Resident Evil 6

1 : Anonymous2022/02/24 15:56 ID: t0ebeh

Why is there a post almost everyday asking why RE6 is hated? The reason it was hated back in the day was because it was a further dive into what RE fans were tired of at the time and that was more action and less survival horror elements. It didn't help that the story was really dumb and took itself way too seriously. I guess RE5 did too but that game had a bit more charm to it.

Maybe tomorrow’s “Why is RE6 hated?” post will be better.

All we can do is hope

I'm pretty sure, we finally nipped it in the bud.

The real evil was the residents we found along the way

Beautifully done.

This is why I internet

ID: hyb84pd

My husband and I like to speculate who the residents are and why they are evil in each game.

4 : Anonymous2022/02/24 18:43 ID: hy9wvnf

It’s entertaining reading so many comments trying to say why they didn’t like RE6

5 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:09 ID: hy98a6d

Tbh I was thinking the same thing this morning when I saw another post about it but there are a lot of repeated questions here. Once a week I see What's your favorite or least favorite RE? I no longer check these. I love RE6.

6 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:41 ID: hy9db4y

Enoughs been said about how it was too action oriented, but I never hear people call out how many sequences between campaigns were repeated. The Ada finale’s identical to Leon’s finale. Chris and jake seemingly share half the same game for their respective campaigns. A little integration never hurt anyone, but when you’re doing a playthrough through all 4 campaigns, I really shouldn’t be saying “Urghh, this fight again?l” as frequently as I was.

ID: hyalo0y

I don't think it was that overkill personally. You had integrated boss fights which were fairly well done in my opinion but outside of that, no, they really weren't identical.

Though I agree with the vast majority that RE2R is a better game, that was way worse with having Leon and Claire encounter the exact same things in both scenarios, and that game actually created a conflicting canon by doing that. RE6 didn't, when you encountered the same boss in RE6 in two different campaigns, the other characters showed up as if your campaigns were intersecting and I thought that was cool actually.

ID: hyad3lg

Ada's partner agent was just a reskinned Chris with a few of Pierce's moves

ID: hyb6b4m

There was, what, one or two Leon scenes for each Chris and Jake, if that, and same fore the other campaigns? It really was not very many repeated scenes at all

7 : Anonymous2022/02/24 17:53 ID: hy9oy9n

It’s because Reddit is predominately young people who are playing the game for the first time.

8 : Anonymous2022/02/24 20:45 ID: hyageb7

Got to have something to alternate with the "Why is RE3make so hated?" posts, I guess.

9 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:20 ID: hy99y9g

RE4 and RE5 are my favorite RE games and I had no problems with the action element of RE6. I spent more hours playing the mercenaries mode in RE6 than any other RE game. In terms of its value as an action game, RE6 was fine.

With that said, the campaigns were bad. Like, straight-up not enjoyable to play. Chris's especially was annoying because they combined CoD-style action setpieces with RE-style ammo scarcity so during these long run-and-gun sequences I'd be constantly running out of ammo. I only bothered getting through Leon's campaign and I remember hating the final boss.

ID: hya4k2s

You should not be running out of ammo in chris's campaign until the final boss if you are employing the melee mechanics. I've had this happen at one point & it's because I was playing it like a traditional tps which is not the way to go.

Yes, that's the point I was making: if you play it like Call of Duty (which is it clearly trying to emulate), you run out of ammo.

ID: hyb6j0j

Pretty sure Chris’ campaign had the most ammo, and even on the harder difficulties it was very hard to run out of ammo, even if you never did any of the melee moves

10 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:07 ID: hy97td3

I have no nostalgia for re6, but i still think its a very alright action game

11 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:20 ID: hy99zp6

I thought 6 was a pretty fun game for what it was, a pretty good shooter. It’s kind of a guilty pleasure, fighting zombies with kicks, knives, and a truckload of bullets. For those looking for a decent little action game with an undead spin I’m always down!

ID: hyap6gk

I second this!

12 : Anonymous2022/02/24 17:29 ID: hy9kyll

I will always love re6

13 : Anonymous2022/02/24 19:03 ID: hy9zzyr

RE6 is fascinating in retrospect. Complete mess of pacing, but also the most ambitious in terms of scope. Huge variety in atmosphere and locations, but no discipline in terms of what pieces should fit together. Incredibly complex narrative, that's not cohesive or intuitively understandable unless you delve into the documents between chapters and the end somehow attempts to return to a status quo. There's an attempt at making every character feel different through play style and enemies, but they all come off as gimmicky or half-committed. The character's are both earnestly presented and evolved, but the story only ever highlights their least interesting traits.

