- This has to be the most mysterious review scores I have seen (Resident Evil 6)

Score :
"YESN'T"

Goofy AF, but a fun enough game if you don't take it too seriously.
ID: h8zg3v1ID: h8znlg0Exactly. I played both 5 and 6 with a friend, and it was a ton of fun
ID: h8zy6nmI tried hard to enjoy this game but I felt like such a commitment, each level was like an hour or longer. And it wasn’t the best either, I think I dropped it after Chris’s campaign.
ID: h90fbgoAll the good/bad things people have to say about RE6 and I feel like this is one that nobody talks about.
That game was fucking long. Exhaustingly long. Most of the maps are trying to keep the action going a mile a minute the ENTIRE time and there's not even a pause feature.
RE6 is one of the hardest games to replay because it just goes on and on and on. Game doesn't have nearly enough down time. I can knock out RE4 or 5 in just a couple of hours but RE6 takes me almost a week if I really try. Maybe I'm just getting old.
ID: h9023gfHitting those counters is satisfying af every single time

It's a fun game. Bought it across systems. It is not a nonlinear puzzle box, it is a third person action game through and through.
ID: h8z2nyeFacts. Kinda repetitive on its own, but it’s really fun with 2nd player.
ID: h90qfsaUnless that second player is your sibling who keeps getting you killed by the giant guy you gotta tiptoe around with Jake and Sherry,

