Does anyone else think that the title of the new movie just sounds… bad?

I mean... "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City" just sounds like a fan film imo. Don't get me wrong, after reading about the cast I'm actually pretty excited about this but the title just seems a bit off to me... It doesn't really sound like horror (which the director has promised it will be) and it's too long. I would've been fine with just plain "Resident Evil" tbh.

The good news is that the title means nothing regarding the quality of the movie. It's still a videogame movie though, so my expectations are very low.

There's no point getting excited for this, it's a video game movie. The directors can never leave the project alone, they always have to fuck with it with their terrible ideas and they always suck. The only video game movies to be good were the original mortal kombat (which is a seriously low bar) and sonic the hedgehog (because the source material is so bad that a departure from it was good).

It's gonna be a dumpster fire, they always are. Especially resident evil.

The bad news is the director is a hack with a filmography of trash.

ID: grpd4la

That's rough. It's always possible he pulls it off, but everything is pointing to another crappy videogame movie.

I'm still gonna watch it simply because it's a RE movie and because I liked Ghost from Ant-man 2.

The Strangers Prey at Night is awesome, haven't seen his other work though.

Wait. Is it official ? The name I mean.

Should've been called Biohazard

Only in a perfect world

5 : Anonymous2021/03/21 13:07 ID: grp46vh

Why not Resident Evil : Racoon City , lol as simple as it is

ID: grp4q1p

Hell, even a simple "Raccoon City" would've sufficed since the name and location is synonymous with Resident Evil.

6 : Anonymous2021/03/21 12:08 ID: groz59e

It should have just been called "Resident Evil".

7 : Anonymous2021/03/21 13:04 ID: grp3www

Wow that's lame. The movie pretty much has to be a masterpiece to make up for that lol

8 : Anonymous2021/03/21 11:34 ID: growmz7

Its very long.

9 : Anonymous2021/03/21 16:17 ID: grpoxbg

I would've been fine with just plain "Resident Evil" tbh.

The thing is there are already SIX films named Resident Evil so I understand why they didn't do that.

I'm optimistic it's going to be a goofy schlocky action movie, which is about the best we could hope for. Can't be worse than the later entries into the film series.

I hope you're right...

What's the point of being pessimistic? You're just worrying about something that you have absolutely no control over.

ID: grq16se

Yeah I also think there may be some legal hurdles to get over. Like when they redid the Predator Franchise they could never use Predator. It was "Predators" and "The Predator"

Please make a new timeline where the whole alice shit was just a dream.

ID: grp6mnp

Luckily this movie will have nothing to do with it.

ID: grp6qlb

That's good news, man!

11 : Anonymous2021/03/21 13:30 ID: grp68dd

That is indeed a bad name.

12 : Anonymous2021/03/21 14:06 ID: grp9n01

There's a new movie? Is this a live adaptation again?

ID: grp9ytr

ID: grpa3tn

Will it star Mila Jojovich again?

13 : Anonymous2021/03/21 12:56 ID: grp36x5

The title doesn't ruin anything for me. It's probably one of the least important things. With that said yeah. Welcome to Raccoon city is a dumb name. I would have gone with "Resident Evil: Zombies explosions and babes" so it sounds more serious.

14 : Anonymous2021/03/21 15:39 ID: grpk7ow

They are going to destroy the games lore Just a film can't have the whole story of a game but using the story of TWO games in one film?? Not going to work without taking out a lot of good things

15 : Anonymous2021/03/21 12:48 ID: grp2hx2

I’m really not looking forward to this one, mainly because of the casting but the title was another nail in the coffin. But I’m very much hoping to be proven wrong.

ID: grpbi7h

What about the casting is so bad?

ID: grpegn4

They cast some people of color to play some characters that are white in the games and people have not been able to move on from that.

ID: grqtevj

It’s really just the Leon and Wesker casting for me, everything else I can live with

16 : Anonymous2021/03/21 16:22 ID: grppjd1

The title really isn’t that bad and honestly not that long

17 : Anonymous2021/03/21 13:43 ID: grp7gji

Yeah, their marketing team is about to be sacked

18 : Anonymous2021/03/21 13:18 ID: grp54uq

The title is like this so it appeals to the masses who aren't fans of the franchise and to introduce people to it.

ID: grp56we

I guess... Still doesn't make it good.

ID: grp5dtu

Not to us fans no. But it's a good title to discover this film, people will be curious about it.

19 : Anonymous2021/03/21 15:55 ID: grpm58x

I didn’t know it would get a lot of flack lol I love the title really incapsulates the early RE games for me.

20 : Anonymous2021/03/21 17:05 ID: grpv3ag

Yeah it kind of sounds bleh should have just been called raccoon city. But whatever.

21 : Anonymous2021/03/21 22:38 ID: grqzftd

It sounds fine. I would have probably went with a shorter title, but the title is not bad and would have nothing to do with the quality of the movie. My guess is that one of the characters says that to another character in the movie, either sincerely (early on), or sarcastically later in the movie after the craziness begins. I can see it being used in the trailer followed by scenes of zombies, monsters, and the city in mayhem.

22 : Anonymous2021/03/21 20:38 ID: grql2t7

No, the title is fine. The rest isn't.
