I don’t think I’ve seen such a minor, insignificant change like this create such a huge uproar in the gaming community and such an enormous rush for everybody to try and cash in on it by putting out their own videos.

ID: hd38qp8

It's been a fixation ever since Windows Central's Jez Corden and Daniel Rubino amplified a rumor that pre launch PS5s were overheating and catching fire. The rumour was sourced to a console warrior on YouTube with a history of spreading false info.

Outrage culture.

ID: hd393g7

This kind of panic comes from when a lot of people don't understand how things work.

I used to think people would be better with the computers as time went on but I realize it's the opposite now that you don't have to know a lot about tech to use it.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing!

Computers are a tool, and the point of it is ultimately to save time.

But expensive things that are complicated can create a lot of fear, especially when corporations are trusted so little these days.

I think Sony cares more about their customers more than Microsoft but I think it's just a cultural difference between American and Japanese companies.

Microsoft has tried to get away with some really loose quality standards in the past, not that either are perfect.

But PlayStation is a bigger brand and sells more units in general, I think the sheer volume of units will help figure out any design issues faster.

Long story short, try to understand how things you are on tested in work - cars, music, consoles, smartphones, game design etc.

It will save you money and could lead to new and exciting hobbies and career opportunities!

Have they? Curious to know what they tried to get away with.

The US side headed up hardware development of the PS5.

ID: hd3n9j3

People pay way too much attention to this stuff.

ID: hd3kq7m

Gamers on the Internet love jumping to conclusions.

ID: hd39kfv

There was a huge uproar when people were blowing their vapes through the bottom of XSX and filming the smoke coming out of the top saying they were catching fire.

Tempest in a teapot compared to the endless FUD PlayStation has faced.

BoM rising beyond control (>$600 price tag)
Lacks hardware accelerated raytracing
RDNA 1
9TFlops
Last minute clock boost
Overheating
Hard to develop for

It goes on and on..

All the Austin Evans bs finally laid to rest.

4 : Anonymous2021/09/16 16:38 ID: hd3is6k

Watch Austin Evans go "ok but In My OpInIoN it's still worse BeCaUse...."

5 : Anonymous2021/09/16 19:06 ID: hd44q2k

Love me some GN

6 : Anonymous2021/09/16 17:58 ID: hd3uo0q

Austin really blew this. It's one of the reason why you should not speak about stuff you don't understand.

Every measurement is exactly similar and variance within acceptable amout. Coolers are running at 18-20% which can be pumped up if Sony thinks it is necessary.

It's almost as if Sony engineers knew something about Engineering. Austin had his attention on this which he wanted and now this nonsense should be put to bed

For those saying SoC runs slightly hot should understand that they have to reapply liquid metal which can cause variance. So without access to sensor reading, SOC temp difference of 2-3 c is not worth discussing

ID: hd4sxy2

Austin really blew this.

Did he? He got the clicks he wanted, and the truth we see here has got none of the traffic the original misinformation had generated. It's hard to see his content will see any sharp decline over this.

It's the same old story, no matter the subject. The lie gets the headlines while the correction dies alone, tucked away in the corner.

The only way this gets anywhere is if Austin himself actually addresses it, which if you've ever been in the engagement game, you know is the worst thing you can do (never back down, never apologise). The only time you do address it is if the blowback threatens to upend everything if left alone, which let us be honest, this isn't going to happen over videogames.

PS5 FUD has been the easiest headline to generate engagement with and has been true since early 2020. You'd think it would have died down once PS5 launched, but it has only accelerated.

ID: hd4xlmx

If anything we now have an example to show he isn't credible for this type of information in the future.

7 : Anonymous2021/09/16 15:10 ID: hd35is3

tl dw?

ID: hd35smt

Lots of testing to conclude there seems to be no real world difference between old and new PS5 thermals or performance and there's no recommendation to get a specific model. We're all fine.

ID: hd3dw3q

Most important is that, Steve's so super into the details of kit he looks at that he's forced a couple of hardware companies to eat crow and recall products. If there were negative consequences of the change, he'd find it.

ID: hd3a8t7

makes sense, appreciate it.

8 : Anonymous2021/09/16 15:37 ID: hd39kx1

omg wow ......it Sounds like Sony engineers know what they are doing. They won't be putting out a worst product less than 1 year in lol.

cant wait for the next fake outrage to pop up.

ID: hd3bgdn

Of course they would not do that.

But this version its not better and didn't fix the high temperature rams.

ID: hd3ewxm

Are there any reported issues with the RAM, yet?

ID: hd3jjaj

GN's testing did seem to show very slightly better memory temperatures. Not anything to get worked up about though. More importantly it showed that a fan change Sony made months ago has had an even bigger positive impact.

Should also be noted that Sony is only running the fan at like 20% power. If they find temps are a problem they can always increase fan speed (and noise) with a firmware update.

Tom Warren searching relentlessly for a new Sony BAD rumour to tweet or publish an article about.

ID: hd3krwk

I recently saw a Gamespot article that somehow tried to make the fact that the Xbox still uses AA batteries a good thing.

ID: hd4kuh4

I really hate it that the use of those is rare these days.
Its the only reason why i use on the go still wired headphones.
Cause i dont want to replace them in a couple of years cause the battery is dead and you cant simply replace them with a new one from the Manufacturer.

ID: hd3mg3q

Honestly I also think it is.

Mostly because after throwing the controller to the garbage after the end of its life cycle you can easily separate the batteries and the controller. And I wish this would also be the case with new premium smartphones.

ID: hd3o3i6

it's still a good thing though. LOL it's a matter of preference

ID: hd3vixh

But it is.

10 : Anonymous2021/09/16 16:05 ID: hd3dudl

the ps5 could fart and we would see a hundred videos and discussions about it. gotta love it.

ID: hd460ot

…..I get your point but if a ps5 farted, yes I think discussion would be expected in that case

ID: hd4eixv

Okay, but do the farts smell like Aloy?

ID: hd4yy45

Yes, but the one with the hamster cheeks. Not the attractive one.

11 : Anonymous2021/09/16 17:48 ID: hd3t6wh

TLDR: Both versions are fundamentally the same and just as out of stock.

12 : Anonymous2021/09/16 16:13 ID: hd3ey6i

Always love me a good hardware deep-dive by GN

Eat shit Austin

youtubers have made so much money these 2 years because of fanboys arguing over ridiculous things…its amazing how stupid we humans have become

ID: hd4l5mt

They where always that stupid its just easier to spread the stupidity.

Every village has an idiot, but the Internet allows them to form their own village, unfortunately.

15 : Anonymous2021/09/16 17:50 ID: hd3tju6

After fully watching both videos, I personally interpreted the following:

The new SKU has cooler memory and VRM mosfet but hotter SoC. As per Gamers Nexus video.

There is a small 1 sometimes 2 frame difference when dynamic framerate is used. Higher framerate for the launch SKU except when more memory is needed, like instances using particle effects. That will have a slightly higher framerate for new SKU. As per Digital Foundry video.

The difference is so small, it doesn't matter though. Both SKUs are excellent and will do the job just fine.

ID: hd4h6ic

Your interpretation is wrong. The difference in temperature on the SOC or memory have no bearing whatsoever on performance.

ID: hd4onww

Then why did DF point out a difference in performance when there was particle effects? Why did the launch SKU have more frames in other instances?

16 : Anonymous2021/09/16 15:56 ID: hd3cj8q

Still, talking about this nonsense?

17 : Anonymous2021/09/16 16:34 ID: hd3i341

Oh my god, there must be a billion videos about that sink change by now. The internet has nothing better to do it seems
