This LAN party we did in an open Belgian mall in 2001

A chance for the public to observe socially awkward introverts in their natural habitat.

They had those opportunities at the mall around here all the time pre-covid. Just look for the tables with the Magic the Gathering players. Or in some cases you could just follow your nose....

Bro, I hope you grow up with all the riches and success your heart could ever desire for the joy this comment brought me. Good day to you sir.

Man, I honestly miss LAN parties

ID: h6hjrwh

Some of my husbands old LAN buddies still throw a LAN party every so often. In fact they had one last month and having another in August. My kids (now 22, 20 and 18) grew up going to these. Was alway fun trying to get 4 giant monitors and towers in a car and still have room for the boys.

ID: h6hw8e1

That’s just awesome. It’s so nice to share this with kids, even more when they’re your own.

ID: h6hk7vz

With the rise of better connective technology in general, we spend less and less time together 🙁 Of course, you could just meet up at your friend's place and play together, but why bother when you don't have to

ID: h6hncr5

Just video call and play bruv. With better tech, comes more ways to socialize. It's how you use it that is important.

ID: h6hk7i4

We should do it again, with rtx 3050 laptops. Would that not be epic?

ID: h6iepp5

They never stopped. My friends and I have LAN parties nearly every weekend still. It’s pretty much the only time I play video games nowadays.

ID: h6ijzr1

I remember my cousins and I use to hold Xbox Left 4 Dead 2 lan parties, we'd be up all night trying to blast through every campaign, and then once we moved to PC eventu we'd do the same thing but with mods, it was a blast.

ID: h6ink12

Would be soooo good to just come together with a bunch of guys, all bring an old (2001-2005 ish) kit and just play these awesome games such as MOHAA, Half Life and all other classics.

Just make sure to run Windows XP and airgap them lol.

ID: h6ipv1z

I host 1-2 LAN parties a year, usually get between 20-30 people and last from Friday evening until Sunday morning. They still exist, you just have to have people that want to do it and a place to have them.

Counter strike 1.6 was a hell of a drug

ID: h6ho47z

CS 1.6 was a part of my childhood/teenage years. I remember going to the internet cafe playing with the older kids from school hell this was a good time.

ID: h6i612h

I mean, my hearts beatin, my heart is beatin, my hand are shakin my hands are shaking, but I'm STILL SHOOTING, STILL GETTING HEADSHOTS, it's like BOOM HRADSHOT! BOOM HEADSHOT! BOOM HEADSHOOOOTTT!

ID: h6il1is

It was my life so many years. Miss those days so much. Btw I think you mean 1.6 overall but in this picture it's probably 1.3 version since it's from 2001

A golden age of LAN. Heavy equipment not meant for travel, awkward seating, junk food and stimulants, questionable hygiene. Was it for the money or fame? No, there was no fame, no social media and little money. It was to prove superiority and headshots. Nothing but headshots.

Boom headshot!

Pretty fun lan party when you can just get up and grab some mall food. But I would be afraid of passersby messing with my rig while I was AFK.

ID: h6hwjlf

I felt concerned back in the days but people were respectful ( or afraid to come close to us nerds lol)

ID: h6ioive

This has always been my fear on every lan i attended hehe

7 : Anonymous2021/07/25 14:29 ID: h6h6fno

I mean, i was and still being a big nerd, but that looks super weird for the Gamer and for the Shopper. Especially at that Time. This Picture gives me super Anxiety for a Introvert 😀

Was this some kind of a Event?

ID: h6havst

It was actually a CS tournament held by a local gaming club. At that time it was hard to find places to host large (70+ ppl) LAN parties

ID: h6i3d4f

Hey Dude, why are you Capitalising random Words? No offense, it just throws Me off

ID: h6icwv1

Probably German, as he capitalises nouns.

ID: h6ivabx

Wait what? English doesnt Capitalising Words? TIL my life was a lie and yes im german speaking.

Why noone telling me this before? I thought you are just lazy for not capitalizing words lol

8 : Anonymous2021/07/25 20:58 ID: h6ihyic

ID: h6ii6uw

It was BETA

14 : Anonymous2021/07/25 17:17 ID: h6hqi5z

Was this official or did you just show up?

ID: h6hvtub

It was official. No one could attend uninvited

15 : Anonymous2021/07/25 18:03 ID: h6hwdhw

Ah, the good ol’ days! This is a great photo! My son attended big LAN parties back then (some sponsored by the software companies), and we had them at our tiny house, too. There’s nothing like the excitement of 12 or so guys yelling and screaming at each other and the games. All I had to do was keep the pizza going, the Dew cold, and make breakfast at Noon. Awesome times.

16 : Anonymous2021/07/25 18:46 ID: h6i1otn

Calling it now in a year or two there will be LAN PARTY VR on steam. Itll have a built in OS Emulator and copies of Halo, CS Source, Team Fortress and Age of Empires 2

17 : Anonymous2021/07/25 20:09 ID: h6ibx7o

Hi teenager here what was a LAN party

ID: h6iklll

Basically like having all your friends come over with steam on their laptops to play games. But back then since internet and servers were sketchy if you made one big local network it was latency free. In the same way you get a few friends over to play multi-player games you could get a 5v5 game of counter strike going.

Good times.

ID: h6ikv5m

People still have them, just rare. Basically bringing your computers together to play the same game at the same location. Insane amount of fun.

Playing MP games with your friends online is fun, but get them all together in the same room and play those games. It is way more fun.

18 : Anonymous2021/07/25 20:13 ID: h6icf1n

Dokaz.com doesn’t seem to be working anymore :/

19 : Anonymous2021/07/25 20:16 ID: h6icrye

Those early 2000s capitals colours sucked so much.

20 : Anonymous2021/07/25 20:31 ID: h6iekan

Remember when your internet would get shut off when your parents would answer a phone call, therefore kicking you outta your online game?

Yeah. I don’t either. I wasn’t alive back then.

21 : Anonymous2021/07/25 20:34 ID: h6if0hs

Neeeeeerds!

22 : Anonymous2021/07/25 20:52 ID: h6ih5nl

Even though i was fully into LAN gaming at that point I can't believe how outdated that whole thing looks now
