Am I the only one that thought Welcome to Raccoon City was the best RE film that’s been made? That’s not saying much but it’s better than nothing.

Eh I think I could argue the first Paul WS movie is a better “movie” but this was definitely the closest to the games I felt in a theater.

ID: hmv0855

I agree. The first Anderson RE movie was better than Welcome to Racoon City. But this movie was the closest to the games but it lacked so much.

ID: hmv1e75

Yeah I’m fine with the character changes (though having Wesker one of the boys was a stranger choice to me than dumb young Leon) my biggest issue is the destruction of the mansion and all of Raccoon City.

They plowed through 3 or 4 movies worth of material in 85 minutes!

3 : Anonymous2021/12/01 13:47 ID: hmsmlhr

I enjoyed it more than the Alice chronicles, but I can see how Leon’s poor writing and all the fan service could turn off others in the fandom. To each their own.

ID: hmsn371

The Leon being a dunce stuff killed me

ID: hmtiwsi

Nothing against the actor or anything, but I was really hoping Leon would have his trademark emo bangs.

ID: hmusfkq

I liked Leon 🙁 even though he looked different. But by the end of the movie he was more badass. He got a little bit of an arc in the basement when he killed that zombie. The look on his face changed to a more serious one for the rest of the movie.

ID: hmssidj

That's his character. The light-hearted chill guy who survived hell in Raccoon City and was found to actually be a badass.

ID: hmu9gw1

Alice chronicle’s is a action movie with Resident evil in the name

4 : Anonymous2021/12/01 16:05 ID: hmt5a5o

“Better than nothing” is exactly why they treat video game franchises like garbage.

ID: hmtier4

The only good video game movie I saw was assassin's Creed lineage. About Ezio's father as an assassin.

ID: hmuabmu

Have you seen the Ace Attorney movie? Still the best adaptation IMO

5 : Anonymous2021/12/01 14:08 ID: hmsp8sh

I'm going on a RE film journey because I haven't seen them before. I'll watch the Anderson films then finish with WTRC. The first one wasn't bad, the camera work and build up were pretty good.

ID: hmu1yvk

If nothing else they're a fun enough experience if you don't think too deeply about them, and are okay with them not sticking to the games. The only one I truly hate is the last one, because several characters from the previous one that were really awesome are just presumably killed off screen since the actors didn't come back. Really you only would probably come to dislike them if you step away and look to hard at them, but that's anything really. If nothing else the first few are consistently enjoyable

ID: hmsvjvz

The first and second were decent, the 4th was interesting because wentworth Miller played chris Redfield and was coming off of huge popularity from Prison Break. But overall Alice as a superhuman throughout the films became over the top and really pulled away from the games. That was frustrating.

I really liked this RE welcome to Racoon city because it shows more of the games storyline, has more of a horror feel, and Chris Redfield (who is my favorite) was actually really well done. Yes it sucks that Barry was not in it and Leon was kind of a side character, but I’ll still take it for what it tried to do and value it.

In an ideal world, they could have focused on RE1 only and spent more time with character depth of the STARS team. Then after spending a good amount of time knowing the characters, the Spencer mansion investigation and deaths would’ve carried more weight. Then a sequel would’ve been really neat with Claire coming into the city to find her brother.

6 : Anonymous2021/12/01 21:02 ID: hmufgx0

I wished it was 30 min longer with the locations, more monsters and mansion, some of the city and more lab. It felt like they basically entered 1 room of each location and left. I like it equal to the first re movie. They’re both dumb movies that have the essence of the games. The older one has an awesome soundtrack and definitely fits the vibe of post matrix action/sci fi cinema and the laser room was a great trap. The new one definitely was missing traps and puzzles but had an excellent atmosphere. The licker looked AWESOME in the new one and I like that they had some comeraderie between the characters, even if it’s wrong it has more dimension that the boring stock characters than the precious movies. I’ll take this Leon over the one from Anderson universe.

7 : Anonymous2021/12/01 18:36 ID: hmtsgwy

What got me the most is when Leon meets Clair for the first time in the garage. He pulls his gun out and says drop your gun… she’s clearly holding a fire extinguisher

8 : Anonymous2021/12/01 19:45 ID: hmu34xh

This is exactly what I told my friend as I left the theater. The bar to clear is basically on the floor, and they barely cleared it, but I guess that counts for something.

9 : Anonymous2021/12/01 19:52 ID: hmu4alm

Maybe the best Live action movie.

