What happened in the last 5 years?

1 : Anonymous2021/03/08 00:32 ID: m03n11

Over the last 5 years, it seems like everything changed. Not just politically (please this isn't about Trump or political theatre). Its everyone. Including you.

Sometime over the last 5 years, we (english speaking people at least) have changed and we haven't noticed. Most of us - still aren't aware, but if you are reading this then you likely have noticed something wrong (or perhaps you have some heightened anxiety or stress hormones) that doesn't seem to be dependent on your life and living situation.

There is a pervasive layer that is being deposited onto everything, something akin to a collective desire to position oneself in ever increasingly beneficial networks despite the costs if we fail.

We have turned to speculative ventures rather than practical ventures. People NEED to monetize everything these days for some reason, but its so bad we are monetizing stuff that doesn't have any value and saying that somehow its what we have always done....NO we haven't. We made utility for the first dozen or so centuries of our recorded history or fought for survival - but now we artificially fight and compete over nothing.

We are being told that value is subjective and that the value is what we give it.... but if we value essentially nothing....we make our lives meaningless.

Over the last 5 years we have accelerated the mediocrity of society. Everyone is trying to make money from their mediocrity....everything is trying to become an influencer, but we are trading something we don't even know for it. We are trading our purpose.

2015 marked a shift. It was primarily a mix of the #MeToo movements, the failing and disolution of the Anomymous Hacker group, the mass proliferation of micro-payments and monetized digital opinion boards. OnlyFans and digital sex work became more prevalent, and in the same time we have watched real economic drivers get bought up wholesale for pennies on the dollar just to be turned in giant machines of corporate control in order to push us further into these recesses....

We are being fucked harder and faster than we are aware of, but its happening so quickly our nerves cannot keep up. We are being bombarded and the waves are overloading our circuits so just when we are about to do something, we get hit with something else and lose the motivation to continue.

We are being riled up, so we can explode in very useless ways. That is why we have seen the rise of suicides, the rise of lone gunman, the rise of sexual-depravity, the rise of speculative madness - not just in day traders anymore - everyone is becoming more obsessed.

We are being run by algorithms which are tweaking dials in our heads we didn't know we have, and we dont know how to turn back.

Thoughts? It was a rant, but I want to hear if people have their own insights into this manifestation.

EDIT -- There is a term I am struggling to remember, perhaps someone knows it. It describes a type of network effect on societys whereby a type of "societal ghost" forms in the network and this ghost starts to have its own type of consciousness (greater than any of ours - so we cannot fathom it) that collectively forms between the space of our consciousnesses. This ghost is the next level of survival programming and will evolve to ensure its proliferation and we are the effective cells of this ghost. I think we are seeing the formation of this ghost....We are presently influencing it, but soon, we will be swept up (perhaps we already are?)

EDIT -- The word is Zeitgeist

Smart phones and social media....that's what happened.

ID: gq5s53m

I think they helped, but even from 2007-2012 there was not as much of this "thing". There was still a positivity about it. Remember, you used to pay for apps on phones lol. And you used to share moments with your friends and actually play games on social media. It was not monetized yet in the same entitled way.

ID: gq60tfg

Agreed. Unplug. Go outside. Read more

It’s not everyone brah

ID: gq5yutp

Dude what. Smart phones and social media have been around since mid 2000s

you said so much but said so little in such a deep but simple way i like an agree

5 : Anonymous2021/03/08 01:42 ID: gq5xm7a

I turned 30 recently and feel closer to how I did at 15. Just full of piss and vinegar waiting to get out. It used to be dog-brained teachers and tough parenting that drove me to this state. Now it's the nanny state Mr. Government with his camera finger up my ass all day, and the media constantly screaming "don't eat that eat this, don't watch that watch this, don't listen to that public figure listen to this one."

Y'know what? Fuck you. Fuck your games, your money, your systems of degradation and squelching of individualism. I just want to grow my veggies, make dinner, smoke a doober, pet my cat, drink a few beers, and go to work.

Seriously, fuck the entire machine. It makes my asshole bite holes in my underpants just watching the media censorship crush the good content and suggest "fifteen reasons why Uber is better than Lyft." Fuck. You.

ID: gq5y5uf

I love your attitude - we need more of this "who fuckin' cares" about things that don't affect them, and this idea that we can regulate the world into a state of goodness....almost every problem we know is a cause of poorly thought our policies which eventually no longer work.

I too am getting tired of the world telling me I need to do this to do that....I remember that moment I understood 98% of people are full of shit and know no more than I about things...but we have this perverse authority fetish in our culture to prostrate ourselves out and bow down to titles and labels....now we sue over them....and next we will put them up for auction as NFTs.....

