I originally turned to indie games because as a student with no extra income I couldn't afford a new computer to run brand new games.
Now I can afford both, but I still prefer indie games, because they can't afford to compete on eyecandy aspect and instead need to compete on gameplay side of their games. I much prefer that over "same old game, but slightly prettier" way of too many AAA games.

I still play battlefield 4 regularly. That game is just incredible and is arguably better than any modern conventional FPS. Big beautiful maps with so much to do. Serious PTFO? Sure. Fuckery involving jihad jeeps or rpgs and helicopters? Why not. The game is just fantastic and maybe unsurprisingly, it still looks as good or better than modern games like COD or what have you.

Some people might assume it’s a waste of hardware playing older games with a new pc, but my old pc had trouble playing tons of 10+ year old games without bottoming out most settings graphic settings. Finally playing games I’ve loved for years, but had to play on low settings, on maxed out settings is fucking awesome.

The only kinda game I could run. I got a laptop almost a year ago and it could only run older titles. Coincidentally, that's when I started to gain interest in pc games rather than just emulating them. I've actually enjoyed playing older games like Halo ce and AC Brotherhood since they're the only ones I can run at decent framerates.

Yup, this is legit. First they didn't run good because I always had a run-down, discount past generation machine. Now I was finally able to splurge and have the latest and greatest and those old games still won't run good because the way they were written isn't too compatible with the latest and greatest hardware.

Yup. They can shove those price tags up their nose. Even now i rarely buy games on launch, with 90% of what is coming out i wait for it to drop to around 50% before i can justify buying a new game. And even then i have a massive backlog so like this i can atleast clean it up a bit. Just now finaly trying to beat Dark Souls again (got stuck on that dick artorias back on 360) and after that i already have demon souls waiting for me on my ps3 so sure put a 70$ on that new AC. Gonna pick it up for 10 in year.

The PC game I'm most excited about currently is a remake of a game that came out over 20 years ago.
In general, the games I'm most looking forward to this year are games on the Nintendo Switch, the most underpowered hardware on the market.
Judging by sales numbers, I'm not alone.
Take Two's CEO recently said he thinks gamers are ready for $70 games, and maybe he's right. After all, if you want to get a licensed sports game, EA and Take Two have carved out nice little monopolies where they can hold their captive audience over a barrel to pay through the nose for updated stats.
But I'm perfectly happy to keep playing the great games of yesteryear these guys still haven't managed to top, along with indie games that still manage to bring new ideas to the medium. Toss in some quality first-party console games, and why the fuck do I even need so-called "AAA" third-party games anymore?
Assassin's Creed? Pfft, I'll go back and play Black Flag again. Cyberpunk? Ha, funny joke guys, but you peaked at Witcher III. Call of Duty? Eh, I'm fine with CoD4, thanks. That's not to say nothing new is worthwhile... though of course, that's when companies even bother making anything new. The last half-decade has had so many "remastered" versions of already-released games, it truly feels like everyone's out of ideas.
Are gamers ready for $70 games? I'm sure if they're willing to do it, they've done the math and the drop in sales numbers will be more than made up by increased profits. But I won't be among them. And maybe eventually they'll lose enough customers that their brand will start to suffer. It may seem unlikely, but there was a time when we assumed we'd be getting half-hearted Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk games every year too...

Most of the new "AAA" games are just meaningless pieces of crap... "Throw some pretty graphics in there, and a million micro transactions, and f**k them... They'll buy it anyway". When games used to be offline and single player, they actually put some effort into giving you a decent and interesting story that you actually cared about and were intrigued by... Now they'll add battle royale even to solitaire and loot boxes to "personalize your experience" and call it a day...

Had to install GFWL and the game freezes like every hour because Bethesda has no shits to give about Windows 10 compatibility. I'm tempted to put my old Radeon HD 6850 and some RAM into an old office PC, pop Windows 7 on there and use it as old-but-not-quite-vintage-gaming PC.

First game both me and my roommate played for like a month after building our new PC'S back on December 2018 was FTL XD. We had just spent about each 2 grand and we where playing a 2D game lol.
My need to play list is too long for me to bother with new releases, really glad I out grew FOMO with media. It's a money saver for sure.

I just bought myself a new Xbox. Haven't gamed for years since my PC got fried.
Loaded up Witcher 3 immediately. Gonna finish that Blood and Wine DLC. The saves don't transfer so I needed to start from scratch, maybe that's even for the best.

Make that 20year old game. I am playing Halo remastered and its a blast. Some things is honestly not better tho. Mussle flashes++ is better in the old version(you can push tab and go back and forth to compare) And they made certain areas too bright so the mood is different.
