It’s too often the case that good WSIB requests just get buried and ignored in new, but the requests that reach hot get over-saturated with hundreds of suggestions (90% of which, OP probably won’t end up playing).
It would be very useful if a lot more people sorted by new so that there’s more of a balance between posts being ignored and posts being suggestion bombed.

I've noticed the sub has this weird phenomenon where every day there'll be 1 or 2 posts that just get tonnes of upvotes compared to others, even if they aren't that special or popular (Today it's Doom Eternal, yesterday it was AC Valhalla / Odyssey). Guessing it's just the algorithm at work, but yeah, I agree with what OP is saying here. Sort by new more often, usually you'll find the last 24 hours covered in the first 3 pages anyway.

If a post has too many comments then I just move on and try and help the next person 🙂

i pretty much always sort by new in this sub
-
Yup.. and because of that we will keep seeing the repeat game that people ask over and over again like Witcher 3, stardew valley, Divinity:OS2, God of War, RDR2, etc. By now i’m sure if anyone searched within the sub with those games you’ll already have the answer without having to ask yet again.

ID: gq65gymOn top of this, there should be a pinned post that has a list of the top suggestions per genre.

Tons of people sort by new. That’s how posts reach hot anyways, but even if more people sort by new, it won’t exactly help. People seem to only reply to posts with popular games or games they’ve played, which makes sense, but a lot of new posts don’t get responses because they are random unknown games. If I were to make a post asking whether I should buy two random games. Let’s say for example (I just randomly found two games), “SIB American Fugitive or Among the Sleep”. Even if my post is really really well written, there is a very very slim chance it will reach hot. But the games that everyone knows is good reach hot much more frequently. For example, The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption, Ghost of Tsushima and others frequently reach hot. It’s the sad truth of this subreddit. Everyone know that a game like The Witcher 3 is probably an amazing game for most, but the unknown games which people don’t know are good, get ignored.
ID: gq707b0I think they're ignored due to the fact that not many people have played them. I only reply to games I've played (why would I give an opinion on smth I don't know?), but they're usually the popular ones that are frequently asked.

I swear to god if I see one more “SIB Hollow Knight”. Just search for the game in the sub! There’s a new post in Hot for it every week it feels like

Also 90% of the top voted posts are the ones that everyone's got "an autocomplete answer".

I always sort by new in subs like this. Sorting by hot is just looking at answers.
ID: gq6lp2qwhich sometimes is what you wanna do. sometimes ill find someone asking for something and i realize they have similar tastes to me, so its nice to have several answers. or in /
, i find it much more fun to read answers then share my own -
I always forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me to sort by new.

"SIB insert game that is an obvious must buy"
instant 100K upvotes and 10 awards.

Good point, take my upvote

OP of yesterday's Doom Eternal post here. I would encourage everyone not just to sort by new but to read the whole post and give a more detailed answer than "yes/no" and the additional "loved/hated the game", especially if they're commenting on popular posts. For example, I was rather asking a few questions about the game than asking if I should buy it or not. The first 40-50 comments were answering my questions (some of them were really detailed, many thanks for that), but then comments as simple as a yes started to flood in. As much as I appreciate every input (like I stated in my post), people should aim to give more detailed answers. The 50th yes won't reassure me, but a few things others have not mentioned may change my mind. Also, please read post flairs.

Definitely the algorithm, once it fills certain requirements (upvotes/comments per time) it’ll be pushed to people’s home pages or even something like
