Holy crap this looks epic. Surprised about the January release though.
ID: h1c0r6uID: h1c344wYes.
ID: h1c3s7rI'm surprised they're showing so much gameplay but it's pushed out to January.

Huh, this has some serious Dark Souls vibes, as in the design of everything and all that. We've seen other Fromsoft games and they usually have pretty different distinct designs for the different franchises (Dark/Demon Souls being the exception since Dark Souls was a spiritual successor)
With DS3 it was said it would be the last dark souls game, but I wonder now if they only meant that it would be the last game of the story, rather than the setting, because this looks like it could almost be set in the same world. Maybe this is just more to the world outside of the undead.
ID: h1bv6ouLooks like Dark Souls with a Norse inspiration, with the Valkyrie character and the Yggdrasil-like tree. I'm fucking hyped by the art direction and setting, personally.
-
The last thing I expected was a horse, this looks absolutely incredible
ID: h1bpdajWell it's not a horse, it's an elk. Taken straight from Princess Mononoke.
ID: h1c2r7zElk, taken straight from real life.
ID: h1bvdrfmy favorite Miyazaki film.
ID: h1byzhuYakul!

I expected a more grounded fantasy world, given that they got GRRM in to do world building, but this really just feels like it could be Dark Souls 4.
ID: h1c2a5vWould that honestly be so bad?
ID: h1c6cjsNot for me

Stop From I can only get so erect!

I am so happy that during this Pandemic I decided to test my patience and actually put some time into games like this. Started with Dark Souls 3 on PS5 and it took some time for me to get over myself and be more patient with myself and realize that the deaths are mostly my mistakes. When that happened I started to truly love the game and the challenges, some of them where actually a lot easier than I had feared and some where damn hard.
I finished DS3 and the first DLC, did not finish the last DLC as I bought Demon Souls on a sale and just yesterday I finished that game. Just in time for this trailer to be released.
And I am finally able to be excited for a From Software game, which I never really was before as I never got into these types of games before.
And a more open world souls type game looks really awesome to me. But I do hope they have changed one thing that bothers me with both DS3 and Demon Souls and that is story telling. I know there is story in those games if you really look for it, but I want that aspect to be a bit more directly delivered. With G.R.R Martin on board with this game, I hope that is the case with Elden Ring.
ID: h1c7bspSince you're playing on PS5, you should really try out Bloodborne. Out of all souls style games it might be my total favorite, story, design and mechanics wise. And The Old Hunters DLC is probably one of the best DLCs there is, with top notch locations, amazing bosses and lore!

Can someone explain the hype on this game? Is it just Dark Souls / Bloodborne / Demon Souls in a different setting? Not hating, just genuinely curious.
ID: h1bqwcwWell let me see if I can explain:
-It's a new from software game (that alone is enough reason for fans of the souls series)
-It's going to be their first open world game, and the biggest game yet
-The world was created in collaboration with George R.R. Martin, the writer of Game of Thrones
-They announced the game 2 years ago and didn't give any news on it until now
-It looks fucking epicID: h1bppysAs with all hype, it is about feelings and anticipation. When you are someone who enjoys Dark Souls, you have had a moment the game "clicked" with you. You know those levels. You ran through them countless times. Even when you just finished them once. There is something deeply rewarding in inching yourself through terrible odds always slightly progressing. (Like climbing a mountain if any of us had actual muscle mass)
This game promises to give you this all over again. A new challenge.
ID: h1bnfmfGenuine question here. Have you ever played anything by From Soft in the vein of Souls, Bloodborne, or Sekiro? They're all pretty solid and if you haven't gave them a shot, they're worth the try! All the hype is stemming from how great those games have been and how great From Soft is at crafting worlds.
ID: h1byruhSekiro might be the best game I've ever played. Ive never seen fight mechanics like that and once you figure out the "rhythm" in fights its so rewarding.
ID: h1c8dktYeah, honestly here’s how to justify the hype:
it’s a From Software game.To people who “get” the magic of them, that’s truly all that needs to be known. At this point they could just announce, “hey we’re putting out a game on X date” and then never follow it up with an image, trailer, or interview and I’d be a Day 1 purchaser.
ID: h1blbgcIt's supposed to be their biggest game yet, open world. And by the looks it's going to be similar to Dark Souls
ID: h1bnjmwIt's a collaboration between the creative mind behind one of the most beloved game franchises, and one of the most significant fantasy authors in pop culture. It's also set to be Miyazaki's biggest game yet.
There's also the fact that this game was vaguely announced almost two years ago with little more than the name and the fact that it was a collaboration between GRRM and Miyazaki, and there's been almost no details since. People were starved for details, so a gameplay trailer finally dropping is big.
ID: h1bmp6rFrom software usually makes great games and george martin can tell good stories. Why not be hyped
ID: h1c6ibzYou have to understand the level of passion that fans of the Souls series (and Miyazaki games in general) have for these games. It’s like how film fans felt about a new Stanley Kubrick film. For those that love and appreciate these games, they are like the pinnacle of the medium. So yeah. This, their biggest and most ambitious game yet, is a big deal.
ID: h1bm5alWord is that it will be more open-world. From the trailer, the combat looks like a mix of Dark Souls and Sekiro, with some flashy movement and sword deflections.
ID: h1bn7ntGeorge R. R. Martin is also involved in this game.
ID: h1byolbBasically Dark Souls IV

LETS FUCKINBG GO!!! OMFG!!!! 7 MONTHS!!!
-
Looks good. I like the design of everything. Give me a big open world and I will be very happy!
-
You can really tell what models and assets seem to be taken from DS3, idk what I was expecting but it was something a bit more differentiated.
ID: h1bjrgkYeah a lot of seemingly reused assets. Maybe there will be some connections to DS. I hope the game will be good, at this point I can close my eyes on reuse.
ID: h1bzkc5I mean the guy talks about "extinguishing your flame". There's definitely going to be some reference.
ID: h1bvs06A lot of the assets of daek souls have lore to them that makes them kind of important. The mushroom turban for instance. If this game is connected to dark souls in some way then i understand the assets.
-
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooOOOOOOOoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Elden Bling!
-
Holy shit, I’m sold
-
So its 90% Dark Souls with just enough differences to need to call it something else. Works for me.
ID: h1c42emExactly. Not sure why people are complaining.
-
Why yes, I will be playing this.
-
Hyped af man!!!
-
Cool looking game, now finish the damn book George!
-
Graphics solidly PS4 era (Demons Souls looks far better graphically) and personally not really a fan of the art style but I’m liking the more open world and exploration and I’m certain the game will be great.
ID: h1brm1zAnyone who expected it to look like Demon's Souls is absolutely mental.
ID: h1bv80iI agree to an extent, DS was PS5 exclusive and this wasn't but it should at least look better than a game from 2016.
ID: h1bj0pmYeah those are some 2016 level graphics
ID: h1bjm1vNobody cares about graphics in a From Soft game, their games were always average graphically
-
Maybe it took too much time or maybe too much hype. But I felt meh! Don't know what I was expecting.
-
Definitely an unpopular opinion, but after spending years on Diablo and then Skyrim, this type of setting/genre just gets old for me. It looks to be an amazing game however.

Surprised it’s so early or surprised it’s so late?
