I was seriously playing this game at 1 or 2 fps the first time, then we got an upgrade on our computer and suddenly all the motions were smooth. Blew my mind.

The very first GTA was released October, 1997.
Lego Island was released September, 1997.

You probably mean Lego Racers but there was a Game Called "Lego Creators" where you could build anything.

That's the one I have. Just like with other Lego games at the time, the CD jewel case has little Lego studs:

They are a bit loose though, so you can't really attach anything to them.

Yeah huge sandbox game. Racers was great and Lego Loco and Stunt Rally were good too.