Terence McKenna - The Message

IDK about you but it has been a totally wild ride at this point. I have learned more than I ever would have believed possible. And I just keep sponging it up. I think it has slowed a little because for the first time in what feels like ages I was shocked by this bizarre feeling about 1 1/2 weeks ago that I recognized but couldn't recall what it was...and then I realized what it was.

I felt happy.

It had been so long since I felt that feeling that I didn't even recognize it at first. Or IDK maybe I was so shocked by the non-stop assault on reality, my senses, the things I 'knew' which were all torn down when confronted with other conflicting data, and I think I simply didn't have time to feel it anymore due to the non-stop challenges and learning curve.

I have felt glimmers of happiness in little fits and starts over the last 1 1/2 weeks. But I don't feel like I really belong in the world I grew up in, in any sense of the word since my paradigm has shifted so vastly that I sort of despise what 'is' now as incompatible with my own sensibilities or the greater reality.

ID: gq5u13h

I always like listening to McKenna. I wish there was more long format stuff and less sound bites. Everytime I listen to these videos, its always the same sentences lol. Talk about a loop. 😛

7 : Anonymous2021/03/08 00:36 ID: gq5qf1c

The absurdity of the work/anti work dichotomy and the fact that people are literally making more than the average 9-5 in one month creating useless digital content marketed as entertainment, or digital currency with equally absurd ROI despite relatively no utility in terms of purchasing power, etc

ID: gq5qydp

I agree wholeheartedly. Its this weird mindset (we all have it) -- that says -- Well, OBVIOUSLY, not everyone could do this, BUT if I DO IT, then I can provide a service to my fellow people and they can do the Grunt work... I am an artist, or my opinions matter, others can farm the food.

Then we all collectively stop farming and wonder why our world fucked up with the Viral dreams of being useless to society. lol

We need to give purpose back to work. Not try to erase it.

ID: gq6dqca

You are spot on, but it also goes deeper than that.

Money and the creation of value used to be more... concrete.

I give you labor, you give me a paycheck.

You give me service or good, I give you payment.

The entire monetary system is becoming more and more and more abstract. As it becomes more abstract, money makers like governments and banks are learning to build and execute higher level abstraction games on the back of the economic system to create Money that is not actually backed by labor or value.

China is basically taking over the world on a wholly manufactured and centrally controlled economic system via cooked numbers and currency manipulation.

The US - after decades and decades of uncontrolled spending, insane deficits, insane debts - is reaching the point where 'eh, system has not imploded yet, MONEY PRINTER GO BRRRRRRRR'.

There is no such thing as try and fail anymore.

Its all bailouts, and stimulus, and money printing, and interest rate manipulation, and market speculation.

It's like the entire global human consciousness is collectively awakening to a new economic Meta where the numbers are just created out of thin air.

ID: gq5yc4c

I can go bust my ass for pittance, while some snobby limp-wristed pale fuck with a nose ring and smelly flipflops tells me why my brand of clothing is oppressive for $115k a year. Or some dumb fuck who only knows how to throw a ball straight makes $25 MILLION a year. Then people expect me to sop over the cunt while he explains to me how my country is racist while simultaneously taking advantage of the money he's provided, especially from the money provided by China. You know what they think of you, Mr. Blackguy Footballerman? They think you're a novelty. If you were in China they'd hand you a broom and dust pan and call you all kinds of ni**ers in square speak and pay you fifteen cents a day. That's when they aren't cutting your kidneys out to give to the next highest bidder because you decided a Koran should be in your desk drawer.

8 : Anonymous2021/03/08 00:40 ID: gq5qx3l

Last 5 years have shown that it's easy to control and manipulates masses on the global scale.

ID: gq5z340

Yes, but I fear it never ends now. Its got momentum, so it needs to be guided otherwise we will crash into a wall sometime in the future.

10 : Anonymous2021/03/08 02:51 ID: gq652e2

I agree. There is a unmentioned layer of impeding doom that we all subconsciously feel but don’t actively acknowledge. As is we know the ship is going down and were all rushing to make the most “value” out of anything we currently have in order to sustain us after “it” happens. What is “it“? Economic crash where the dollar collapses? BIGGER virus? EMP? Meteor? Aliens? We don’t know what it is but we all can kinda “sense“ it. Easiest way to see this is the crypto boom going on right now. More and more people are putting some of their net worth into it because we see the writing on the wall with the dollar. On top of this, throw in the clown show that is the govt and people in power. Nothing they do is benefiting us, we all see it now and the disdain for them is growing more and more. They’re a joke and they’re hardly managing to keep things in order. Its like pro wrestling where the booking is terrible and it completely takes you out of the story. We all know wrestling is fake but as long as its good then we will go along with it. When it sucks then we start questioning “why” were doing this. Additionally, social media and tech has made us dumber than ever. We focus on garbage that satisfies are most basic of urges.

