- My face when I see yet another tier list with Zero near the bottom
-
I want to replay RE0 by using the Wesker skin for Billy.
I know he's got that RE5 dash.
Does that change/break the game?
ID: hd6uvngID: hd6x9mnOoh. Welp, gotta try that.
ID: hd7ikccI never knew he could craft healing items lol
ID: hd8jbayIm sorry what? Did you just give me a reason to replay Zer0?
ID: hd7aodaAlso the Team Wesker outfit for Rebecca is well good.
-
Zero doesn't deserve the hate it gets at all. Although it does need item boxes.
ID: hd6t8ugI agree the hate is overblown as lots of the games content is good to great.
But the item box thing shouldn't be downplayed. The way item management works in the game has a huge detrimental impact on the experience.
It's one of the most tedious and poorly implemented inventory management systems I've ever seen.
ID: hd7sr3tI know so many people who have never played 0 but have adopted the mindset to just skip it and never play it over the fact that they feel like it has a bad reputation.
ID: hd74v23I could live with no item boxes if they didnt use two slot weapons. That just took the piss and one of the reasons why i never replay the game anymore.
ID: hd6u381I think were it to be re-released with item boxes it'd be among the greats, content wise it's great!
ID: hd94otqThat game deserves a fucking overhaul, in the style of RE2 remake
ID: hd7397sWhat are you saying you got two walking item boxes in the flesh.
ID: hd6vax2I mean probably an unpopular opinion but I prefer being able to drop my stuff on the floor then to go all the way to the item box just to put it away
ID: hd72e4oI would like to have both
ID: hd753y6people mention the absence of item boxes as a big failing of zero and i totally agree but, even with their inclusion, the game has some of the worst bosses (uninspired, easy to cheat) in the franchise and those monkey enemies are enough to make you want to put the game down for good
i love the atmosphere and the dynamic between billy and rebecca but item boxes wouldn't make the game good
ID: hd7axheEspecially the Bat Boss.
Fuck that POS!
ID: hd7ffajI mostly agree about the bosses, unfortunately. Scorpion, Centipede, and Bat are god awful and on at least centipede and bat you're forced to use only one character which defeats the whole point of the game. Rebecca's proto tyrant fight is pretty good. The queen leech fights are also good imo because you have both characters and you can actually do some interesting strats. I think mimicry marcus is even dumber than the monkeys though. And it wouldn't be, if molotovs were actually worth a god damn. But they're terrible!
ID: hd7fbnnyea the item boxes are the least of it's issues. unrelated but i believe it could work very well as a modern day remake with online coop
ID: hd7l6alIt does deserve pleeenty of criticism.
Every boss is just a big animal.
Not much story, what’s there can be bonkers.
Eliminators.
Hookshot BS
No item box
-
I blame those freaking zombie monkeys, they suck.
ID: hd76yi5Those monkeys are called Eliminators, it's much cooler when you call them Eliminators... 🙂
ID: hd75670Swipe, swipe and I’m DEAD
-
Zero is nowhere near the worst game
-
I really dig the visual style of RE1make and 0, if only they made the item drop feature better I would have no real issues with it (besides the ridiculous opera slug man). At least they were trying something different while sticking with the fixed frame
ID: hd7rdmhYes. The atmosphere of these two games is ridiculous. The enemy's alone aren't that scary but that mansion of re1 is so fucking creepy. Also when you take away the puzzles and other game mechanics, re1 could be an actual thing that is happening in China or USA where they do experiments on animal or shit like that.
-
Zero is dope as fuck. Take it from me cuz I have played RE games the longest and have the best opinions.
-
Zero and REmake feel like the same game, and I dig it for that. Unfortunately, the item system was an innovation exercise. Just sucks it's unique to that game.
-
Zero was a really fun game. Just kinda frustrating with the inventory
-
Only compliant even to this day I have on 0 Is the no Item boxes. Other than that It's an awesome "classic" resident evil and in my opinion the last good classic style RE
-
I was really just looking for any excuse to post this gif, and there happened to be a tier list post near the top of the sub.
I hope you enjoy rebecca's sarcastic thumbs-up as much as I do and that you find ways to use it in the future 🙂
EDIT: For this beautiful but brief moment in time, the top post on the sub is just a funny gif of Rebecca. That is a victory.
-
God she was cute in that movie. I love short haired brunettes
-
THANK YOU!!!
Zero is one of my fav games in the series. It completely walks all over the later games. But I'm a purist so I'm going to have bias as I much much prefer tank controls and fixed camera angles as this is RE too me. So it's always going to rank highly on my list.
