This designer really likes thin moving touch screens. The manufacturing companies would too, as they’ll be selling you a new one every 3 months when it breaks.

ID: haf17vl

Also likes making the entire controller a screen with cutouts for the buttons. How awful would it be to lift your hands off the controller just to see something on the screen?

ID: hafacui

That's easily the worst thing about this. Having 30% of the screen covered by default.

ID: hafbyrw

Nice animation work. Shittiest designs i've seen in. long time.

Of course, this is speculation based on OP's title. For all I know the project was "animate game controllers so they become the full game consolé. Please make sure to apply the lessons learned on mechanisms" in which case excellent work

ID: hafa3ha

I imagine they haven’t played many mobile games

ID: haf27mt

Yay unnecessary complexity that adds nothing to the game experience!

ID: haf95o2

bUt It LoOkS CoOl

Preorders 20

ID: hafcxx6

He designs like he's never held a controller or used a laptop.

ID: haf16tr

Don't forget the marketing companies. More screens for unescapable targeted advertisements!

Apparantly future = screens and useless moving parts everywhere

ID: haegb94

Remember the Nintendo DS?

Yes it was a popular console, but a massive numbers of game developers had no idea what to do with the 2nd screen. Most of the time the bottom screen was the menu and the top one was the game.

ID: haelzab

Remember the joy when a game managed to make use of the dual screens well? Sonic Rush springs to mind for me.

ID: haevv7u

Yes, but having that second screen as a menu was fantastic.

ID: haepjb3

I love that. Particualrly for fire emblem where more info was extremely useful

ID: haepbam

That was often also just the best use for it tho

ID: haehkan

I liked the ones where your hands would cover half the screen

ID: haenmdj

"We spent millions and raised the cost of our console significantly to make developers lives hell for a screen you cover up with your hands" that would be the tagline I reckon

ID: haeee4a

Moving parts that would be expensive, heavy, fragile and take up space in a very cramped build.

ID: haefi0h

And stop working on its own and need replacement every 8-12 months in case those fragile parts don’t break, just like printers

ID: haed3i3

exactly

ID: haej82l

Style over substance

ID: hafc8ht

Don't forget controller buttons on top of the actual screen

➕ARIO KART

4 : Anonymous2021/08/26 08:28 ID: haegcnz

these all look super inconvenient to use/play.

ID: haf0ro1

The Nintendo one was the worst. The buttons are covering up the screen!

ID: haf5i4i

Ohh boy. Wait till you notice the huge cartridge jutting out

ID: haf5i5l

I remember the patents that is based on. They came out and everyone was like "THIS IS THE NX!!1!" But it's such a bad design.

5 : Anonymous2021/08/26 06:06 ID: hae5ob6

I hate every one of these. The options appear to be putting put part of the screen under my thumbs or putting a completely pointless second touch screen in the middle that I have to awkwardly take my hand off the controller to use.

Controllers do not need screens.

ID: hae8az5

Amazing new controller...with a battery life of up to 20 seconds.

ID: hae7ta2

Sega believed differently and look at how they thrived after the Dreamcast! Oh... wait... maybe you’re right.

6 : Anonymous2021/08/26 05:45 ID: hae3yh6

Yeah, just put a dozen more moving parts on the thing I have to plug in and that gets constant wear and tear. Just a dozen more delicate hinges, sliders, gears and screens that will break within a week of purchase.

ID: hae4hqb

You thought you liked joystick drift, just wait until you experience the future that is entire sections of your controller drifting uncontrollably while you're trying to hold on for dear life. Majestic!

ID: hae7ago

Also, whats up with every machine having boderless screen with buttons on them. That's just a hassle and it hides a lot of screen, just a little dot for camera on my phone annoys me a lot while playing games.

ID: hae8n1o

It also makes it crazy expensive for no reason

7 : Anonymous2021/08/26 06:00 ID: hae54sz

I'm no product designer myself but this shit is HORRENDOUS. Especially the Nintendo one OMG. You have to use your brain to imagine the future, this trash would be uncomfortable and useless.

ID: hae6dk2

Controls covering parts of the screen, and then your hands covering parts of the screen as well. Terrible

ID: haee2on

It's everything I hate about mobile gaming!

edit: mobile = phone

ID: haegcdd

Plus, it clearly has touchscreen capabilities, which would be a nightmare, as your hands will be touching it all the time just trying to use the buttons and joysticks.

8 : Anonymous2021/08/26 07:14 ID: haeazco

I didn't like a single one of those honestly. Whoever made it has some great graphics skills, but they suck at designing products that are actually ergonomic and usable. These are just really ugly and look annoying to use. SO much time goes into designing gaming systems for comfort, and ease of access/use. This is just straight up laughing at that. It's like if you forced Michael Bay to design a controller. Cheap, flashy and crap.

This wouldn't be badass, this would be incredibly frustrating and a waste of tech.

ID: haeig3k

Also dude seems to have some weird obsession for screens that fold out for seemingly no reason then fold fold back in when you select a game.

Lord't. I remember before PS5 was released one of these videos "leaked" and people swore it was real..

11 : Anonymous2021/08/26 07:24 ID: haebrhr

I too want controls that cover large portions of the screen.

Oh- and randomly expanding sections for no reason. Gotta have those too.

ID: haevr9f

Hell yeah brother, gotta love those random expanding parts on my console, I'm sure this would be really comfortable and will definitely not become dirty at all

12 : Anonymous2021/08/26 06:01 ID: hae57h2

Half of these would have issues in like the first 2 weeks lmao

ID: haetzgz

All of them would have issues getting past the brainstorming phase. Maybe some concepts would be considered and evolved to something else - but not this stuff.

13 : Anonymous2021/08/26 09:54 ID: haem76i

The future of gaming: experience what it's like to play a mobile game, with your thumbs blocking half the screen. But wait, there's more! There's also buttons IN FRONT of the screen for even less visibility! Your opponents will know what hit them, but you sure as hell wont!

14 : Anonymous2021/08/26 07:22 ID: haeblu2

Ergonomics? What are those?

15 : Anonymous2021/08/26 10:54 ID: haeqrff

Points of failure. Points of failure everywhere.

ID: haeuafh

I ate popcorn near my future console and now 14 different parts are jammed.
