Back when I was playing this masterpiece after the first play through I spent most of the time walking with my horse around the map not really going anywhere, just getting lost in the amazing atmosphere, a world that at the pace of nature surrounded us, amazing sound drove me from east to west, dry desert and snowy mountains... Rude farmer and generous workers were my fellowship... More I got lost more I was enjoying! Such a game, such a gem!

It truly is amazing. I’ve got around 650 hours in the game and have played through the story like 6 times (excluding the epilogue, which I’ve only played 3 times) and have nearly gotten platinum on the game yet I still get amazed by the beauty of the world and often find stuff I’ve never seen or encountered before.

ID: h46ezz7

Can I ask what I’m supposed to do in the beginning? I’m at the first camp (after they come out of the pass) and there are no quests or anything except finding some playing card people. I wandered through town and there was nothing to do. I feel like I’m missing something. They told me to help out the camp but there doesn’t seem to be much to do. The “camp improvements” are a fucking joke like add antlers to the campfire. There has to be more to do....

Is epilogue weakest part of the game in your mind? If you only completed it 3 times.

I would pay a lot of money for a new map and a robust hunting log. Gathering log, observation log, sightseeing log, optional.

I don't need dialogue, story, missions, etc.

I came across this exact event, up by that cabin in the mountains.

I watched from a distance and was so glad the bear survived.

I then accidental fell into the lake and got its attention and had to shoot it to survive.

I felt really bad.

ID: h469e0l

For me the bear and one wolf had perfect pelts. Bagged both of them.

This stupid game has almost ruined my ability to play anything older than 2017, it's just way too pretty and realistic looking.

5 : Anonymous2021/07/05 17:25 ID: h45bfob

The visuals and world building in this game are absolutely incredible.

6 : Anonymous2021/07/05 18:17 ID: h45hkdm

Man I love this game, it’s like anything in it just has a life of its own. Also the reason I felt incredibly bad killing innocent people in the game, it was just like murdering an actual human being

ID: h45jb0m

God, tell me about it. When my roommate would shoot someone, my first thought was "dear lord you just fucking killed a man!" The impact of the gunplay deserves all the credit it can get. It's real weighty.

-spoiler-

Catfish Jackson dude with his son made me feel like the worst person. reloaded a save that sent me 6 hours back but at least i felt better without hearing the kid talk about his mom.

ID: h46cwem

And yet i still do it so much

7 : Anonymous2021/07/05 15:56 ID: h450wmd

David Attenborough has entered the game

8 : Anonymous2021/07/05 17:16 ID: h45af69

We're looking at 8 years of development with the combined efforts of 1,600 devs from Rockstar San Diego, Rockstar North, Rockstar India, Rockstar Leeds, Rockstar Lincoln, Rockstar London, Rockstar Toronto, Rockstar New England and Rockstar New York.

I honestly don't know how they're going to finish GTA 6 by 2025 with the same caliber as their last masterpiece, Red Dead Redeption 2.

I honestly don't know how they're going to finish GTA 6 by 2025

It's likely been in development for years already.

Was there any studio left during RDR2's development?

That game was all hands on deck until crunch month right before its release. Maybe concept artists, writers, and a skeleton crew to mess around with their new game engine.

I don't think they had enough studios until 2018 to fully work on GTA 6. Maybe half/quarter of a studio was left behind to update RDR2/Online.

ID: h45wci2

Yep. RDR2 is a masterpiece but Read Dead Online is trash.

You can also see the two bucks with their antlers locked. They put so much time and love into making the world.

ID: h46726m

And birds of prey picking up snakes in the grass. If you shoot the bird you get the feathers and the snake skin.

ID: h46be99

They'll also pick up the fish in the lakes.

10 : Anonymous2021/07/05 21:25 ID: h463s0y

the yellow rectangle was a nice touch

11 : Anonymous2021/07/05 22:12 ID: h4695r1

Every other open world feels not finished after I played rdr2. I can feel the crunch, but every one who worked on this game did an amazing job.

12 : Anonymous2021/07/05 22:29 ID: h46azex

Always amazes me how Rockstar releases absolutely insane single player games, and then ends up throwing in a multiplayer online mode that completely fucks up everything from immersion to realism.

