- How to "Kill" a franchise
-
Arent abandoning it and refusing to do anything with it essentially the same?
ID: gwa7a9fID: gwap3uyYeah especially this one (which is flawed).

Rayman Origins and Legends were some of the best plattformers I've ever played.
ID: gwabfy2Rayman origins and legends are what happens when you take an old franchise and put it up to date with modern technology and gameplay. A complete success. I wish they'd do this to other kind of games, instead they generally forget about them, or produce an equivalent that's too similar and improve nothing.
ID: gwae5c0To be fair though, the only thing that the Rayman reboot had in common with the original were the setting and characters. The original Rayman played a lot slower and you often had to stop for a moment to get further while Origin and Legends had a flow to them that allowed you to never stop running.
ID: gwa23uwLegends might be in my opinion the best platformer ever made on sheer mechanics, amount of content, and art style. Game is straight up fantastic. Those frickin music levels though, incredible.

Didn't Mega Man 11 come out like 2 years ago?
ID: gw9plwtYes and after Mighty #9 it was nice to get an actually updated new Mega Man. So I don't know why Mega Man is on that list when they have been at least doing something with it, though a Legends 3 would be nice!
ID: gwahkcpDid people forget they literally left off the last Megaman X series game with a cliffhanger? ... Still waiting for the (not) so surprise that Sigma still exists.
ID: gwa7ub2Megaman Legends fans unite! There are literally dozens of us.
ID: gwaeds4Mighty #9 isn't a Capcom game. I believe it was made specifically because there were no new Megaman games coming out. With the exception of the collection it had been like 6 years with no new Megaman game releasing. The GunVolt also isn't Capcom. Megaman 11 was probably made due to these games (I have no real info supporting that). I would consider a game with only 1 new entry in 10 years kind of abandoned personally. It isn't like the Megaman worlds are enormous things with tons of NPCs and dialogue to flesh out.
ID: gwahv4yMighty #9
After what I read about the game I'm so glad I didn't play/buy this. But I bought 20XX and recently 30XX (alpha or early access, idk what but I liked 20XX so much the devs deserve my support) and those are cool games, it's a Megaman rogue-like.
ID: gwa68nbThis “meme” is probably ancient
ID: gwaupikKonami decided to stop making regular games almost 5 years ago, and a new Megaman came out two years ago, so this is at least a couple years old.
ID: gw9wfgzAlso they've released many collections with the old games, conveniently playable as HD sets released at reasonable prices so you no longer have to use a rom or pay hundreds of dollars for a copy of Megaman 8 for example.
(Wouldn't be surprised if this was an ignorant repost tbh)

Kid Icarus is a weird choice here, more of a placeholder. A "franchise" based on 3 games within 26 years
ID: gwa9n87Honestly F-Zero and Starfox are probably both better examples of Nintendo refusing to do any thing with a franchise.
ID: gwaadszEven Starfox has gotten fairly recent games. Starfox Zero on the Wii U, Starfox 64 3DS, Starfox Command on the DS. The last F-Zero game was a JP exclusive in 2004, it's so fucking overdue for a new game and the big N just doesn't care 🙁
ID: gwanyxhThe 3DS game was soooo fun, the combat mechanics were awesome and I spent tons of hours online. I’m still waiting for a switch game, hell I’d take a remake at this point if it had functioning multiplayer.
ID: gw9vkkxRight? It wasn’t really a franchise to begin with. And wasn’t very popular either.
ID: gwahoioI played Kid Icarus on NES. I didn't know there were other games in the series. It's also a game I almost never hear anyone talk about.

No Metroid, F Zero, or Star Fox?
ID: gw9kd0hI believe Metroid is still in the oven
ID: gw9xw0ePreheat oven to 420 and put Metroid in to bake.
Set timer for 30 years.
ID: gw9qnbjMetroid is in progress (allegedly) and Star Fox has had a game pretty much every console generation until this one since its inception (if we count Command on DS as the same generation as the Wii). But with the last game performing so poorly, I doubt we'll be seeing anything for a while.
F-Zero, on the other hand, yeah we're long overdue and Nintendo's excuses are getting silly. The last main line game in the franchise was nearly 20 years ago, and it's not on the eshop, so the idea of "there's no interesting gimmick we could do so we'd just be iterating on the series and that's against our design philosophy" holds little water since people can't actually play the previous games that they'd be iterating on. They just don't want to admit that they're online services are too shit for a modern multiplayer F-zero game to work.
ID: gw9t093I’m pretty sure the Wipeout series kept releasing games after F-Zero GX came out. I know those are separate series, but they’re both high speed anti-grav racing games and one of them is certainly absent these days.

What did Rayman get replaced with? I'm still waiting on a sequel for Legends..
ID: gw9yxteRabbids I think....
ID: gwa47tfThey sorta did. Rayman Adventures and Rayman Mini. Both for mobile.
-
Megaman Battle Network would have been a more obvious choice instead of Megaman.
I'm not crying....YOU'RE crying....
ID: gwa2zhmThe Battle Network games were being dropped on the Wii U Virtual Console like crazy. I even remember lots of popular posts about them on

To be fair, I think konami is making a shitton of money with pachinko
ID: gwakgbqWait, so is the meme saying that they turned the games into a pachinko like experience, or that they literally are making pachinko machines themed off the games instead of making new video games?
ID: gwal6yyMachines themed off the games instead of making new games
ID: gwarn23They are literally making pachinko machines themed off of these games.
ID: gwa7owfWhat's pachinko?
ID: gwa7xuqPachinko (パチンコ) is a type of mechanical game originating in Japan and is used as both a form of recreational arcade game and much more frequently as a gambling device, filling a Japanese gambling niche comparable to that of the slot machine in Western gambling.

Golden Sun - Nintendo: deny its existence
-
Rayman origins and legends are next level. I can't even begin to imagine what they could do with that art style on the new consoles. Apparently the Ubiart engine is a pain in the ass which is why we haven't seen another and they are improving the engine to make it easier to work with. As far as I'm concerned I'd happily give up all upcoming releases for another Ubiart Rayman game.
-
I will never forgive Konami for taking Silent Hills away from me.
-
Rayman didn't die, he's just stuck in shitty mobile game autorunner hell.
So sad, considering I had a blast playing Origins and Legends.
-
Forgot to mention Goemon in Konami haha 🙁
-
It genuinely still hurts me that the Kojima era MGS is over forever.
Absolute favourite game franchise ever.

Splinter cell???
ID: gw9kgjsUbisoft : Just put Sam Fisher in other games as a guest character
ID: gwaeng7"you guys requested a new Splinter Cell games for years and today, we decided to put him on R6S, c'mon and waste your money!"
-
EA... we just buy a studio and then fire all developers and close the franchise...
ID: gw9zze5More like intentionally sabotage it by forcing it to compete with one of their other properties.

I wanna know who killed the Turok franchise. LOVED it for the PS2. Also Red Faction and Timesplitters.

You might be overestimating the amount of thought that goes into the average meme
