It was the artist who chose the colors, I'm guessing it probably just looked better with the overall piece. I think Claire can rock purple haha

Interestingly enough, her alternate outfit in the N64 version of RE2 is purple. It's a sweet look for Claire, though I do prefer her "Let Me Live' outfit from the PS1 version.
