I gotta say though. I actually enjoyed killing Lycans in RE8 despite the fact that they had never been in a Resident Evil game before. Unless they have? But I didn’t see them anywhere else

It almost seems like the Lycans just kinda wanna be left alone. In all Resident evil games the Zombies pursue you relentless on sight, but the Lycans stay crouched and hold their ground even if they are looking right at you (until you get too close). I’m glad we got those mummified undead things though for a little zombie flavor.

I mean, if a human can transform into a dog creature, then to a T-Rex creature, then to some kind of massive fly abomination, and then finally back to human in RE6, there's nothing that can surprise me.

In fact when if i remember well the word zombie is rarely or never used in Resident Evil. Charaters use the word "infected" before knowing the cause of the outbreak and after "Bio weapons" but zombies is the fan word based on our vision of this monsters.

They called the T Virus human infected zombies because they look like zombies. Same with the C virus infected and the other zombie looking dudes. But the other stuff? No. They don't call them zombies because it wouldn't make sense to call a licker a zombie.
