Queens Gambit is a little different from Chess.
The core difference is that you need to pop 3 chlordiazepoxide (assumed real drug substituted for the fake one in the show), about an hour before playing and halfway through the game everybody takes a 15 minute "get fucked up," break.

Me in my peers in chess club try and get us to play other versions of chess officially, my suggestion is 5d chess with multiverse time travel or Paradox-Billiards-Vostroyan-Roulette-Fourth-Dimensional-Hypercube-Chess-Strip Poker.
