ID: hcmdwtoYou're delusional if you think AMD is the "good guy" or something. They both play to the market. AMD has no reason to release anything any time soon. This is entirely intentional since there's competition in the $10,000 workstation market from Intel.
ID: hcoebq1Plus it's been 21 months since the Zen 2 ThreadRippers hit. They have been sitting on this refresh. None of the other gens took over a year, approaching 2 to come out.
Availability is now where I can pick up Zen 3 CPUs, just not in the sockets I need obviously. I'm waiting while working with dying hardware, and this is getting to me more an more each day, when I refresh news outlets and see no announcements. Just bench leaks at best. This is like the 3rd month of it showing in the wild.

Eh, 25% isn't "thrashes" IMO... Given that title I was expecting, well, an unexpected performance increase.

ID: hcml81kThat's certainly one of the things I'm interested in. I use TR because of the platform, not because I need a particularly high number of cores, and I'm really interested to see how the Zen 3 latency benefits for gaming translate over to TR.
But being more than ~19% ahead does raise some interesting questions. Is this test just something that benefits a lot from more cache, or does TR 5000 have notably higher clock speeds?
Honestly, it's well past time for AMD to announce the damn chips.
ID: hcls5p7That's mostly how we've been contextualizing modern processor improvements for the last decade or so, since we've stopped receiving actually massive performance increases.
25% is decent these days, and it'll be called a trashing by some. It's all relative.
Even going from my 1700 to something like a 5800X will only bring at most a doubling in performance, but otherwise it'll be under that for most applications. I would notice it, but it wouldn't rock my socks off. If I'd want an actually massive improvement in performance, I'd have to hold off for yet another generation or two.

The really weird part is zen 3 threadrippers still aren't out yet, it's been 10 months since the launch of zen 3. It was more of an Intel thing, for HEDT to lag months behind desktop launches, way back when HEDT was alive.
Yes, yes, supply constraints and all that, but TR and TR Pro aren't exactly a volume product. Surely AMD could have spared a bit of good chiplets for a halo product that Jayz2cents can build a watercooled rig with even bigger Cinebench numbers.