ID: gq65d89

So true. I especially agree with your statement about the "show being good we tolerate it" -- lately - the show sucks..... I am standing up in the audience throwing popcorn at the screen and looking for the exit and I think many people are too.

11 : Anonymous2021/03/08 02:01 ID: gq5zn1f

I agree with you I've been trying to convince my family to delete the majority of their social media apps and keep only ones necessary for contact with friends and eachother. I noticed what it was doing to people and it freaks me out.

ID: gq60oqy

same. I have started moving to private data stores. Offline personal clouds. Alternative platforms - federated services. Google is the monster that chases you everywhere....Facebook is tough because of the logins.....

12 : Anonymous2021/03/08 01:23 ID: gq5vj76

It’s cultural psychosis. How many people, in the west, in their 20’s, 30’s or 40’s do you think want to have families? I’d wager not many.

There seems 0 point in creating new generations anymore IMO because we have no direction as a civilization.

In previous times people believed in God and country and duty. All of that is gone.

You may argue that individuals can find reasons to live but individuals with niche outlooks do not make a society function or bring a greater purpose to the civilization as a whole.

The only things we are promised are Ill heath and trans humanism along with unending restrictions on speech and activities.

We reached the conclusion of human civilization and human purpose. Shit isn’t it. This is what generations of humans slaved and fought each other for..this.

Ah well, at least it was a distraction whilst it lasted.

ID: gq5vs2l

Interesting - your post made me think of something....You know how people talk about the singularity (which is effectively the end point of the individual's impact on human civilization) - What instead of the creation of a singularity ---- its actually a dissolution of our societal identity (ie. the soul of our civilization is dying...)

13 : Anonymous2021/03/08 04:18 ID: gq6dz8t

whats happening is the shift from duality- into unity consciousness, this process brings with it the exposure of all our individual as well as collective shadows (henc the increasse in bullshit lately).

our trajectory is clear: separation into oneness - darkness into light!

the fact that the world looks anything but bright is just the nature of this shift that requires as i said the recognition and transmutation of all shadows. we are in the dark night of our collective soul and this is just the darkes hour before the dawn!

soon this whole shitshow will blow up and from its ashes a new society will be born!

ID: gq6f1bb

I sure hope so. I like your optimism. I hope it comes with a new found sense of purpose myself. I think if we can somehow find our humanity again we will be primed for the stars.

14 : Anonymous2021/03/08 00:39 ID: gq5qs6t

NFTs seem to be a perfect for for dumb shit that is being monetized. I’m hoppin on the train!

ID: gq5rbsa

Yes, the dream is real. Change your life and transform yourself into a better you. Everyone wants the magic pill.....we end up feeding the LORD OF THE MANSION who happens to be the only person important enough to sell anything of worth in the first place....so you buy from the "approved" vendors to get that "Authentic shit" - You know... the real jack dorsey tweet, bro" . lol

15 : Anonymous2021/03/08 02:39 ID: gq63rj2

Spot on, even as you define the edges of something you can't name or even clearly describe.

Having pondered your subject for many years, I now find myself at the mercy of a diminished mind due to a certain bio-weapon recently let loose on us all, which heartbreakingly proves and adds to your sense of the onset of end-game human madness, and so ironically I can not come close to a viable discussion of this anymore.

ID: gq647o3

Madness may be the best tool at our disposal for describing that without a name. It's like a hot iron that can be bent around difficult shapes which would crack under normal temperature

16 : Anonymous2021/03/08 04:25 ID: gq6enuh

Government hacked and somebody got them by the balls

ID: gq6eve5

Possibly. Ransomware is not super valuable in the long run, so you are right. If you want to have real control (ie. State control) you need to leverage in the future. Not just screw up the present.

Reddit stopped posting the warrant canary, and they switched up their upvote algorithm. The US military also most likely took over (i.e. Mockingbird) to subvert this websites influence and divide its audience. (Left vs right, gay/trans vs straight, black vs white, dems vs reps, trump vs biden.) This is just my opinion. God forbid this country unite and create change, right?

ID: gq6jhwx

Sorry, what is the warrant Canary? I am not familiar with that. Did they mentioned when they received warrant requests?

Thank you! I’ve been looking for the words for how I felt and this is it. But maybe getting words for my feelings from strangers on the Internet is part of the problem?

