JJ Abrams is making games now?

ID: guk4yk8

Bro I was watching Star Trek Into Darkness yesterday and I tried to count the amount of lense flair but it is just too damn much

3 : Anonymous2021/04/14 20:45 ID: guj484d

No wonder dude is blind with all that light in his face

4 : Anonymous2021/04/14 20:42 ID: guj3qsx

Bloom effect is by far the worst graphics setting. Always turn that stuff off. Feels like I am playing a game with sunscreen in my eyes.

ID: guj4pgs

Lmfao sunscreen

ID: guj90v1

Same. Bloom and motion blur are instant offs for me.

ID: gujb10w

Holy shit when No Mans Sky released on PS5… the bloom was literally blinding lol was a big and they fixed it but hot damn it was intense

ID: guk63lb

I took this screenshot in 2016, still seems relevant

ID: gujhzrn

Bloom, lens flare, chromatic aberration, lens distortion... just no. These are *camera* effects, and they should never be in a game where you're using human type eyes.

ID: gujm5mh

But they look cool!

But on a serious note: The bloom/lens flare effects do make some sense (sometimes) because they are compensating for a lack of dynamic range. In other words, since the brightest value they can show is a dim white, they use other techniques to simulate brightness.

5 : Anonymous2021/04/14 20:55 ID: guj5npf

Brown blur to blinding bloom

6 : Anonymous2021/04/14 20:41 ID: guj3psa

but that lens flare tho...its blinding all common sense

7 : Anonymous2021/04/15 01:50 ID: guk4q80

What remaster is this referring to? I don't get it.

ID: guk6879

None, it's just cool to dunk on what's popular.

ID: guk6u9t

Being online is like being in school again with teenagers thinking the coolest possible response to anything is “whatever.”

8 : Anonymous2021/04/14 23:13 ID: gujmjve

Yeah watching the side-by-side of Mass Effect made me feel like this. The lighting changes just make the game feel less moody and more generic. I honestly couldn't tell why this version was better than the $10 versions you can get online.

ID: gujq73q

At least the remaster bundles all of the DLC except Pinnacle Station. Wasn't a way to get all DLC at a discount. PC version might have additional ways to change things(like Reshade or tweaking Nvidia/AMD settings), but then mod support will only happen if mods are ported ove

since UE3 subversion changed, and ME1 is much different game now, for better or worse.

That being said, it is annoying that the art direction gets ignored (though sometimes that was through hardware limitation, but overdoing camera effects and/or sloppy retexturing and modelling distracts a lot).

ID: guk3gmo

what 144p screen were you watching from?

ID: guk14uw

On the other hand, we have Demons Souls. There's examples on both sides.

ID: guk1f2q

while I agree that the original trilogy was sometimes dark for no reason, if they don't do a better job of nailing the shadows all they're doing is highlighting the bad models and textures. Sure they've improved due to upscaling, but they're still outdated, and slapping some extra brightness on them just makes them look worse.

ID: guk8zru

Yeah when I was watching that trailer I was thinking to myself, "oh that does look pretty good" then realized I was looking at the original. Not sure if I'm dumb, or if that's just a testament to how well they did with the original game.

ID: guk954k

They didn't change brightness on anything, they "fixed" lighting by making it energy conserving (i.e. physically based rendering). The most obvious immediate effect is that light actually looks more realistic and way more consistent across all settings. Here's a very clear demonstration of what this translates to, visually.

9 : Anonymous2021/04/14 22:52 ID: gujk7j5

I don't know why but it reminds me of the director cut version of Deus Ex HR .... why they changed the game so much unnecessarily the only thing that really improved were the bosses but the rest was WTF !!! ??

10 : Anonymous2021/04/14 22:35 ID: guji5ki

Don’t you mean $70

ID: gujxepb

11 : Anonymous2021/04/14 21:26 ID: guj9os2

Demon souls was beautiful on ps3 too though

ID: guk77ku

Great game, but very very far from beautiful, now the remake, thats gorgeous.

12 : Anonymous2021/04/14 23:34 ID: gujoy7p

The mass effect trilogy remaster made laira's boobs more shapely

13 : Anonymous2021/04/15 01:42 ID: guk3t75

*cough* Black Desert: Remastered *cough*

18 : Anonymous2021/04/15 01:36 ID: guk31qb

This was pretty bad in the PS4/xb1 version of gta 5, god knows how much worse it’ll be in the new, new version.

20 : Anonymous2021/04/15 02:18 ID: guk7tsa

Friends don't let friends do Lens Flare. Talk to your graphics designers, before J.J. Abrams does.

21 : Anonymous2021/04/15 02:18 ID: guk7x0q

So, PS5 games are worse than PS3 games? Got it.

22 : Anonymous2021/04/15 02:29 ID: guk95wc

RTX on.
