- Wife said we needed a coffee table. So I built a coffee table. A gaming coffee table.

The rug is what makes the best part
ID: gqp2s63ID: gqp5zpmGives the home a welcoming atmosphere
ID: gqpp40xShut the fuck up Donny!
ID: gqpb56rNice marmot
ID: gqpkitjThat rug will never die. Even in 1000 years it'll just be space themed but exactly the same besides
ID: gqpll3aEven the aliens are going to put that in the museum
ID: gqptadyThe rugby on the TV is the best part
-
Suddenly I understand why people freak out about coasters...
ID: gqp8vv8Even on normal tables or desks they're just nice to have to prevent stains.
ID: gqpjuwjYep, even with a quality clear coat, water rings can happen when temperature and humidity conditions are just right. And those rings are rarely able to be pulled out of the finish.
-
Nicely done! How are you getting power to it?
ID: gqp9v7gYep the cord goes down the inside of the one leg and once i remove the play rug i will put it in the grout between the tiles. Still testing out the best positions before i fix everything down.
ID: gqpat6cIn the grout between tiles? That’s commitment...
ID: gqpgqlzSo you plan on removing grout and then grouting back over the cord in the groove? God help you
ID: gqpopb3Wait, is the table going to be immovable once you do that?
I can’t imagine having a coffee table that doesn’t move, haha
ID: gqpsd8zIf you're going to burn your house down anyway, how about live to one leg and ground to the diagonal opposite with metal contact plates. They'd be far enough apart you'd never short it unless you really tried. You could add a UPS in the table to deal with any momentary disconnects.
ID: gqpba72I wonder, if you just put a tiny slit in the play rug (or the subsequent rug you bring to replace it, you can run it as a tiny bump under the carpet and under the couch?
ETA: Very nice, btw.
ID: gqppb69That sounds like a terrible idea
ID: gqp7ccyLooks like a cord is off to the left of it.
-
Hope nobody spills a drink on it
ID: gqpagb7If you make the top larger than the frame it should spill off to the side and have minimal drippage inside
-
Love the carpet
ID: gqp2pjpHahaha yeah once you have toddlers that becomes standard. Probably gonna have to move it now to one of the kids' rooms.
ID: gqp6fgiNo, I believe it fits the room perfectly. The toddlers can have a copy.
-
How do you manage the weight imbalance?
ID: gqpabifUse 2x 120nm gas stays on either side and a piano hinge. If i did it again i would import 4x 60 nm torque hinges instead its more than enough to keep it up and stable.
ID: gqpdfuvI think he meant: how do you prevent the entire thing from toppling over backwards when someone so much as breathes on it?
Did you somehow secure the legs to the floor?
-
I would - and this is just me - see about adding a vent grate right under where the console will be.
There’s gonna be a lot of heat in there when you close it.
And I’m looking out for the TV mainly.
Unless they can withstand the heat. I’m wrong a lot
ID: gqp9kbuIn fact i was thinkin of installing a pc fan in the floor for extraction but since the tv and ps will obviously be off when the lid is closed i didnt think it will be a problem. Was thinking of checking how it goes and then decide from there!
ID: gqpb9dzWell, you’d expect them to be off when it’s closed... but with kids, it may not be. Mine seem to leave things on all the time. We’re still working on it.
Unless you want to introduce a power switch when the lid closes to guarantee it.
-
Kid : slams the table
-
Now I want to get one of those mats again.
-
and then watched rugby on it fuck yeah
-
This is a really nice "look I did it" kind of thing, but really impractical.
Do you wanna drink or eat while gaming? Well you can't.
Also, tv is kinda low.
ID: gqpo3gyI have smaller side tables between the couches exactly for that even before the coffee table. You make a good point with the lowness. Even though my couch is lower than normal I would've liked to use longer legs to get it eye height while sitting up straight. Lying back on the couch putting my feet on the table its actually okay. But the idea is still on the table (or under if you will).
ID: gqpn43sAlso be very careful what you put in the table cause you are going to crack that screen
ID: gqpsb13I actually measured and marked how deep the tv goes in. Routed it in. Have exactly 11cm space so nothing more than 10cm just in case. Not sure if a ps5 will fit though.

Gameboy Advance TB (Table)
-
How much for the rug? Oh, the desk is nice too
-
I've been looking for a coffee table for months. Now I can't buy any other coffee table after seeing this.
(Seriously, get a patent and sell this)
ID: gqpb0nuHahaha nah Im happy if the idea gets out there. This was basically my first venture into something like this. Started with googling tv hidden in coffee table and went from there. I think there is guys out there who can build something even cooler! Like using a motor to open and close it, adding in a gaming pc etc.
-
My mans with rugby on too!
-
Won’t that damage the pixels in the tv by laying face down?
-
Shut up and take my money!
-
Used to have same carpet for driving cars on
-
I need this in my life. Well done kind stranger!
-
Genius
-
Well played Sir....well played.

It really ties the room together.
