- Deathloop reviewed as “Essential” by Eurogamer
-
I for one am just happy that Arkane Studios apparently are still at their best, there were some rather ominous signs that they might have passed their zenith...
-
What sucks about this is that it's the last Arkane game ever to be on PlayStation.
This might be the biggest steal for Microsoft.
ID: hcqy4d2ID: hcqaogwya huge bummer for PS folks.... Microsoft making smart moves lately, by next gen I might hop back on xbox train
ID: hcqbiloI'd argue it's the only smart move they've made.
Outside of the Bethesda catalogue, there's nothing really piquing my interest on Xbox.
I have a Series X, and have dabbled on the occasional Game Pass title, but PS5 gets most of my time.
ID: hcqre8jJust get a pc man. Yes more expensive but u get all Xbox exclusives plus all those pc games u can’t play on console
ID: hcqevlsI still like Playstation - hence why I'm here lol, but I don't think I'll end up buying a PS5. At least not before we are nearing its end.
Bethesda games are still my most played games, so when it was announced that Microsoft had bought them I decided to keep putting money away to buy a PC instead. Microsoft has made some big moves. Kinda sad to see existing franchises and developers I've loved turn into exclusive companies, but next gen looks great for both and that ultimately is for the best.
ID: hcr5kbvI mean if you can afford to get a PC one year, unless you're in a shitty financial state down the line, you can probably afford a PS5 another year.

I don't have much of an opinion on either the game or the review, but to me it seems strange to rate a game as "Essential".
ID: hcp4f7pI fill vending machines and the US government rated me as “Essential”
ID: hcpxsf1Thank you for your service.
ID: hcpc8ewSo you’re basically a pharmacist for a lot of people, makes sense
ID: hcq9phlI put picture of decorative ceramic tile on Facebook and my Gov. said I was essential.
ID: hcp6q3hThey got rid of the traditional review score system and just use “essential” “recommended” nothing or “avoid”
ID: hcpb7htWhich is effectively the same as any other game review site considering those only really ever use 7, 8, 9, 10 unless the game is a dumpster fire.
ID: hcpb13zIt basically means "This is a game that you should absolutely be playing if you own a platform that can play this game".
ID: hcpdtvuIt's just a different way of saying what games they liked more (or didn't like as much) instead of applying numbers. Every scoring system is arbitrary in some way and can be argued about.
ID: hcpygrfEssential experience for the "open minded gamer" I'm assuming.
ID: hcqf2ibI mean it's obviously not meant as an essential item to survive... but in a gaming sense.
Not that strange to me, as it's basically just "a must play" - or is that strange too?
ID: hcqm4pzTo me, it's strange. There's not a single game I have ever played that I consider a "must play". There's no music, art, movie, book, or whatever (for purposes of entertainment--of course, there are probably things one should consider essential in certain fields of endeavor) I consider to be "essential".
ID: hcpw0venot any weirder than giving it an arbitrary number, honestly. At least 'Essential' is a label that has depth and asks for consideration rather than quanitifcation.

Meanwhile, the CDC calls Deathloop “mandatory.”
-
Only about 2hrs in but ai leaves a lot to be desired with how easy it is to just walk up on people