It's the most "We understand what people want, but not how they want it" game I've ever seen. Amazing Mercenaries mode though.

14 : Anonymous2022/02/24 20:49 ID: hyah0i9

I think more so than that, the buginess and lack of polish to the game threw people off. You're absolutely right about the action but I personally love RE6 as a goofy game. I personally feel more so that RE5 is too serious and has a bad balance of action/lack of horror like you're saying. With that said, if I bought both at launch (I got both on steam sales), I'd be really mad with 6.

ID: hyahbi9

Yea but RE5 has Wesker and Boulder Punching Chris.

15 : Anonymous2022/02/24 18:36 ID: hy9vpgb

I wouldn't say either game has good story, but i actually think RE6 story is better than RE5.

RE6 is the most over the top the series has ever been, and they execute everything with a straight face. Which makes everything absolutely hilarious, where you can have fun laughing at it. It's dumb, but at the very least it's entertaining.

RE5 on the other hand, it's not only dumb but also boring. The only time where it gets any fun it's when Wesker is on screen, but he doesn't get enough screen time to save the story.

16 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:05 ID: hy97iai

Because we reached the Nostalgia point. Im also annoyed by posts that be like "Is It JuSt Me Or WaS rE6 FuN?" pick any hated game, go to Youtube and watch the recent comments and nearly any(!!) comment will sound like that. Good example are old hated COD games like Advanced Warfare. If you look for Advance Warfare videos from 2021, or 2022 you will see comments like, Am I the Only one that thought AW was awesome with hundreds of upvotes. In reality its just nostalgia and they only miss the times they used to play that particular hated game.

ID: hy9w1yw

I mean, peoples' opinions of Shadow the Hedgehog are changing in a positive direction. Low-key swearing and gun-toting in a Sonic game had found it's way into the hearts of many.

ID: hy9bnnf

Adding on to this people generally have extra nostalgia for the first game in a series they played. Regardless of whether it's a loved or hated entry.

ID: hy9axac

This is very true.

ID: hya5f7b

OR maybe you don't have to have nostalgia to like a game older than 2015, and if it did have a controversial reception it is going to be a lot more acceptable to say years after the game is dead.

"They just miss the times they used to play that particular hated game" is pure projection. These games that sell 9 figures are obviously not universally hated lol.

I doubt a zoomer would understand all that though.

ID: hyapwmo
ID: hyaf6ju

Didnt know a dude born in 92 is now a Zoomer and I never claimed that the games I mentioned are universally hated, but the overall preception was undeniably negative, otherwise Capcom didnt felt the need to drastically change the series with 7 and Activison going all out with their "boots on the ground" PR.

17 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:25 ID: hy9ask6

uNpOpUlAr OpInIoN bUt DAE lOvE Le UnDeRaTeD gEm RE6????????????????????

18 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:04 ID: hy97h6i

I don't resident evil should have went from horror to a shooter imo

19 : Anonymous2022/02/24 19:14 ID: hya1q96

Everyone’s been complaining about how “it’s an action game not a horror game!” But I don’t think that’s the issue. The problem is the action game tries to be an action movie.

Re5 was very much action-oriented but was still a fun game because it was well made, with decent gameplay elements. RE6 is not well made at all. The inventory system is bad, the combat is weak, confusing, and has horrible controls that are even worse to attempt to re-bind. Like really? my run button has to be the same as my open-doors button? WHY??? The melee combat is just not rewarding, it’s too easy, the on-screen prompts are completely over-the-top.

All that aside, every time the game starts to really dive into some actual gameplay, you get interrupted and shoved into a cutscene that you can’t even sit back and enjoy because you have to press 20 different QTE buttons.

Fuck the story, fuck the action, fuck the characters, none of that is why RE6 is a bad game. It’s a bad game because the gameplay mechanics are HORRID, and an insult to game devs everywhere

20 : Anonymous2022/02/24 17:40 ID: hy9mqec

A bit of preamble. I bought the Resident Evil games available on steam and I have been playing them in order of release.

So I made it to RE6 and I can safely say that it is the worst resident evil game I have ever played. Even for an action game it is pretty bad.

The controls aren't tight. The enemy AI for the j'avo can be quite dumb. The story is pretty lackluster.

I am on Jake's campaign after playing Leon's and Chris' and I have to fight myself to keep playing through and not move on to the next title.

It's an objectively average game and that's a generous average.