20 : Anonymous2021/03/08 00:54 ID: gq5sfc4

Everything you described is worshipping worldly things, and who said not to worship worldly things? JESUS!

We are being primed for the antichrist. One can either follow western society and its chaos and depression is brings or God's law and word.

There is a way out but it seems more and more people are worried of not 'fitting in' so they turn their backs on God and his laws and you have what you are talking about.

ID: gq5uq1g

I agree that we need a spiritual portion of the solution. I am not sure if christianity is the way myself, but I agree we need something intangible to be the yin to the physical yang. I like the idea of all pantheism, but ultimately, if it brings purpose than awesome, but for me that isn't helping. Its something, that needs to be supported wholely in life. It cannot be patch - which for me - all religions are. I try to read all of them for their insights, but none have given me the experiences I have sought. The few real experiences I have had - I have found no adequate explanation for yet lol.

ID: gq5vzh6

Jesus loved sucking cock though and feeling a warm load down his throat while Mary Magdalene pegged him. If that isn't a worldly pleasure I don't know what is.

23 : Anonymous2021/03/08 01:26 ID: gq5vsu9

I think the exact opposite. Evolution of American culture hit a road block around 2000. Compare and contrast cultural changes from 2020 to 2000 (fashion, car looks, movies, music etc) with 1980 to 2000.

ID: gq5wu5n

I think the shift may have started as early as the 80's, and definitely by the mid 90's was in full swing, but the technologies being employed weren't sofisticated enough to target the masses to the level they have now. Its like with TV you couldn't control if someone was watching the same shows, radio was good, but you had different channels. Online at first, seemed like a blow to them, so with the consolidation of power (which took a long time online in the first couple decades) is now something you can buy if you have enough power. So I think what we saw was a resurgence of individuality which was then quickly reigned in by the powers that be - and there was a shift of power (old power did not completely survive the shift and new players came in) but these players were all vulnerable to handouts....which almost all of them have taken gladly (in the name of good of course lol) -- this is why I think we did get a great period of online freedom, but the real freedom didn't change much - its always been wall street, the banks, and the media and government broadcasting corporations. Online didn't have the economic drivers it now has everywhere (partially because it was hard and very controlled but not yet accessible) - but once everything was about making money online - "engagement" and other such algorithmic drivers...the machine was born.

24 : Anonymous2021/03/08 02:23 ID: gq62181

I’m not kidding, something absolutely changed when the Cubs won the World Series, going on 5 years ago in November 2016. Trump also elected November 2016. Lightning don’t strike twice.

ID: gq62a9x

I am not going to lie.....The 2016 elections did feel like the end of normalcy.....pop culture had aneurism and the stroke hasnt finished playing out yet....

25 : Anonymous2021/03/08 03:51 ID: gq6bafv

I feel like this gets posted once a week.

ID: gq6dd6z

Well that is because there isn't a sticky post..... Additionally because it's perhaps true.....the problem is with this conspiracy is that it could be a side effect of our society. It could be evolutionary, it could be satanic, it could be political, it could be financial, it could something completely beyond our understanding or otherworldly. But the point remains. Something is off......people aren't happy once they wake up.

It's not paradise in this side of the fence and there is no deal with the agents to go back into the matrix, so what do you do. Is this a problem we can identify.

Is there a rabbit hole of purpose we can fall into. Posting something and getting no further is a type of madness except that each Person brings a new perspective that could further the discussion for the whole. So apologies big this is old hat. But it seems to be a problem for me and many others still. And I don't think it's because I. Failing my part.... I am pretty sure it's the system in some way is crooked....I have always felt that because it's not the good people who succeed and everyone knows that.

26 : Anonymous2021/03/08 03:53 ID: gq6biuo

You know what changed with me? I realized that we could all be wrong. About everything.

I still enjoy a good conspiracy though.

ID: gq6cvk0

That's pretty much the only thing that can be assured. Hence why mystery and conspiracy are a part of human nature imo. But it's also why it's weird that we go around demanding that government and bigger groups can somehow make these great policies....it's strange because we give it the credence of science but none of the rigours

27 : Anonymous2021/03/08 04:21 ID: gq6ebdy

Exactly my thoughts ever since i woke up to everything happening. It's scary how it feels like everyone is just plugged into a computer.

I am so glad I'm not a little kid growing up in this right now. Kids can't even do simple things like watch sports without some type of indoctrination. And now kids are all on iPhones and iPads getting subjected to all kinds of shit (especially porn).