Chris can ride a playground panda thing and go down a slide. GOTY for that alone

So is this game a masterpiece or a pile of crap? Does anyone know? (Haven't played it but considering).
ID: h8yivzyA little from column A, a little from column B.
Seriously though, it's hard to tell, it's such a divisive game.
If you like tight, fast paced action, superhero style shennaigans with badass heroes and cinematic style, you might dig it.
If you're here for the horror and focused exploration, puzzle solving and classic item management, you'd probably be best steering clear.
ID: h8zf7f1I really don't understand the "Fast paced" bit. Yes, the combat is conceptually fast paced, but the game doesn't let you enjoy it for more than a few minutes without throwing a really not well developed mechanic in your way(The highway scenes, the copte
flying scenes, the snow mobile segments), or constantly interrupting you with scripted sequences or extremely intrusive cutscenes.RE6 is the closest thing to virtual blue balls I can think of. The pacing kills that game, and there's a reason nobody even figures out like, half of the mechanics until they play Mercenaries and are given a big arcadey playground to actually experience the geplay
ID: h8yk0feThis is the game for me then.
I've always enjoyed Resident Evil as a series but've had some severe problems with it not letting me simply shoot things in the head. Instead it wants me to look for a key somewhere that I then have to neatly arrange in a menu. Perhaps turn on a generator. I want horror-Gears of War or a slow DOOM, not Basement Simulator.
Also the less story the better, since it's just japanese cheese that I will spam skip through anyway.
Thanks, will try RE6.
ID: h8yiplxIt's messy but fun. The game has great combat mechanics and movement controls but explains nothing and can be a miserable experience if you don't know how to play it. It's also full of janky setpieces and other poor design oversights, for example, the game really likes to wrestle camera control away from you to show you something, but in the meantime, enemies can still gang up on you while you have no control and as soon as the scene is over you get hit from all sides.
ID: h8yuez6The art direction and atmosphere are pretty solid. The gameplay is much more action oriented, rather than encouraging the player to plan ahead and conserve items. This is where I feel like it loses the spirit of the RE games. It’s not inherently bad, just not what I look for when I play Resident Evil.
The plot you can take or leave, I don’t think it’s necessarily better or worse than previous entries.
ID: h8z1yhwPersonally? Hate it. Not everyone does though.
ID: h8ythppIt’s a solid third person co-op shooter, it’s a disappointing Resident Evil game
ID: h8ytmesIt takes patience. Patience and willingness to go look for gameplay guides, because the game itself sure as shit aint gonna tell you (organically, at least) that you can parry 95% of all enemy melee attacks.
Yes, you can do this. When I read about it and tried it myself, it felt like someone turned on the AC on a 40+ degree day. It was magnificient and glorious - there's a reason why RE6 is considered to have the BEST Mercenaries mode ever.
Story is still lackluster tho, with questionable character behaviors (the scene in the camera room where Leon wants to go save two idiots that are being eaten by zombies, thus basically making Leon look stupid for trying to save two people who are already dead, is going to be your first genuine "are you fucking serious" moment - first, but certainly not last).
There is a good game buried here, there truly is - hell, I'll play RE6 over RE5 any time.
ID: h8zkxi8IMHO, there's some good ideas buried under a lot of very questionable design and pacing decisions. The game is a bit too long for its own good and tries to reach for things that exceed its grasp. It also has what may be one of the worst QTE systems I've ever seen; prepare for stick waggle if you use a controller.
But if you can get past those issues, it's a fun time barring a few hiccups. The story is enjoyably batshit and the actual core gameplay is really well done, probably some of the best of the RE4-style era of RE. I recommend playing it with a friend in short bursts, maybe one or two chapters per-session. But it's not a terrible game, far from the worst RE game I've ever played. It's just good enough to me that the unfortunate flaws become very apparent.
Just be prepared for some jank.
ID: h8zpgkkIt's Resident Evil's plot, through and through. There are 4 scenarios that each have their own gameplay style. Like, the game is pretty much a RE4/5 gameplay game, but the enemies and levels and weapons change each scenario around. So its 3rd person action, but the level design and weapon loadout change how it feels, which I think is great.
Leon felt like RE4
Sherry/Jake felt like RE5 crossed with RE3
Chris felt like Call of Duty
Ada felt like... Ada missions in RE4.
Personally, I loved RE6 for its self-diversity, its scope, and its fun. Plus all scenarios cross somehow. But the gameplay and self dissonance ruined it for some players, too. Me, it's my favorite since RE4 to recent (save Remake 2), including Revelations: RE6 > 5, 7, 8, R1, R2, R3make. I really liked it.
For others, it was a giraffe getting sucked off
ID: h8yqilnI’ve played only half of Chris’ campaign, and I genuinely struggle to think of anything I like about it.
-
I’m playing through 6 for the first time after hearing everyone say it’s the worst one and I’ve only played through about 4 chapters of Leon’s campaign but low key I think it’s pretty badass
ID: h8zeicpchris's campaign was super fun for me.
-
It definitely was a mixed bag. I personally loved it but I can understand why a lot of people didn't. Piers x Chris was the best part, imo
-
As a guy that started with RE1, I think six is such a blast. While it’s probably more Fast and the Furious than RE it’s just stupid fun. RE6 is like a mashup of all your favorite RE entries in one title.
-
If you look at it as a resident evil game it sucks. If you look at it as another action game it’s pretty fun.
-
People deducted like three points out of ten by default because it was action packed and similar kind of to RE5
ID: h906pmwWhich is bs, it should be judged by its own merit, not by the franchise
-
I like Resi 6 for the cheesy switch your brain off game that it is but how on earth did it get a 39/40 in Famitsu, aren't they known for being fairly critical with their scores?
ID: h8z0pb7Maybe in the past they were, but now Famitsu will give any Japanese game a good score. Sonic Forces got a 35/40 from them.
ID: h8z0wxzOh yikes, I didn't realise they'd fallen so far
ID: h8z5kgiBy what I understand, in Japan they're considered trash tier, basically a commercial magazine which sell scores almost out loud. But how they're the only japanese reviewer with western visibility thanks to those industry connections, and overseas games are treated very harshly for them, americans created the impression they're strict and precise.
-
Polarizing game. Great controls and action. Horrible pacing and level design. Inconsistent quality across campaigns. Infinitely replayable mercenaries mode. I never uninstall this game, and never play the campaign.
-
Destructors spitting straight facts.
-
The game is worth a play through, especially with friends. online is still active too
-
As a game, it’s not bad
As a story, pretty dumb
ID: h8yul4mWhat
-
It’s a good action game.
Not a true RE game
There
ID: h8z43xcSaying it’s not a true {series} game makes no sense. It’s like saying a new band’s album is not a true band’s album because it’s different.
What even is a true RE game?
ID: h8z6ftdGatekeeping bs
ID: h8zg79sI absolutely hate the "It's a good game, but not a good _____________ game" mindset. It's such a half assed way to look at things and reeks of people just trying to save face for actually liking the game.
-
It's probably due to how they played it, most likely. The lower scores were probably done by guys who played the game alone, and didn't like the dumb shit that the game pulled out. The higher scores were probably played with a friend, and both guys were laughing at all the games stupidity. There's a great video by Raycevick detailing why RE6 was a fun game... provided you can laugh at it and have a friend with you.
-
I like it. Kinda clear Leon’s campaign is a little…ehh.
But Sherrys is cool and Chris gets one to rival his best outings.
-
Its a very polarizing game. You eithwr love it or hate it.
-
I don't really see it as decisive, most publications gave it bad to mediocre scores while there were a few that liked it. Famitsu should also never be taken seriously in any context.
-
RE6 was so strange. Some campaigns, Leon's, played more traditional RE style where Chris was clearly trying for a Gears of War style.
The game was just a baffling mix of concepts.
-
The game is alright but you can tell which reviewers were clearly paid and the ones that weren’t. IGN is usually always paid.

Probably a lot more fun with friends
