our family uses 2 ryzen cpu, Im using a ryzen 5 2600 and my brother is 2700, I got mine for 100 cad (80usd)and 2700 for 170 cad (130usd) both was around this time last year, I found another ryzen 2700 for sale at the same price 170 cad 130 usd, should I buy it or are they not as good as what is to come?
like I see 5000, so like what now? I know the first and second gen is like 14nano and the newest is 7, should I be upgrading for later or is this good for say next 5 years?

I dont think so if you can afford 5xxx
if you care about Win 11 but that's one factor more to consider
For next 5 years that is hard to know but i believe that series 5000 will perform well for next 3 years for sure

Considering that Windows 11 doesn't officially support Ryzen 1st and 2nd Gen... I wouldn't buy Ryzen 1000 and Ryzen 2000 anymore. Atleast Ryzen 3000. If we are talking about 5 years or more I would actually opt for Ryzen 5000 just because you most definitely won't have any problems with Ryzen 5000 in the next 5 years.
ID: hf5b9xnID: hf5c5j8Oh you're right. Well atleast partially. Zen 1 isn't supported, Zen 2 is. Ryzen 2400G for example is a Ryzen 2000 CPU but Zen 1 based. I was wrong with saying Ryzen 2000 isn't supported at all tho, I'm sorry.
ID: hf54eqiok thanks, I have a question about first gen ryzen, I had a 1200 and I was playing overwatch and saw pretty bad fps, it was about the same as my i5 3550, is that just due to it being new right? does all gen 1 suffer from this?
ID: hf557biUhm... R3 1200 is pretty entry level tbh. It's good for some multitasking office use, but definitely not suited for high FPS gaming tho...
ID: hf5bef5The Ryzen 1200 and i5 3550 are around the same performance so this is expected.

I would also lean toward the Ryzen 5000 as it is a more modern architecture.
Windows 11 has run smoothly on my Ryzen 5000 since release.
As for the 5 year viability, I think that will heavily depend on 5000 model you select.

Depends on what you’re gonna use it for. If you’re gonna be gaming, I’d get a 3700X. New consoles use a variant of that CPU and that will probably be the minimum requirement for games 3-4 years from now

I would rather get a Ryzen 5 3600 than a Ryzen 7 2700

It does officially support 2nd gen, just not 1st gen.
