So far ahead of its time that it ended up flopping.

100%. It has so many features and fun games.

ID: hazmbig

Power Stone FTW! Man I wish this game would get remastered today with online play!

I have strong feelings about this system. It was amazing. The removable memory cards that served as Digimon or Tamagachi was so brilliant. Powerstone, Sonic Adventures, Crazy Taxi....

ID: haydhmd

Power stone was amazing. I was so young playing it and haven't played it since.

ID: haz6pfc

Power stone was easily one of the best

4 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:29 ID: hayaxnt

It was ahead of its time but Segas choice to not use DVDs for their media so I could also play them was a big mistake. Fun console. Played it a lot in college

ID: haymcbg

When the console launched in Japan DVDs were still pretty expensive so it would have bumped the prices of the games and console itself up quite a bit, and most likely caused the Dreamcast to fail by being too costly. There was the DVD player addon planned

I had a lot of fun on it. It blew my mind when my friend asked what game Id like to play and I said “Turtles in Time”, he goes upstairs, burns a disc and we are playing it 20 mins later.

First system where you could pirate every game. Loved it. Sad to see it went down in smoke.

ID: haz5mra

This probably contributed to the downfall

ID: haz5uhg

Yeah. Honestly, it prob did. Lots of 3rd party developers knew that most DC owners would pirate their game. This would be the one time I would say that piracy actually did bring a company down. Im guilty too. I only paid for three games on DC. The rest were downloaded.

ID: hayiugy

It was amazing and so easy to do too. You could also download pretty much any(all of the ones I tried worked, but not sure if all did) ROMs and play them on it as well. It was such a great system.

7 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:07 ID: haygdyg

Lost a lot of time to Phantasy Star Online

8 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:24 ID: hayirk5

Shenmue, powerstone, crazy taxi. Good times!

Tech was just moving at such a fast pace during its release, it was quickly overlapped by the Xbox and ps2

9 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:41 ID: haycmr4

Great machine, loved it

Power stone was my fav

10 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:19 ID: hay9g8p

Was too ahead of it’s time!

11 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:39 ID: haycccq

Meh. Nostalgia is a powerful force, so people remember it as being a better console than I do. I still have a dreamcast and several games. It might have been of PS2 status, but very few games were worth playing. I assume the reason was that the hardware was there, but devs didn't know what to do with the recent 3d breakthrough gameplay (ie. Super Mario 3D). I logged some hours on crazy taxi and soul caliber 2 though.

ID: hayqbha

Very few games were worth playing? Hard disagree.

12 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:39 ID: haycbkx

Great system, especially back in the day when arcade perfect (or very close, or even better!) ports weren't as common. This thing may have been a Sega system but it was a Capcom machine for sure.

A lot of its DNA ended up in the original Xbox, where Sega tried to broker a deal with Microsoft for it to play Dreamcast discs in a backwards compatibility mode.

13 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:10 ID: haygtdu

I loved my Dreamcast. I only had a few games on it. But I remember the NFL 2k series was better than Madden, and Tokyo Xtreme Racer was awesome and unlike anything else at the time.

14 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:26 ID: hayj5kk

I loved Sonic adventure

I honestly can’t say I liked much else about it.

15 : Anonymous2021/08/30 19:17 ID: hayqfnh

Power stone wars

16 : Anonymous2021/08/30 20:48 ID: haz3oyw

I played an amazing game called Chao Garden. The whole point of the game was to raise these little blue creatures and transform them using animals. Chao Garden also included a cool platforming side mode where you can run through levels at high speeds and collect emeralds.

ID: haz6xua

Snrk. Come on, Sonic Adventure was actually fun. 😛

ID: haz83po

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are among my favorite games. They are wonderful.

17 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:30 ID: hayb0co

One of my favorite systems. I liked how you could pick your plays for madden on the controller so your oponent couldnt see your options. I also converted it to an nes emulater at one point.

18 : Anonymous2021/08/30 19:54 ID: hayvuqd

Certain models were easy to mod and play burnt games if that was your thing. The batteries on the VMUs died fast. The hardware wasn't the greatest in terms of dependability. I bought one on launch. Skies of Arcadia, Power Stone, Crazy Taxi, and Jet Set Radio. Truly some fun to be had. Sega was determined to bring the arcade feel to home consoles.

19 : Anonymous2021/08/30 20:07 ID: hayxu0n

I think it's good.

I have played games on it.

20 : Anonymous2021/08/30 20:53 ID: haz4h6l

Shenmue changed everything for me.

21 : Anonymous2021/08/30 21:07 ID: haz6dpq

Shenmue

22 : Anonymous2021/08/30 22:02 ID: haze3e8

Sonic was awesome on it. Their use of that little screen for mini games that coincided with what was happening in the main game was mind blowing at the time, too.

23 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:32 ID: hayba1d

Resident Evil Code Veronica was an exclusive for a bit. I remember playing a ton of Marvel vs Capcom to practice for the local arcade. Dynamite Cop was alright. Sonic Adventure kept me busy as well. The second one with the Chous as an end game simulator was also surprisingly in-depth.

Good system and sad it failed. The memory cards were also unique.

24 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:35 ID: haybr1g

Most underrated system ever. Would 100% buy a reboot

25 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:42 ID: haycojc

I skipped on the NES mini, the Genesis minis and even the SNES mini, but a Dreamcast mini (with USB controllers if possible!) would be a day one purchase for me. Far too many memories of my teenage years are tied to that machine.

26 : Anonymous2021/08/30 17:50 ID: haydtzw

I wasn't exposed to other consoles, so I fell in love with the dreamcast. Fur Fighters is my all time favorite

27 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:05 ID: hayg2xx

Unreal tournament was the JAM!!! Jester Radio Future was also cool to me.

28 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:13 ID: hayh6ty

Roommate had one freshman year of college. Played tons of Crazy Taxi and 2K on it. Good times.

29 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:30 ID: hayjppm

Virtua soccer, shenmue and set jet radio

30 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:30 ID: hayjqe0

I played Phantasy Star Online for about a year on this bad boy - my hands never fully recovered.

31 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:39 ID: haykwuc

Such a good console. My dad pirated like the entire game library.

32 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:44 ID: haylpl2

Awesome console. What's up with the one foot cord in the picture though?

ID: haymkds

Lots of weird stock images like that for the Dreamcast. Most have mismatched region colours as well

33 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:46 ID: haylx85

Crazy taxi and phantasy star online!

34 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:47 ID: haym5hz

Me and my bro played quake 3 on this daily

35 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:57 ID: haynkt0

It was so cool.... Sonic, toy commander, RE code veronica, power stone, crazy taxi... I miss them so much

36 : Anonymous2021/08/30 18:58 ID: haynr8g

My dad got it for me when it launched for my birthday and it still is one of my favorite game systems ever made. The VMU was so freaking cool!

37 : Anonymous2021/08/30 19:05 ID: hayorqq

Too good for what happened too it. Kind of a tragedy to be honest.

38 : Anonymous2021/08/30 19:06 ID: hayotag

Crazy taxi was like an addiction
