Maybe they'll start Windows Mobile back up and give us all phones so we can finally play Diablo again.

Which microsoft account? Windows account? Xbox account? Battlenet, Bethesada? So many to choose from now.
ID: ht8bitwWaaaait a second... maybe all these can combine into one account finally. Fewer passwords to remember.
Edit: less -> fewer
ID: ht8f8e8One account to rule them all.
ID: ht8e6dyMojang accounts are just now being migrated and they were purchased in 2014. So maybe in another 7 years we will see BNET being merged.
ID: ht8h4nm1 word: passwordmanager
ID: ht8bje5I think it will be all integrated into an Xbox account, Wich will be tied to your Microsoft account, or all the accounts will be tied to the Xbox account and have a separate Microsoft one
(This is what I think and has been in NO WAY said by Microsoft)

This is how people have felt about Github for the past few years
Still waiting to see how it plays out...
ID: ht869s9Well in my book, that's so far, so good.
ID: ht8asulThat acquisition has definitely improved Intellisense in Visual Studio. Why, yes, I will, "Hit Tab to complete."
ID: ht8denfThey handed out a bunch of previously paid features like unlimited free private repositories which was really neat. I think they've done good in the developer space in the last 10 years or so.
ID: ht8a3v7At the moment, the internet is just stunned with regards to the Microsoft + Activision/Blizzard situation
With GitHub, we're... Cautious.

JUST TELL ME HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THINGS

ID: ht879bfFrom a mega corporation standpoint. Bad. From a, Activision and blizzard are so unbelievably fucked up and everything they release now is broken garbage stand point. Maybe good? There games can not get any worse than they already are.
ID: ht8cf0tMicrosoft has a pretty good track record so far. At least compared to a lot of companies. Look what they did with Minecraft. The game is older than many of the millions of players playing it. Look at Gamepass.
But more importantly look at Blizzard / Activision. Microsoft might make things a lot better, or just improve a little. But as you said they can't get much worse. Optimistically Microsoft might revive some of the dead IPs Blizzard has been sitting on.
ID: ht8brscIt's bad that Microsoft is becoming a larger company with fewer and fewer competitors.
It's good because Microsoft has been doing a lot of good for gaming the past few years. They have made deals with a bunch of smaller companies that from what we understand is basically "Here's a blank check, go make the game you want to make, and use this check to make it the best version of that game that you can".
We won't know what kind of effect this will have on these larger acquisitions for a few more years. Bethesda's next big game under MS ownership is Starfield, set to possibly release next year. And since the game was already well under development, we won't know for sure what kind of impact MS has on it. ActiBlizz have several IPs under development already. Blizzards' are mostly in development hell at this point though. The Acquisition won't finalize for at least another year, and the only immediate impacts we will see is how many executives/management get laid off. With game impacts becoming observable another 2-3 years after that.Another Good, is that it also means that the xbox game pass is becoming a better and better deal for consumers. Especially when you consider that for the relatively small price of it, you will get day 1 access to a lot of major game releases, now including everything ActiBlizz, and also Bethesda (who they acquired last year).
However on the flip side, as these types of subcription passes become more and more successful, they will also become more and more prevalent. Every large publisher has already been trying to do this, Sony has had PS+ forever, though not quite as significant as Xbox GP, EA did the same with their Origin+ or whatever around the time Anthem came out, and I think ubisoft is doing something or considering doing something as well.
ones go about making money with their games (and perhaps not always for the best).
This may have a negative impact on the idea of purchasing full games in the future for the common gamer. People may become more hesitant to pay $60+ for a new game when they could just get it for $10-15 through a pass, play it for a month, drop it, and either cancel their subscription or move on to the next game.
This may result in a significant change in how game developers, especially smalleID: ht8gfdtVideo games are moving to a subscription model with paid DLC similar to F2P. The dev CEOs shot themselves in the dick & traded upfront purchases with expansions for it.
ID: ht8gvc4And no guarantee the passes remain at that price either. It's likely to go up at some point like how Netflix has done
ID: ht8g2b0This may have a negative impact on the idea of purchasing full games in the future for the common gamer. This will most likely push more games into Games as a Service (GaaS).
Games will drop, but the day one content will be limited. From there, two choices will happen: either content will be dropped on a regular basis as long as some internal metrics are met, or, players will have to pay some additional fee to access new content as it is released (season pass or DLC).

Microsoft doesn't want to be a part of the gaming industry, they want to OWN it.

Think of the new StarCraft Minecraft RTS now!
ID: ht81lnuMicrosoft is probably collecting all "Craft" games... Minecraft, Warcraft, Starcraft...
ID: ht888ruMicrosoft in negotiations with all elementary schools To purchase all Arts and Crafts.

thats so supervillian of them

Bobby Kotick likely getting kicked out the door after the merger is definitely good.
-
It means Bobby Kotick will be out as CEO.
That's Good!
But it won't happen for about a year
That's Bad
It also means they won't be pressured to make cookie cutter Blockbuster games
That's Good!
But games will take longer to develop
That's Bad
But more Activision Blizzard games will be on Xbox Game Pass
That's Good!
This will inevitable raise the price of Xbox Game Pass per month...
ID: ht89939And that’s bad
ID: ht8afs1Can I go home now?
ID: ht8clm3But games will take longer to develop.
I would argue that this is good. If we stop rushing games, then maybe we can get something actually good and not the buggy messes that developers keep churning out year after year with a promise of fixing things in the future.
ID: ht8ik3mBenefits of longer development time:
More thorough and interesting gameplay design Better stories Not releasing a buggy mess that needs a day-1 patch Not fucking over developers with endless crunch"Blizzard Time" was a meme back in the day (before it was "Valve Time") because they used to take forever to release anything and weren't afraid to push back deadlines. The result was one of the best game studios in the world that released hit after hit after hit...