10 : Anonymous2021/12/01 20:05 ID: hmu6dzf

I enjoyed the Alice chronicles, havnt seen the Welcome to Raccoon City one yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

11 : Anonymous2021/12/01 21:54 ID: hmuno72

I loved the movie. I liked leon, nothing against the actor, but they should've re casted leon. But besides that, I like him. Leon's a stuttering, rookie. Not knowing what to do, emptying a full clip into a already dead zombie, freaking out. Like a rookie.

Also, it felt like the movie was a bit to dark and loud. Not sure if it's the movie or the movie theater I was at

12 : Anonymous2021/12/01 17:29 ID: hmthyx7

I do wish it had been made into a Netflix series or something. This movie shows there is totally potential for adaptations, just not enough time to do it all right because not enough people would pay for a 3 hour zombie movie.

Start out with the Alpha team at the mansion, and then switch out toward Leon/Claire/Sherry alternating with Jill.

13 : Anonymous2021/12/01 18:35 ID: hmtsdtm

It really was by far the best of all 7 live adaptations imo. I can really see why people are upset because none of the characterization was really there for their game counterparts (spoiler) >! except maybe Ada, but she appears for 2 minutes in a mid credits scene !<. I do agree with the general consensus that if the idea is to continue the franchise, it would have been better to mesh the events of 0 and 1 instead of 1 and 2. Over all, it served horror in equal parts to its action, and I think it's a movie those who have casually played/watched previous RE game entries can really enjoy.

14 : Anonymous2021/12/01 19:17 ID: hmtysin

I feel like this movie needs its own Snyder cut and it would be very good. The ending was waaaay too rushed. The Easter eggs definitely are the highlight of this film. Leon I actually liked, but with an extended version they could make him become the badass we know and love like really flesh his character out more.

ID: hmutd3h

Petition for Resident Evil WTRC Snyder cut!

15 : Anonymous2021/12/01 16:37 ID: hmta3cd

You are not alone I definitely enjoyed it. But i can also understand why some people were upset with characterizations or the cast didn't fit their (sometimes very unreasonable) expectations as in "how does clair not have a ponytail". I personally thought they all looked fine they didn't need to be an exact copy of the characters just catch the spirit of what they were.

ID: hmtr6j1

I feel like Jill and Leon were misses. Both in their looks as well as the characters themselves.

Jill was some battle hardened hard ass going in. And Leon is some dumb ass cop who only got his shitty job because of nepotism.

Didn't match the good character development in the games, and it did the movie itself a disservice.

16 : Anonymous2021/12/01 16:35 ID: hmt9v4b

I really liked it even my boyfriend who isn’t a fan of the games or Resident Evil in general enjoyed it. I kinda get the hate it’s getting but not at the same time.

17 : Anonymous2021/12/01 19:28 ID: hmu0ibn

I liked it alot, the detail they put in Birkin was awesome.

Yea…. leon…. Idk about that one tho

18 : Anonymous2021/12/01 19:36 ID: hmu1sql

I'm waffling because they both did good things and some awful things. They both just sort of throw a bunch of the series' iconography into a blender but the different characterizations are what stand out to me. WRC sort of ruined Leon and Jill but especially Wesker. The Alice-verse has much more blood on it's hands. Wesker is the only STARS member that's kind of accurate, Leon looks like Krauser wearing a Leon costume, and Carlos was so horribly mistreated that they never even realized that they got his last name wrong.

19 : Anonymous2021/12/01 20:08 ID: hmu6qx2

can someone tell me if leon shot a bazooka at the monster that was right next to chris? Was I not paying attention because that ruined the movie for me...

Also how could chris and the other guy not hear the helicopter crash into the mansion? Why did Jill have to say "We have got to tell the others that the pilot died." Like dang that was so pointless.

Some of the dialogue was so bad. I loved the actors, but damn.

20 : Anonymous2021/12/01 20:52 ID: hmudsgq

We have yet to get a good live-action RE film as far as I'm concerned, and maybe never will with how dismally WTRC is doing both with the reviews and at the box office.

21 : Anonymous2021/12/01 22:20 ID: hmurn2l

I really enjoyed it. Honestly though, I think they could have take it a little slower.. instead of cramming the story lines together. and also.. making Leon a joke was a little upsetting.. but overall I did enjoy it and I actually want to watch it again haha

22 : Anonymous2021/12/01 22:20 ID: hmurrsj

You’re not alone.