21 : Anonymous2022/02/24 18:59 ID: hy9zd2g

Started re6 back when it first came out and I was a full on gamer obsessed with re. Tried Chris’s campaign. It was crap and I stopped after an hour, so I tried Leon’s campaign. It was a bit less crap and I stopped after an hour and a half. I just gave up after that. Please note that I had beaten re5 a number of and even gotten the platinum trophy, not to mention that I eagerly awaited all the dlc’s and beat them the same day they were released. That was in 2009 and I checked out some gameplay and cutscenes recently and I surprised myself that I still remembered a lot of the lines. That’s how my re5 and re6 experiences compare to each other.

Re6’s story was just plain bad. It was just a bunch of action sequences and way too many characters, which is ironic since the game itself had no actual character. I remember thinking that the graphics and the enemy design were a noticeable step up, but these improved aesthetics weren’t even close enough to be considered redeeming qualities. The game was just too fast paced. You don’t get the chance to really enjoy and appreciate anything. A new foe would look really cool but there would be no build up or proper introduction for him into the re world. The foe just appears and a few minutes later, it’s dead. The game looked good, but it had no soul and was really hollow.

22 : Anonymous2022/02/24 18:34 ID: hy9vig6

But WHYYYYY is it hated? /s

23 : Anonymous2022/02/24 19:33 ID: hya4s5h

Must of read my comment about it being posted at least once a week.

24 : Anonymous2022/02/24 23:04 ID: hyb2h1l

No zombies. Then they gave the zombies guns. Stupid

25 : Anonymous2022/02/24 23:32 ID: hyb6l6b

I've never played through resident evil 6 because I always heard it was bad I think I'm gonna have to go try it I really don't mind the action packed re games considering 4 is still my favorite followed by re2 remake

26 : Anonymous2022/02/24 23:35 ID: hyb6ylq

Well, for one, some new people come to the Reddit and the older posts are already dead even if they are not archived, plus if you go through, not too many users repeat themselves on each post, so each time it is posted there seems to be other people giving their reasons, making each post a fresh discussion/post even if it is a repeated question. Also, outside of the ones specifically asking about RE6, RE6 gets the most hate, so some people who haven’t tried it or have just started trying it and don’t understand the hate are curious and want to discuss it.

Edit: I had “so” too many times in one sentence, reworked that part

27 : Anonymous2022/02/24 23:35 ID: hyb7262

Why the hate for questioning the hate of re 6?

28 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:32 ID: hy9bx3d

It was a pure action game with 0 horror elements. It's fine as an action game but considering RE is a horror franchise, RE6 sticks out like a sore thumb as it's just not a Resident Evil game

29 : Anonymous2022/02/24 18:51 ID: hy9y7mi

Not gonna lie, I probably played about 10 minutes of RE6

30 : Anonymous2022/02/24 16:51 ID: hy9evrt

Have it for ps4 still sealed. I got all ps4 RE titles except village.Maybe I should play RE6?

I got re4 and played it for nostalgia. Was a great game back in the day.

Got re5 and played it. Didn't complete it just like back in the day. So boring...and the atrocious character models. Hands for days.

Skipped ahead to RE7 and something was just off about it. I still enjoyed it but I felt like things were missing because I played it on pc a year back and there were definitely more mannequins. Ps4 was less scary.

Is Village better than 7?

ID: hy9qzx9

It is worse than 7

32 : Anonymous2022/02/24 18:55 ID: hy9yrf2

I would say because it's a known fact that the community loathes the game, plus the fact that whenever someone asks (never gets old) why it's hated everyone jumps in stating the same fact: it's not a horror game but an action one, hence, it's sucks as a Resident Evil installment.

33 : Anonymous2022/02/24 19:27 ID: hya3xke

The story is the best in the franchise; you just give 5 a pass because it has more re1/cv linked nostalgia.

34 : Anonymous2022/02/24 19:52 ID: hya7vyx

Are you being serious, best in the franchise? Also, I mostly gave 5 a pass because Wesker is so entertaining.

35 : Anonymous2022/02/24 19:57 ID: hya8lyc

Yes, 6's story is the only one in which we see actual, fleshed out character arc and an internally cohesive, complex narrative.

36 : Anonymous2022/02/24 21:25 ID: hyamy0k

Funny thing that people who hate re6 are the same people blowing their load on re4.

37 : Anonymous2022/02/24 21:27 ID: hyan79r

What do you mean by this?

38 : Anonymous2022/02/24 21:28 ID: hyanex4

Cause re4 is same as 6.

39 : Anonymous2022/02/24 23:16 ID: hyb4a67

The reason it was hated back in the day was because it was a further dive into what RE fans I [was] tired of at the time

Fixed that for you. Plenty of people loved RE6, which makes them by default RE fans.

40 : Anonymous2022/02/24 23:32 ID: hyb6ics

Are you being serious, the RE fandom at the time definitely was not happy with the direction the games were taking.
