Oh I can hear the treble of those speakers.
ID: hgwtx1kID: hgwu52sFuck yeah. Intel pentium CPU, 133MHz ram, 10Gb hard disk. Having to exit Windows to launch the game from DOS.
Yeah I was there.
ID: hgx7glcNo, just remember the rich kids getting A's for their cut and paste reports off of encarta and the plebs like me spending hrs in the library finding loosely connected information to get average marks. And no... I didn't have a colour printer either....
ID: hgwulelThis comment sent me back
ID: hgwuzn1How old were you when you got your first computer?
ID: hgx6tbjDang, look at all the rich kids everyone...

I can smell the turbo button...

But before we didn’t pay attention to graphics, multiplayer and plot endings, we just came to the computer club and played for hours
ID: hgwvbwvAmazing graphics don’t make a game good. It just makes it pretty.
I still remember the joy of playing Marathon, Doom, and Unreal. I am old enough to remember when games were on cassette tapes. When you played the game and we’re done, you had to rewind to play again. Good old Vic 20.
ID: hgwvly4Yes, I also remember the first consoles with cartridges and a pistol that need to shoot at flying ducks, modern games are not so memorable
-
So many childhood memories of that and Wolfenstein 3D
ID: hgwye2yyes you are right, I remember this game
-
Nothing stopping you right now from booting up Doom.
ID: hgwx40wImpressions will be different, 10 years ago we had no idea about 4K graphics or about unreal engine 5
-
I don't. It looks pretty dark and scary.
ID: hgwu7fpThis is the childhood of many gamers)
-
Me too man… me too…
ID: hgwurkuNow there are thousands of games on Steam and sometimes you don't know what to play, and before you had only 2 games and you played them 100%
ID: hgwwf8vAnd just the excitement of having an “arcade” in your home for the first time ever… and the satisfying feeling of putting the CD-rom in to physically install it on your hard disk not just stream it… it was… MINE…

-
I'm right there. Along with Myst, and Wolfenstein being the only PC games around this time I remember getting to experience.
-
I have 2 PC's built for my retro needs I have a Pentium 166 with all my old games on it ready to go when I need my fix of doom 2 it's always better in dos with a sound blaster no port can ever beat the experience
-
Don't forget to get that autoexec.bat file dialed in
-
I wish I lived in this era. Unfortunately, i was born in 2007.
-
You may not be able to go back to Doom, but you can always Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
-
If you only bought the cheap shareware spindle version you'd get like 1/5th of the game

I'm fine living in 2021. Where we have more than 4 good games to play. Steam...the internet.
ID: hgwwx7nThere were hundreds of good games to play in 1993 but ok sure.

Do you remember those huge mice with a ball? Modern streamers would be horrified by this
ID: hgx430bYou mean 'ergonomic' to the point where no one wanted to use it
