Mine was Super Mario World on the SNES. As a kid, I could never beat the castles or ghost houses past world 2 (donut plains) because they were too scary. Had to call my mom to beat them each time.

Man what a gut-punch. I have the exact same story except with Super Mario Bros 3 on NES. Never could quite work myself up to beating it on Wii Virtual Console until I was about to leave.
