ID: h870noiThis doesn't work, because those gift cards already sell for less than face value online. I used to buy my PS+ cards off card-selling websites for 80% off or more.
There's a lot of people who launder money through gift cards. If you steal somebody's credit card, that's how you do it. You spend as much money as fast as you can on gift cards, which are (theoretically) untraceable, and now you can sell them for cash. It doesn't matter if you sell them for less than you paid, because it wasn't your money in the first place. So most go for less.
EDIT: No, I don't know where to get them. I haven't done it in over a year, but I just googled for PSN cards and read website reviews on reddit. There might not be any good deals out there in August 2021, the cheap deals definitely did come and go.

ID: h87ebz0Recently an Xbox employee got caught for making gift cards then selling them. He made millions selling £10 gift cards. He sold so many that he reduced the real world value of gift cards massively.

So, buy 20 $100 Steam gift cards, get one free. Seems reasonable. Should cover a few years of quarterly sales.

ID: h86h920Okay, what counties actually charges sales tax on obtaining gift cards? These are considered cash equivalents and are not subject to sales tax. If someone pays sales tax on obtaining them, then they are just going to be charged sales tax again when they use the card.

Gift cards are easy money for companies, restaurants, etc.
Worst case scenario, they're a meal or product/service paid well in advance.
At best, the value of the product/service/meal is only partially redeemed, or not at all, and that's just free money.
There's so much value floating around in the form of unredeemed gift cards that selling them for under their value is statistically still profitable
