We need to move on from the old cast.

I'm not saying I never want to see them again but their stories have gone on for far too long. Seeing Chris again in RE8 just makes me think, this man has gone through hell and back so many times. When does his story end? The fact that over 20 years later he's still fighting the undead is just upsetting. I think Ethan is the step in the right direction but we need to introduce a new cast that can take up the mantle.

I’ve been saying this for awhile and you make complete sense. I feel like Chris making a career out of it could be an exception but those wanting to see from Billy, Carlos, Rebecca, etc. it’s like why would they be involved in another situation unless they just have the worst luck in the world. The story of Resident Evil has actually been really bad since the end of 3. After that the story kept reaching back for old character nostalgia and outrageous plot points. The 1st three all tied together so it would make sense for someone like Jill to be in 2 of the 3. But now 20+ years later we really think these characters still have ties to this?

Agree. All that BSAA bs was too much. The Leon secret service agent was borderline too much but I accepted it

What would be great is if they could fucking consolidate most of the storylines and bring these character arcs to an actual conclusion. I thought that's where they were going with the reboot but then they just kept going with 8.

I would be fine if new characters took over if they properly tagged out the older ones.

Like why don't we ever hear from Carlos after RE3, especially since they made him such a strong character in the reboot? He doesn't have to be a main or be playable, just something that gives us a solid idea of where he is. He seemed to form a pretty strong bond with Jill. Does he just land the helicopter after the nuke, hang up his dog tags and like what? become a manager at a radioshack? I can understand him or other characters not exactly being interested to jump into the fray again, but wouldn't they stay involved a bit more?

Jill, Leon, and Claire all swore to get back at umbrella after escaping Racoon city. It always seemed odd to me that they never really teamed up and went their own ways. It's not like there were a ton of survivors I think they would find out about each other. Like with CV wouldn't it have made more sense for Jill and Claire to be trying to find Chris? That seemed like a wasted opportunity to not use Jill. Also a better opportunity for Jill to "die" then, especially since Wesker was already snatching up bodies for boiweapons, like with Steve, whom we never fucking hear from again even though they made it sound like he wasn't *really dead*.

CV could have been the "take down" of Umbrella leading up to RE4. You could have nicely wrapped up Claire and Jill's stories as they found Chris and got the dirt they needed to end Umbrella. Leon and Chris decide to stay in law enforcement, so we wrap them up with in RE4 and RE5 respectively.

Sure we make some cameos, call backs and references to the original cast, but then RE6 could have been it's own thing. Instead we have the multi headed hydra that is the RE universe.

Some of the issues I’d see with them teaming up is that I don’t see how or when it would happen. Jill and Claire didn’t seem to have any communication or interaction during or after raccoon city. They probably didn’t have any communication before raccoon city either since Claire was completely out of the loop of what Chris was doing. The re2 remake had Chris write a letter to Jill to tell Claire some kind of bs story but I don’t think Claire even got that message. Leon and Claire probably could’ve worked together after 2 since the story of the government taking Leon didn’t really seem established until 4 or darkside chronicles. But even then, Leon doesn’t have to be there since Chris isn’t his priority and Claire being alone is better for a horror game.

I agree and disagree. The problem is capcom handles the character stories so poorly. They set up the end of their games for certain things that have just feel open ended, for example the ending of CV and Revelations. The mystery of Ada, what happened to Manuela and Jake. There’s so much more they could do that would make the ogs more interesting but they keep revisiting the same story just a different game with these characters and in turns makes a lot of people ready for a change. I personally found Ethan one of the most dull characters in the franchise. I wish after 6 they would have rebooted it or completely broke away instead of jumbling the story even more.

You don't think 7 was a reboot? They did exactly what you're suggesting. Yes, Ethan was full but that just means they did it poorly.

In my opinion they should have committed to the original plan of killing Chris in RE6 and having Piers replace him, it would have been a great way for him to go (I was also really attached to Piers because he reminds me of one of my friends so take this with a grain of salt lol)

ID: gq5jnlk

I agree, piers had the most potential from the new RE6 cast to carry the legacy. A young and idealistic man who wanted to fight for the right thing like leon and a dedicated soldier who values his comrades like brothers, kinda like chris. Chris didn’t have to necessarily die, he could’ve retired and be a instructor for the BSAA. Sherry on the other hand has survived raccoon city- and the c-virus outbreak, has connections with the old cast and is young enough for the same purpose

I would prefer we stick with the main cast for the main titles, and others such as Ethan for side games, and also have prequel games, giving more story for the characters and having them in their prime rather than them get older and older.

