Seriously what did people dislike so much about the Wii U?

ID: gzx7xpuIt was marketed really poorly, at least in the US. I had one and there were so many people that thought it was just an extra accessory that I got for the Wii instead of its own console.

ID: gzx7ds6Maybe I wasn't just as with it as I was as a child, but I had a Wii and thought it was just some kind of controller add-on ... that I wasn't really interested in buying. I think they probably could have picked a better name to avoid confusion.
ID: gzx9d23Yeah, I think poor marketing played a big role. I thought the Wii U was an accessory for the Wii. It sounded like a gimmick rather than a revolutionary console.
ID: gzx8ajdI loved it to, probably my favorite Nintendo console after the N64, was so cool to play Black ops 2 on the gamepad, Switch still doesn't have a shooter as good as this. Also the online was better, no friend codes, messaging and Miiverse. Problem was, that the hardware was only slightly better than the Xbox 360 and PS4 and Xbox one came out a year after the launch of the Wii u.
ID: gzx845eWhat killed it for me was no real graphical jump from the Wii to the Wii U. Playstation and xbox made the Wii U feel old the day it came out.

Wait, no. It isn't They're the country that prides itself on working them to death. The country that is literally collapsing demographically because people don't have time, money, or energy for family or marriage.
But hey, they didn't get blamed for WiiU. So.. win. yay.

ID: gzx4bf3Yes. One of the worst places for women among wealthy democracies. That's a huge reason for the population decline. It's so hard to just economically survive as a woman, the prospect of having kids is just beyond the pale (and generally punished by employers, making it even more difficult).

They would have been better off calling it the Wii 2.
Too many people thought the Tablet controller was an add-on to the Wii or that you could use more than one Tablet controller. (which, technically could have been possible if a developer was careful with game graphics/resolution.)
The Wii U fixed everything I hated about the original Wii, other than dropping GameCube support, which could easily be soft modded back in with Nintendon't. (you actually just reinstall the MIOS, the GameCube firmware, which was excluded from the Wii U as the DVD drive lacked the hardware needed to load the mini GameCube disks.)
I have a Modded Wii U and its my goto for playing Wii / Wii U and GameCube titles. It is such a solid console with a fairly good library of games.
It's also great for retro emulation.

Especially when Activision, as the worst offender, fire hundreds of people to just optimize the company's performance to their share holders. Meanwhile their CEO just tries to give himself more and more money despite doing nothing exceptional in his position.

"Caught up with". How does the longest established and most successful console maker and owner of Mario and Zelda catch up with the others? It still had billions in the bank during the Wii U debacle. The Wii U was another groundbreaking system with excellent games but failed entirely by marketing.
