- I can't believe the PS4 came out in 2013. It still feels brand new to me.

If Psycho Mantis can't fuck with it. I don't want it.

I still cannot process that PS3 was literally 2 gens ago. Only a matter of time that gen will be called "retro".
ID: gt72u3hPS3 is retro
Current gen
Last Gen
Retro..
Edit: Wikipedia describes Retro style as “a style that is consciously derivative or imitative of trends, modes, fashions, or attitudes of the recent past. It generally implies a vintage of at least fifteen or twenty years.
Sorry to burst your bubbles.
ID: gt7mf7eHonestly, I see it differently, I see it more as current gen, last gen, some weird gray area, then retro
Reason being is that games from the 7th gen are basically modern games, you could go and play them and nothing would seem too outdated, 6th gen has lots of great classics, but doesn't have the feel of retro with one exception. I see anything as Dreamcast and earlier as retro, reason being is that Dreamcast has a lot of games from 5th gen and is from Sega and all Sega consoles have that retro quality, seriously, Sega consoles are the shit.
But the real thing that I use to determine if something is retro is weather or not you could simply hand someone a controller for that console, and they would not be adverse to it. Mario 64 takes some getting used to, the Dreamcast controller takes getting used to. Any 2d pad takes getting used to.
You could say that I'm biased having grown up in the tail end of the 6th gen and through most of the 7th gen. But I'm basing my judgement on owning lots of systems and what my friends reactions are to me letting them try NiGHTS, sonic adventure and mario kart double dash. They picked double dash right up, but NiGHTS and sonic adventure took a lot longer for them to get used to.
Honestly though, the definition of what us retro is not super clear, from one point of view, it's based on age of the system, another point if view is graphics, my point if view is game design and controller design are what makes a system retro or not.
ID: gt6sgo3I can't believe that the GameCube is considered retro. Too bad it's not getting the same treatment as other retro consoles.
ID: gt6suzpWell the cube was pretty niche for its gen. Sure, it was more powerful than PS2 but lacks the library of it. However there are too many great exclusives there, and their prices are steep rn but I utterly respect the system for its graphical marvels.
ID: gt70323How is it not getting the same treatment? People love the Gamecube so much prices are going crazy high for everything Gamecube the past couple years.
ID: gt78zwdIf you go by the Retronauts definition (10 years), the PS3 is retro

I feel lucky in a way that I didn't get a PS4 until the slim model came out, because I legitimately have such a large backlog of great games to play for it that I have no real desire to even get a PS5 anytime remotely soon. Not to mention there are lots of AAA titles I'll be able to get for very cheap that I never had the chance to play.
This wouldn't be the case if this were college age me, but I'm an almost thirty year old boomer and I can't play video games at the rate I used to.
ID: gt6qmb2We prefer to be called millennial falcons, tyvm.
ID: gt71idoYo what we doin now?
ID: gt6yyzcBought a PS5 because the PS4 sounded like Heathrow Terminal 4 and my friends were sick of hearing it on chat. Otherwise, I would’ve stuck with the PS4 as I still haven’t even got round to Last of Us or God of war. RDR2 took me like 6 months alone!
ID: gt6wswyI’ve never owned a PlayStation before I got my PS5 while my brother has owned a PS4 for years. It’s been amazing working my way through all the games he’s purchased finally, especially the console exclusives like GoW and HZD
ID: gt7jbeyHorizon is on steam actually I just bought it for 26$ cdn. Can't play it on my current card though because I'm still waiting for my stupid 3080 to arrive.
ID: gt6xl75It’s gonna be 2-3 years till there’s enough games to really enjoy the ps5 fully
ID: gt7icayAt least it’s backwards compatible so you can work on that backlog while you wait.
-
Yeah I missed the entirety of the PS3 generation because I was poor and in high school so I wasn’t able to afford it all. Didn’t get a PS4 until the end of 2019 and got a PS5 as a gift like 3 weeks after it dropped. I feel like I’m making up for so much lost time since the last games I owned in PS2 were Guitar Hero and San Andreas. To me, it feels like the PS3 and PS4 generations were almost melded together.

Huh.. I thought it was gray and you put disc's in the top?
ID: gt6n7w4That was 15 years ago
ID: gt6tivoMore like 23-24 years ago.
ID: gt6secoNope, 15 years ago you had to blow in them first.
-
too many of these "this is what x actually was y years ago" shits coming out lately
ID: gt6r7b9Time flies man, especially nowadays - due to everyone being inside and all
ID: gt6sl38That looks like the general consensus- but I don't know if I have to go to the office work regularly (like there isn't a pandemic), from March 2020 to March 2021 was such a drag. Surprised how many people who stayed inside during this period can call it as "flies by".
ID: gt6xzy6"Is it just me or does anyone else think that time passes?"
ID: gt7sqmlI just can’t stand these posts.
“What you think ‘insert game’ was 6 years ago: (pic of game from 1992)”
Nobody thinks that. The PS2 came out in 2000. Are these people posting this 10 years old? That’s the only explanation I have for someone feeling like 8 years is a lifetime. It’s not unless you are a child.
ID: gt7e1smI know. I feel like the nostalgia shit is starting to go out big time. People are getting sick of it, the last 5 years have been nothing in pop culture but nostalgia grabs
ID: gt6stdoYeah, we get it. Milennials are beginning to age. But this bandwagon is seriously fucking stupid.
-
Wrong. The PS4 slim came out in 2016 so it didn’t look like that 8 years ago.
ID: gt7tcarGuys guys this feels like a lot of work to roast my fat ps4 let’s all just chill and be horrified by the passage of time
-
It is brand new to me, I finally just got a PS4 (pro) at Christmas! I'll wait for the inevitable pro version of the PS5
-
I remember the day I committed to buying a PS4. It was the Perfect Day advertisement and I bought it while living at my old apartment. First thing I played on it was Bioshock Infinite using the online system. PS3, I received right before going to get my Master's degree, had it in my old dorm. PS2, purchased around 2000 as I was going through my bachelors by my mom, who gave me FF10 and I obsessed over. PS1, with FF7, mid-90s. We took the game back to Best Buy two days later because it stopped working. I'd overheated the disc somehow from playing for 48 hours straight.
ID: gt71wwyI was there for the ps1 and ff7. That and Gran Turismo and metal gear solid. Oh and nhl 2000 was the bomb. Never forget those days. I didn’t get another system until Xbox 360
-
This hurt.
-
I didn’t upgrade from my ps2 until 2017. That’s probably why I see it as so recent personally.
-
The Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 are the new N64 and PS1. (I wasn’t alive for the older group, but I still feel old.)
-
I feel like PS3 had such a short lifetime, like PS2 was around forever, and with current shortages I may be on ps4 until the 2030s
-
PS2 is still modern. PS1 on the other hand is retro
-
Ok?
-
I remember when the PS2 was state of the art because it could play DVD’s haha.
-
Fuck you and every hole in your body
ID: gt6rmelPoor taste, but wonderful execution lol.

I was given my PS4 for Christmas 2019. It had been a REALLY hard year. Didn't know this baby would help me retain my sanity in 2020. Just had my 58th birthday I'm a mum just busy entertaining my kids playing Resident Evil!

Damn, those are some strict rules. I actually wonder now if you'd be able to play MGS1 on anything past a PS2.