7 : Anonymous2021/03/08 04:34 ID: gq6fg9y

Same Fisher is in his 60's, still doing what he does.

Can't really call the old cast too old when they're not even old enough to get a senior citizen discount while a guy that is is still ghosting mooks as if he were thirty years younger.

8 : Anonymous2021/03/08 07:11 ID: gq6rt0j

I agree. The problem is these characters never got an ending. RE6 should've wrapped up these characters so we can move on to new characters like Ethan.

9 : Anonymous2021/03/07 21:42 ID: gq55e00

I agree, but only because the longer they stick around, the more Capcom will run them into the ground and ruin them.

I want the series to end if I’m really honest. Think about it, if they have new characters replace the old ones, then what was the point in all the crap the old ones went through? Ethan is not worthy replacement though, he’s just an avatar.

The series obviously won’t end soon, Capcom will run it into the ground, this is certain. RE will end on a low note, whenever people tire of it, that’s its fate. It won’t go out on its own terms.

All I really want is a game where people are stuck somewhere with zombies and mutated monsters, and you have to solve puzzles and do resource and trip management. I don't really mind if the RE Umbrella lore and all that comes to an end.

If Capcom wants to start a new story outside that, it's fine. That is exactly what I thought they were doing until Chris stopped by at the end of RE7 for no fucking reason and linked the two stories.

Not sure how long they can keep up the BOW stuff, because it has never made any sense to me to begin with, and I wondered why they were doing the same thing in 7, until near the end.

10 : Anonymous2021/03/07 21:38 ID: gq54ubo

Very good point. Or at least let them take a back seat.

11 : Anonymous2021/03/08 05:45 ID: gq6lnjp

I'm fine with a new cast, but only if the old cast gets real endings. Chris and Jill retire or something, and Leon and Ada finally get together in some capacity.

And even then, I'd still want them to show up for cameos here and there.

12 : Anonymous2021/03/08 06:51 ID: gq6qgk1

i'd say that it depends on the character's individual story. what you said about chris is right, he's overused. i still think it's possible to keep the franchise moving forward with new character while still using some of the old ones.

13 : Anonymous2021/03/08 10:02 ID: gq72dzx

It’s been like that since around 5 and 6, it’s just a lot of fans really love these characters so they keep bringing them back. Even when the introduce new characters to take over they usually end up getting killed in their own breakout games as fuel for the og characters to keep going.

I still think bringing back Wesker as the “main” villain was a mistake I liked every game having there own big bad villain as opposed to Wesker always lurking in the back.

14 : Anonymous2021/03/07 21:49 ID: gq569wo

No. The original characters are what make RE unique from other zombie games.

15 : Anonymous2021/03/08 11:36 ID: gq784eg

The problem here is they didn't expand organically. Look at what the MCU has done. They started with a core of characters, slowly introduced new ones, and now that old core is basically gone and the plan is to rely on all the new characters they introduced along the way.

If they had actually done things with Carlos, Sheva, Parker, or Billy they could have expanded it in a way that made sense while allowing the old characters to fade back.

16 : Anonymous2021/03/07 21:59 ID: gq57r66

The thing is, there's still so much room for exploring the existing characters. Maybe we'll get a game with Jill and Leon and find out they have feelings for one another, or a game with Claire and Rebecca where they hate each other but work together because they have to. Maybe Barry becomes a father figure to Ada, and we see a side of her we've never seen before. These are all the hypothetical scenarios we'll never experience if they keep giving us more Ethan games, or whichever young character they introduce next. If anything, I'd like to see more Jake and Sherry, or even Moira and Polly, than having them introduce new characters.

17 : Anonymous2021/03/07 22:02 ID: gq589fi

But why did they have to give him a stupid ass name like "Ethan". May as well be called "Keith".

ID: gq58evi

I mean... Barry is a pretty stupid name, doesn’t mean he’s not great
