- God of War Ragnarok to Feature Different Shields, Devs Want to “Open Up” How Gamers Handle Kratos’ Loadouts
-
GoT style please.
-
As a shield nerd, this pleases me greatly.
-
An additional shield? Best news I’ve heard all week. I wish I could upvote this more.
-
The light elf looks sick. God of war has one of the best character design in the industry
-
I hope if they start down this path they don't make it to where the other gear gets completely outclassed. I love the Leviathan Axe more than any melee weapon in any game so far.
-
Meanwhile, let us pull back the camera during combat so that we can see more of the combat field instead of Kratos back. Kratos back covering 1/3rd of the screen during combat is not acceptable, at least to me.
-
It definitely doesn't cover 1/3rd of the screen come on
-
Yeah it doesn't. Its an over exaggeratiion. But, still, not fond of upclose and personal camera angle.
-
Nah you're so far wrong, the over the shoulder cam was incredibly immersive, super nice change of perspective in a 3rd person game.
-
It’s about as immersive as driving a car without rear view mirrors.
It’s more important for the player to see what’s happening in the middle of combat, rather than constantly check a threat circle.
The Arkham games had a good balance and were immersive because of it, the camera would remain close when moving and cinematics but would pan out and give a clear view when in a fight.

Yeah. So immersive that I stopped playing 2018 version mid way through simply because of the stupid ass camera during combat. I'm just asking for an option to pull back the camera. You guys can enjoy your weird ass "immersiveness" without any issues as well.
-
It’d be nice if the ps5 version let you up the FOV so you can see more of what’s going on
-
I agree with you but they’re never gonna change that. The gameplay is secondary to the “story experience”
-
The game has fantastic gameplay/combat and is highly praised for it
-
What! The gameplay was fantastic and the next game looks to improve on it.
-
Yeah. TLOU and GoW both suffered from average at best gameplay due to the heavy focus on narrative. For someone like me, who skips 90% of the cutscenes anyway, that decision of narrative over gameplay isn't helping much.
-
lmao how is the gameplay secondary. Had some of the best combat mechanics of any game. They’ve made a creative decision about the camera but that doesn’t come at the cost of the gameplay at all.
-
I wonder if the ps4 hardware was a reason why this was instituted.
I enjoyed that look a lot, but wondering if that was brought to bear due to the horrible Jaguar.
-
I was no fan of GoW because of how little effect the RPG elements had in regards to gameplay, they just made what you were doing slightly faster.
While I do miss core hack and slash games (other than DMC or Bayonetta, there aren’t really any games like that anymore) I’m happy to see GoW make up its mind and be more RPG centric. Just makes the design more cohesive than it was before.
Full ass one thing, don’t half ass two things, that was the biggest fault of the previous game thar prevented me from enjoying it.
-
Its my favorite game ever but the RPG elements were not its strongest features (understandably).
-
It’s because it wanted to be a RPG and a Hack’N’Slash game and succeeded at neither, at least in my opinion. Weapons and combat wasn’t deep enough for a hack’n’slash and the RPG elements just didn’t add enough variation in play style to be a good RPG.
-
Sounds like you just didn't commit to one build.
-
What build? I’m genuinely confused by this. There weren’t any builds, just more numbers.
Take two bits of high end, equally levelled gear and the difference is minimal.
It’s not like a proper RPG where you could tanky but low damage, a glass canon, ranged etc. Just go with the gear that gives the best numbers and do what you were doing before.
-
You’re able to beat the game in most modes without even changing your gear. Just gaining levels naturally and equipping new runics is enough to finish the entire game. The RPG elements make most of a difference for post game content and GMGOW mode.
-
Hope he doesn't have to relearn everything he just learned again.
-
Oh no. It's gonna be even more complex and full of items...
-
This is basically gonna turn into ac Valhalla
-
Or you know GOW 1-3 which had a ton of unique weapons.
-
Man I hope they fix up combat in general, that shit was so boring in the PS4 game
-
I get that certain bosses may have been repetitive but the combat as a whole kept me engaged the whole way through. What made you think it was boring?
-
Which bosses? I'm playing through currently and have died at this same boss about thirty times. Too stubborn to go down a difficulty level. The point is, I literally kept playing the boss battle because the combat is so much fun.
-
If you found the combat boring it’s because you’re bad at the game
-
Agreed.
-
Ok now fix the camera though. That's the main design flaw of the game...
edit: damn to the slavish fans downvoting a mild criticism to hell, please watch this video lol:
-
What??
-
See my comment to yummybutter toast below.
-
What didn’t you like about the camera?
-
Literally nobody agrees with you
-
Actually, a shit ton of people agree with them. The camera is trash in combat, there’s no two ways about it. The combat still manages to be good but that’s in spite of the camera, not because of it.
-
No, *you* don't agree with me. Btw, the studio and other devs on the
team replied to this video and said it made all good points and they
took it into strong consideration. Learn something for once instead of
commenting confidently to strangers on the internet. -
Agreed, camera was absolute shite
-
Good. Options are nice, I like options
-
Can I dual wield a blade and the leviathan axe? That'd make for some pretty sweet combos.
-
Are they gonna add some more variety to the enemies that you actually use the loadout on? If not, theres still gonna be that moment when it gets repetitive and tedious.
-
Thought I saw a shield in that trailer when he slams it down I figured this was coming, very cool
-
Can you fucking jump in this game ? FFS
-
idk why but hearing the term “loadout” being used to describe anything in a GOW game kinda bums me out
-
I see what you mean, but the prior game also had loadouts, and that was awesome