13 : Anonymous2021/07/05 18:29 ID: h45j0ey

Is it always really obvious that the npcs don’t move until you “notice” them? Or is this pretty uncommon?

ID: h464x42

I noticed it in this clip as well and after a lot of time playing this game that’s the first time I e seen it.

14 : Anonymous2021/07/05 21:50 ID: h466mlg

I want this for a game like Skyrim... which was almost there. But my fantasy RPG fix won't be satisfied for a long long time now that I've seen this sort of open world atmosphere.

ID: h469q24

Ain't that the truth. Rockstar set a high bar, and I don't know who will even hit it next.

ID: h46gnwc

That's only possible if Rockstar made Skyrim. Badesta does not have the talent to pull of an open world of this calibur.

15 : Anonymous2021/07/05 22:10 ID: h468uw8

This game was so great, and I didn’t play anything for like two months other than it. But after I beat it, I haven’t been able to go back to it. I can’t explain it.

16 : Anonymous2021/07/05 22:37 ID: h46bwxf

I should play this game again, I bet on PS5 it looks great.

17 : Anonymous2021/07/05 23:09 ID: h46feax

Rockstar really fucked up by trying to lean into RDR2 being "Wild West GTA:V MP". The landscape, hunting, sound design were so amazing. I would legit still be playing (and spending money) if it wasn't ruined by some screeching autistic kid throwing dynamite or trying to grief people every time you get on RDO.

Stuff like this is what made this my all-time favorite game, blowing the golden-era SNES RPGs outta the water by a mile.

The crazy dynamic and believable quality of events never ceases to amaze me when I see or remember things from this game.

20 : Anonymous2021/07/05 18:13 ID: h45h47n

huh i saw this happening right at that spot too. pretty cool

ID: h45opj6

It’s scripted. But there are so many elements like this, it’s amazing.

21 : Anonymous2021/07/05 19:27 ID: h45pwk3

I played it now again and I must say even years after release game just blows my freaking mind with attention to details.

I was playing the good guy, helping the camp, keeping the supplies up, cutting the wood and shit. Bringing child his story book.

It was cool to learn that you don't have to always kill someone. You can just shoot their gun away.

22 : Anonymous2021/07/05 19:40 ID: h45rgj6

It’s still crazy that a game that came out 3 years ago (2 years in PC) is still very demanding. You need to have a top of the line rig to play this on anything higher than medium settings. And it’s not even because they optimized it’s poorly, it’s just that good-looking of a game.

23 : Anonymous2021/07/05 21:16 ID: h462qsb

Jesus, i need to start this game at some point. Been sitting in my backlog since Christmas 2018.

24 : Anonymous2021/07/05 22:38 ID: h46bz8d

Wouldn’t it be great if the people of cyberpunk 2077 were this interesting to watch.

25 : Anonymous2021/07/05 22:57 ID: h46e5xd

I came across this on my journey to find the white Arabian

26 : Anonymous2021/07/05 17:44 ID: h45dsdk

Epic ai interaction considering the player might never even know about it

ID: h45ou8d

It's a scripted sequence that triggers when you enter that area for the first time iirc. The path is pretty linear and it's unlikely a player would miss it. It's still really cool and the fact that people think it's just spontaneous ai interactions gives credit to how much time and effort the devs spent filling the world with hundreds of scripted moments to stumble upon in order to trick you into believing it's real.

ID: h45y3fv

Is there an exhaustive list of these beautiful scripted moments?

ID: h45t69q

It's a scripted event.

ID: h45ms81

Looks like it didn’t start until he looked at them through the binoculars. I suspect these are set up to only run when the player is around and looking in its direction.

27 : Anonymous2021/07/05 16:58 ID: h458c5j

This game has a LOT of these random encounters and weird situations.

28 : Anonymous2021/07/05 22:22 ID: h46a9re

This is clearly a scripted event you are meant to see. Not just some radiant ai interaction. Sure it's cool, but no more special than a cut scene.

ID: h46f24q

It is more special than a cutscene because it's "hidden"

29 : Anonymous2021/07/05 18:46 ID: h45l0rt

Loved the graphics and the detail of this game. A real piece of art... However... The story never got to me... it more or less felt like they just whipped up several crazy missions and made up a story around them. It also felt like a chore to do the missions.. I never finished the game. I guess it is not a popular opinion...
