is just a mobile igpu. Real competition would be Nvidia of course, except Apple gave them the middle finger after the solder issues in MBPs with Kepler cards