But it makes me scared to think of when I want to have kids. I hope that when I do, I can really be a good parent and make them realize that the messages this world is pushing is NOT for the better of people.

Because it's only getting worse--rapidly.

ID: gq6eq0q

It truly has reached a lev of mass programming. It's funny because when people are asked to think of it. Most laugh and joke that they are being programmed, but the truth is we are. As a programmer myself (software) I have learned how sutble changes in design evoke massive swings in outcome. Colours can evoke emotions, slight glitches cause anger and irritation....most people think bugs aren't introduced....I know that sometimes they are....to cover up bigger bugs or issues with human nature. So you patch it with bugs to make them not do something you haven't solve yet.

28 : Anonymous2021/03/08 06:09 ID: gq6nh26

The internet got taken over by government and bad actors, the media, and big tech sold out to them all

I think it's that simple

The internet is the world nowadays, control it and you control the world

Sadly the people who have strangled it with an iron grip over the past few years are some of the worst people on Earth, and they have no issue making all of our lives worse so they can feel powerful

ID: gq6op0c

But isn't it strange that it affects everyone so powerfully....I mean. It seems like if it's that case, is there a system being used. Is it a long term effect? Does it require lots of manpower to do? Or is it require the conspiracy of the entire network to pull it off?

Is it being directed or has it been unleashed or did it grow beyond our control?

29 : Anonymous2021/03/08 06:12 ID: gq6np0c

31 : Anonymous2021/03/08 07:26 ID: gq6stzd

World peak oil production was reached around 2008. The standard hubbert oil curve supported by hydro fracking carried us to about 2012 to 2014. Around 2016 to 2018 the slow decline of energy production started.

Match those dates to economic events: 2008 was the Great Recession, 2012 European Central Bank crashed, 2016 was when quantitative easing easing went off the rails and the total debt exceeded GDP

We are on the edge of the petro dollar losing its status as the world reserve currency then you will see some serious shit

We have a lost decade for most people who didn’t see their lives improve or grow their savings. When inflation hits that’s going to be a bitch to get out of while you make $15 an hour as an Uber driver

32 : Anonymous2021/03/08 07:34 ID: gq6tcqf

Nfts?

33 : Anonymous2021/03/08 07:47 ID: gq6u7ex

Yes, we are being taught to be subjective. I dream of the day that I no longer need my computer and mobile phone

34 : Anonymous2021/03/08 07:58 ID: gq6uvgm

I agree. For me I feel like I know what has gotten to me the most and I’ve only figured it out recently. The information overload, excessive communication, always being connected. Every day life is hectic as it is w/ work, school, appointments, kids, traffic, household chores, etc. We all have our personal problems on top of everything else. Now we are in a time where you can have 6 conversations going on at one time thanks fo texting, the media just runs 24 hour loops of information, and then there’s emails, notifications, etc constantly popping up whether it be on our phones, computers, or both. I feel like it’s just too much for our minds to deal with all the time. It’s like our attention is being drawn from so many different directions all the time. I’ve tried to turn my notifications off on weekends and even not respond to texts and calls just to clear my head. It definitely helps but at the same time I almost feel a sense of anxiety because my brain won’t even allow itself to rest. You always hear people say that life was better when things were simpler and I think there’s some truth to it. There’s no way people can live an entire lifetime like this. I feel for the younger generations b/c I can’t imagine not knowing anything other than constant chaos.

American thinking is very short term most of the time

I suspect the same is true of a lot of liberal democracies now.

36 : Anonymous2021/03/08 08:51 ID: gq6y84l

Mate it has been declining rapidly since the GFC in 2008. That is really a point where you can say all western culture, entertainment etc started coming under attack.

37 : Anonymous2021/03/08 09:09 ID: gq6z99k

People NEED to monetize everything these days for some reason

It's always been like that. The internet, smart phones, and social media turned consumption up to 10,000 percent, and capitalism, disinformation, manipulation is simply following suit. Same as when radio/TV were invented. New opportunities abound being taken advantage of at a breakneck pace.

If there's a dollar to squeeze out of someone, or a way to manipulate the information they are receiving, it will happen faster than you can blink. It's innate in humans.

You are witnessing the end of The American Century. It will be studied and talked about for thousands of years, like Rome. And next is the long slow decline, to be replaced by other power centres, notably China retaking its place at the forefront of human civilization.

41 : Anonymous2021/03/08 11:19 ID: gq76zbh

Thoughts? It was a rant, but I want to hear if people have their own insights into this manifestation.

Pretty spot on rant, brother. It's painful watching it all go to shit while everyone plays along oblivious. Whatever, in the end we can take solace in knowing we were smart enough to see the truth.
