Fun fact: Games back in the day had very limited memory. They made the games intentionally harder so it would take longer to beat them.
ID: h7uq7grYup, heck, the earliest games often just got faster and/or threw more sprites at you until they were impossible, maybe changing the pallette for different levels.

ID: h7v55jkI'm thoroughly convinced that no one can beat Battletoads straight up. I beat it using raspberry pi and creating saves 50 thousand times to barely scrape through, and I feel like a pretty accomplished gamer.

ID: h7vb6ydIirc game genie codes for Batman sucked. Like unlimited batarangs or something. The super Mario bros ones basically only made the game harder. Tetris enabled BS two player version where you each controlled one axis of rotation. Talk about causing fights

Oh man, I beat it maybe 25 years ago or so, I remember it was crazy hard. Was it 3 boss battles in a row at the end?

I was well into my 20's when I beat that the first and only time. I never played it again. Not because it wasn't great because ain't nobody got time for that. Fucking bucket list games.... Damn I need to kill ruby weapon already.

ID: h7ve6jfI did that at about the same time as batman. The whole trilogy back to back. Hit Willow (omg took so long) dragon age all the nes ones and a couple others. That was a really great month being between jobs. The only thing from nes still on the bucket like is Ultima Exodus. And that makes me wish I didn't have this conversation. Because I didn't remember until now... Damn.
ID: h7vedfsI found ninja gaiden 3 to be easier than 1. Pretty sure the last couple of levels were hell though. Like seriously I had a real hard time at the end but whizzed right through until then.

ID: h7vf56qI tackled diddy kong quest awhile ago and I didn't know it was so hard compared to the first donkey king. I guess as kids we were forced to be good at these games there were no reviews and parents probably wouldn't buy them for you often so you just had to play them

Once you hit stage 3-1 it gets really hard so much enemies on the screen sometimes it slows the entire game. It took me an hour to pass stage 5