Guarantee, if you’re someone who thinks like the OP, and went in going “I’m gonna enjoy it for what it is” I bet we have mostly the same issues.

Locations great, atmosphere and zombies great. Of course. SO MUCH mish-mash of stories that led to so many non-canon meet ups.

These movies would be close to PERFECT, I’d bet money on this, if they started with an RE1 movie alone. Then ended with like a Doberman reaching the edge of the Arklay forest into Raccoon teasing a 2&3 sequel

23 : Anonymous2021/12/01 17:58 ID: hmtmh16

I’d actually prefer nothing.

24 : Anonymous2021/12/01 18:04 ID: hmtnek7

The first three Anderson movies were better than WTRC. And while WTRC is the closest the films have gotten to the games, it fails tremendously with poor pacing, changing the characters for the worst, and feeling cheap as all hell.

25 : Anonymous2021/12/01 17:20 ID: hmtgqqd

I had a total blast watching the film! I was always so upset at the original films having like almost nothing to do with the games. I knew it wouldn't be a totally faithful adaptation so I went into the theater with a light hearted attitude about it. It was a fun time. Some legit criticisms of course, like the text that kept appearing on the screen was totally unnecessary and the end felt super rushed. I liked Leon's character but would have liked to see him show his tough-punk attitude. Good movie.

26 : Anonymous2021/12/01 18:08 ID: hmto36j

It’s a generally enjoyable movie, not a quality film, but a fun turn off your brain experience for fans of the series. People are just upset it doesn’t follow the source characters by the book but you’re right, it’s a hell of a lot better than any of the other movies. I personally really liked it. It definitely helped going in and not expecting a 1 for 1 remake. Some people are just purposefully dismissing the movie for not being accurate when all adaptations aren’t.

ID: hmty9sa

I agree! There were a few legit criticisms I have of the movie but overall I had a great time.

27 : Anonymous2021/12/01 18:19 ID: hmtpr0f

It’s definitely the most faithful RE movie. That being said it’s not a good movie unfortunately. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it. But what killed it for me was the clear lack of budget Sony gave the director. I couldn’t stop thinking about how awesome it could have been if he’d gotten the same budget as the previous films. Maybe we would have gotten Mr X, seen more of NEST than the tiny room where birkin mutates. Maybe a Tyrant? Raccoon city could have felt more like a city instead of a small midwestern town lol. I dunno I enjoyed it for what it was but wished there was more.

28 : Anonymous2021/12/01 21:28 ID: hmujn86

I loved it , the movie get old. It felt like a movie you’d rent out in blockbuster or go in a drive in to see it. I loved how cheesy it was while also being filled with Easter eggs . Definitely the best live action RE movie out there

29 : Anonymous2021/12/01 22:11 ID: hmuqbao

I thought it was pretty bad, not horrible though. And at least it felt like resident evil, so it’s a huge step up over those garbage ass Alice movies we got before imo

Def a lot of room for improvement but it’s heading in the right direction now at least

30 : Anonymous2021/12/01 14:36 ID: hmssqc6

It was very fan-servicey. The Jill Sandwich thing was kind of cringy and all of the characters were awfully cast... They seem like they had a very vague idea of who wesker is.

But I went in with such low expectations that I was actually decently impressed. I wish they would have included Mr. X though.

ID: hmssu5a

I was really hoping for Mr. X or Tyrant in the mansion

31 : Anonymous2021/12/01 16:40 ID: hmtamgx

That was the worst adaptation I've seen by far. For a movie that's suppose to be true to the games... It really wasnt.

ID: hmti67l

that's suppose to be true to the games...

That that is a bold face lie.

ID: hmthd53

How can you say it's the worst adaptation you've seen when the previous RE movies literally have almost nothing to do with the games!?

32 : Anonymous2021/12/01 14:31 ID: hmss4yv

The Anderson films were better movies but if I wanted to watch a “Resident Evil” movie I’d rather watch Welcome to Raccoon City.

33 : Anonymous2021/12/01 15:35 ID: hmt0ybh

I think not having a film is better. The constant disappointments have created so much apathy (including the most recent animated films and series) that I won't see another RE film or series.

34 : Anonymous2021/12/01 21:02 ID: hmufj9c

Dude I seen it the other day and I was shocked on how much negative reviews I read about it, I thought it was amazing by far the best resident evil film that has been made
