The PSP was at least fairly successful.
ID: h6z8djwID: h6zdig3GBA, N64 and PSX games too.
ID: h702h7fAnd porn.
Don't forget about porn.
ID: h6zplpoDon't forget the gimmick of using your psp as a rearview mirror in ridge racer on ps3. Was that "feature" ever used in any other games?
ID: h6z2tfs80 million in units. This meme implies that they all failed.
ID: h6zhg2sNo, it implies they failed to kill the competing Nintendo product. Since the DS sold almost double what the PSP did, I think it’s fair to say that the PSP failed to kill the DS.
ID: h6zhk6yNo, it implies that they didn't kill the nintendo handhelds, which is true. Nothing in the image says anything about failing.
ID: h6yvq4jCame here to say this lol

Game gear was cool, I had it as a kid, but definitely wasn’t the gameboy killer they hoped for.
ID: h6z6h6fI had a nomad... Same game gear problems but you could play the entire genesis library on it... thing was dope.
ID: h6yvw3xIt was superior to the game boy in all but battery life and game library - which are two huge things. Games looked awesome on it though.
ID: h6yw619I played so much Sonic at night under the covers. Almost as much as I played Pokemon Gen 1+2 lol
ID: h6z01rgIt was what 6 AA batteries for 3 hours of gameplay?
Sega made a rechargeable battery pack for it that cost almost as much as the device. And it was worth it.

I do prefer the PSP to the ds

Switch and Steam aren’t even in the same market. One is a luxury handheld to compete in the PC space and the other is a budget console/handheld hybrid.
ID: h6ywduzIt isn't even really a pc space competitor. It's more of a companion item.
ID: h6z57ghIt can absolutely be more than a companion item given the competitive price it's launched at. And the fact that it runs on Linux and offers a lot of freedom.
ID: h6zhla0The only thing the Steam Deck is gonna kill is our wallet
ID: h6z86zqSo $399 is luxury and $299 is budget?
ID: h6zemd0I would never suggest picking up the 399 model if you do not have the skill to upgrade the NVMe in it. (Unknown how difficult it is, it probably requires removing many big and small parts) (The unit is designed to be small, instead of the huge space a user replaceable NVMe drive would indeed take. It could take 30-100% more space than just having it in a non user serviceable position)
ID: h701wthK but a real Switch - not that lite trash - is $399
ID: h6z8rngnever luxury about steam deck, its a budget handheld in bith price and spec
ID: h70dx1xNot a “budget handheld”. Compared to what?
ID: h6yz9x4Budget console? It costs more than a ps4 🙂
ID: h6z1wquSwitch is widely considered a budget option. Ps4 retailed at $400 at launch, switch was $300. And Nintendo drops their consoles in between Sony/Xbox specifically to not compete with them. This is widely known info.

No one is claiming it will Kill the Switxh but the Nintendo faithful are sure insistent that it wont.
The insecurity of some Nintendo fanboys is too obvious.
Steam Deck is freaking sweet.
ID: h6z65a3Youtubers hyping it as switch killer. Cause youtubers are always accurate about predicting trends. Sure gladd i waited all this time for the Switch Pro to come out /s
ID: h6z6wozWhich YouTubers?
ID: h6za1acThis is like someone who preorders a game and says it's "freaking sweet" before they've played it. Why not reserve judgement until it's in your hands?
ID: h7025e2Because the Steam Deck is built on known hardware that actually exists in the real world, right now, and has performance data available upon which to judge and formulate an expectation.
It's running games that exist right now and can be played on that hardware and that performance data is available.
It also has proof that the games run just fine and look good, circa the videos and in depth reviews.

It's kind of in a different league then the switch. It's not like it can play all the stupid Nintendo only games so it still won't beat it there. It does offer all of us PC people a portable way to enjoy our games and I think that is where it's going to make a killing, along with allowing others to sort of step in to the Steam scene. I think it's going to be great as long as it holds up to its specs.
ID: h6z2g74It very well might be able to run the Switch emulator.

Again?
-
Definitely not the same situation

hope don’t age well
Neither does these meme

And lo, all of them were, I'm fact, better machines with better games.
-
Wait, people are saying the Steam Deck is going to be a "Switch killer"? I never even considered that thought until seeing this picture.
-
In the last instance one is not trying to kill the other. Let's be real, Nintendo may worry the Steam Deck could take a small share of potential buyers away from them, but really the Switch has been out for how long now?
The Steam Deck will inadvertently kill all the other portable PC game systems, but it's not interested in killing the Switch.

Shit man 30 years ago I had a Lynx
-
The Game Gear rocked that bright color screen ... used a BUNCH of batteries and lasted a couple of hours. I knew two people with Game Gears but their parents wouldn't keep buying batteries for them, so I never got to play it.
-
Anytime someone says something will be the “...killer”, it doesn’t
-
game gear was better than a game boy if you had an unlimited supply of batteries
-
I don't think anybody really thought the psp would kill the DS. The fact is, Nintendo's value is in their games. Valve can release whatever they want, if you can't play Pokémon on it, it isn't gonna kill the switch. Simple as.
-
Where's the Wii U btw?
-
This already has an existing library before launch though.
-
Can guarantee I will be playing on the Deck way more than my Switch once it arrives.
-
Somehow I don't think 2 hours battery life of playing PC games at 720p with controller inputs is going to change the world.
And it certainly won't sway anyone who is looking to buy Nintendo exclusives.

The PSP was awesome ... the PS2 gamers just aren't trying to play a portable system.
I think they got popular because people were playing NES/SNES games on emulators and watching ripped DVDs on them 🙂