-
Zero has its problems, but I'll always have a tremendous amount of nostalgia for it since it was the last of the fixed camera, prerendered-background RE's. I think if I had known that was true at the time I'd have appreciated it even more.
-
I'm busy going through zero now (my first play through) and I'm enjoying it. It's hard and the items management is a mess, but the 2 characters playing at the same time is interesting and I enjoy the feature.
-
Is Zero really that bad? Its one of the few Resident Evil games that I haven't played. It looks fine like RE remake.
ID: hd7lvnmREmake is far, far better. The pinnacle of it’s type.
ID: hd8e6t4It is a really annoying game if you do the "wrong" thing, and there's no way to know if you're doing the wrong thing on a first playthrough - people who've finished it will probably get what I'm talking about. Imo if you're going to play it you should get someone to give you some tips, even though it'll mean spoiling some things.
-
I’m just surprised someone hasn’t made a mod that adds item boxes
-
RE0 moment to moment gameplay is fine, and it has a lot of good going for it. The two character system was unique and fun and prompted Capcom to really notch up the difficulty, which was good.
The atmosphere and rendering of some of the areas is so great, it ranks among the best of the series. The train in particular is iconic RE, and instantly convincing as a tense, isolated environment.
The lack of item box was an interesting experiment, but too polarizing to be considered a straight success or to elevate this game to the level of masterpiece.
The bottom line is that, while they may have designed item management in this game in such a way as to be even more satisfying to veteran players who could wrap their head around it, the system was simply too obtuse to be fun for a much larger number of players. This makes it extremely polarizing.
When 70% of your players are forced to backtrack across huge swathes of environment because they dropped an item they didn’t know they would need and this happens multiple times on a first playthrough, it’s fair to say the system wasn’t intuitive enough. I’m all for challenge, but challenge should make the experience more fun, not more tedious.
Anyways, there’s also just plenty of really bad in this game. The enemy variety is among the worst in the series, but especially among the fixed camera RE games. The bosses range from ridiculous to frustrating, with really none being memorable for being fun.
The characters are definitely a product of their time, but I think they’re even worse than your standard RE fare, as the game never gives any real plot justification for these two characters specifically going through this. They wanted to cram Rebecca in here, and give her a partner, but the story never really bothers to integrate this.
The story, in fact, is the worst mainline RE story for my money. It’s just nonsense, it never really has a point to it, the protagonists never really directly confront the antagonists, the story integrates extremely poorly with the rest of the series (Rebecca being helpless in RE1 and Billy just never coming back is ridiculous), and there’s no real reason for, like, half of the environments that are in the game to actually be there.
It’s funny, I played through RE0 again just within the past year, and have played it multiple times now, and still can’t recall really any major plot beats off the top of my head.
Stuff just happens and nothing really matters and it’s all just to push us through these environments. It’s the poorest integration of story into gameplay in the entire series and I find that unforgivable.
Anyways, yeah, I don’t think RE0 necessarily deserves all the hate it gets. Its good parts are quite excellent, and from a gameplay perspective it is mostly tightly crafted if you know what you’re doing.
But there are so many stumbles, I can’t help but agree it goes towards the bottom of the list for me, too. What I really do want is a RE0 remake where Capcom stays totally faithful to the environments and most of the puzzles, but really puts the work in on making the story work, making some of the stupider enemies/bosses work, and making the partne
item box system more intuitive.I do think RE0 could be redeemed, as I do think the classic version lays a very solid foundation. It just fails to execute well on multiple levels.
-
RE Zero is better than 5 and FAR better than 6.
-
Zero loses momentum at the bat fight, Billy and Rebecca are split up for way too long.
ID: hd7k7u7I like your username lol.
-
I mean it’s Rebecca’s time to shine and she’s best girl so it sort of automatically makes it the best
-
Maybe i should make my own tier list, zero won't be at the bottom
-
I have nostalgia towards Zero as it was one of the first RE games I played back on the GameCube. When the HD remaster came out I bought it in a heartbeat.
After going through it several times, I’ll give it credit for its soundtrack and atmosphere. But I can definitely understand why it’s rated so low. After the train section, the game feels incredibly bland maybe up until the cathedral. The item system wouldn’t be such a sin if it weren’t for the fact of that freaking HOOKSHOT requiring use in the very beginning of the game and then suddenly needing it again towards the latter half (Code Veronica callback).
And the story…is completely meh. Young Marcus is so freaking cringe, Rebecca isn’t anymore interesting than her RE1 portrayal, Wesker-Birkin do nothing.
-
I think my problem was I didn’t want to switch between characters because I played favorites
-
Yeah
Only billy can't
