I know this is a meme, but honestly got me thinking about how hard it will be for games or content in general to become these massive cultural touchstones like chess years from now. And how people like this meme shows, would want to change it instead of learning new strategies to take on the challenge.
(I know chess has changed a lot since it was invented, and that games today are much more complicated and thus require extensive tweaking, but I think the point still applies).

Chess is a board game so it’d come with crappy cardboard tokens or decent minis for an extra $50.

Actually they would only sell you 1/2 of the board. 1/4 of it would be broken, and we would be waiting for someone to come and fix it, while the other 1/4 was held back to resell to us as cosmetics or dlc.