It’s amazing how such an enormously well reviewed game was made to look quite so tedious by all the pre-release videos. Time for marketing heads to roll?
ID: hcpfuk6Never once looked that way for me and plenty of others. Matter of fact they looked really good.
ID: hcpla9jMy biggest issue with the trailers is just how far they went to explain, in excruciating detail, the time loop mechanic. They basically walked you through a whole major storyline and then it seemed like they were going down that path with the latest trailer as well, so I skipped it.
All I really needed to know was: it’s just like our other games with a time loop twist. I don’t need to know how many targets there are or that I’ll need to do things in a particular order (or orders, there’s likely multiple paths to victory) to win.
That’s my take on it at least. The trailers definitely sold me on the game, so job done, but could have left out more details for me.
ID: hcpm5dtNever heard anybody call it tedious. I think we were all just hoping for a different game to be in the last few PS presentations since there’s been 10 trailers for it
ID: hcqlkirWhy would heads roll? The game is going to be a massive success. Heads would only roll if people don’t buy it because of the marketing.
ID: hcqd038Never felt that way to me, nothing about it looked tedious. Imo a majority of the gaming community has this weird habit of predefining the quality of games before they've played them or been finished, and base it all off of small snippets and pre conceived notions. Always with overly positive (see Cyberpunk) or Overly Negative(see Deathloop) reactionary opinions and if not they call everything else generic whether it is or is not generic.
The reactions to the gameplays imo stemmed more from the circumstances surrounding Arkane and not the actual game itself. The reactions from game to game doesn't even feel all that consistent, more bipolar than anything.
-
I'm buying it despite not being a huge fan of this concept BUT from the gameplay/review/trailers the graphics really don't look that great. Colors are very dull and washed out and character models look meh. Am I the only one who thinks this?
ID: hcr12ocI'd say it sounds like you should wait to buy it then.
-
I have a nice PC too but I’m grabbing this on PS5 so I can take advantage of the dualsense features. Literally pre-ordered a physical copy today after seeing these reviews. Could’ve gone digital and guaranteed my ability to play it tomorrow but I’ll wait since I like physicals. I’m glad this game seems to have lived up to its potential.
-
Just remember all these reviewers were also the same ones who gave Cyberpunk 2077 9/10s and 10/10s. They all have lost credibility. Anyone who falls for these scams paid for by big publishers like MS deserve whats coming to them when they get buyer's remorse
ID: hcpi0gvTo be fair Gamespot gave cyberpunk a 7 and gave this a 10
ID: hcpm02aThe metacritic score for cyberpunk on PC lines up pretty closely with those scores though… the problem is CDPR wouldn’t let them play anything else besides the PC version which was way better than on console.
Also, let’s not forget that these sites aren’t hiveminds, reviews are just an individual reviewers opinion of a game
ID: hcpod1xTo be fair Cyberpunk is a solid 9/10 on PS5/X despite its shortcomings.
ID: hcqmks5Homie it was a solid 7/10 on my PC with a 3080. Performance wasn't the only issue with the game
And I say that as someone who loved the game and is hoping that it gets a sequel. One that actually is finished at launch.
ID: hcq2qbgThis has to be a joke.
ID: hcpolm0To be fair it is a solid 6/10 despite its shortcomings. (You had the 9 upside down. FTFY.)
ID: hcq2yusThey were only given PC copies to review for CP2077, where it was in fact a 9ish/10 game. Blame CDPR for blocking the console versions from review
ID: hcqqyqcOf course it’s all subjective but even without performance issues the story and quests in that game were also not worthy of anywhere near a 9 or 10 in my opinion.
ID: hcq35gzOk so dont get it? Idk what your deal is lol like you seem a bit over the top about this.
ID: hcqjuyxyou came to a review thread to say that reviews can't be trusted? gamers are truly delirious
-
But I’ve only just started Hades, and Elden Ring is coming in a few months! Is it ok if I play this in a couple of years, Eurogamer?
ID: hcqka15No it's essential. The only things you need are food, water, oxygen, and Deathloop
-
Hardcore doubt.
To much inside baseball going on atm.

ID: hcp9te2Thank you for letting us know...?
ID: hcpab63Good thing this isn't a gamestar article then?
-
If it’s “essential” it will be free on PS+ in a few months to a year. I’ll wait. Arkane’s games have been fine, but not necessarily “essential” to my personal gaming tastes.
-
Since its a Microsoft game, that is rather unlikely to happen.
-
It’s not, actually, which is why this isn’t making a debut on Xbox. It’s a time le exclusive and if Microsoft had completely control over this it would never have made it onto Ps5.
We can surmise from this that while Microsoft has bought Bethesda out for future titles that will be exclusive to Xbox and Windows it did not negate/buy Bethesda out of contracts already penned with Sony and if they have a timed exclusive contract with Sony then it’s going to be a PS+ game because that is most likely part of the contract, especially with the amount of air time this thing is getting.

If the game is good does it matter.
-
Loads of well reviewed games scored very well and turned out to be turds. Have people really forgotten about Cyberpunk already. Are gamers really that gullible?

Thats why its getting reviewed well. The unlimited MS money coming out to spoil these corrupt reviewers with gifts and bribes
-
This is legit crazytown conspiracy shit
-
If it makes you feel better, other publications have given it high marks too.
-
Hey if you don't like this game feel free to scroll past these articles. I've seen you hating on this game in multiple posts now just to stir shit up.

Sure mate, I payed for those steam reviews
-
If only I had an “essential” ps5 first
-
I watched 30 mins of the 7hr full walkthrough on YouTube whilst doing the ironing. Didn't seem essential.
Then again I'm not necessarily a shooter fan xD

Good for them, more competition the better for us
