Final update DPC latency spike caused by two monitors

1 ： Anonymous：2021/10/28 08:43 ID: qhiiy4: After doing a bunch of testing, I've concluded that the issue is indeed a driver related one. In the previous thread (you can find a video displaying the behaviour on the previous thread) I tested a bunch of things that could be causing the issue and found out that my second screen was the culprit. The work around was to not display animations on the second screen or to disconnect it. Now after further testing I've found that that if I enable eyefinity, the DPC latency spike also doesnt happen, which leads me to believe that the issue is mainly caused by GPU acceleration. On Nvidias side there is an option that can be enabled to allow for GPU acceleration on multiple screens, but as far as I know no such thing exists for AMD. I've been in contact with AMD support and hopefully they can provide a fix to this issue.

I contacted AMD since I made the first post, so about 5months ago, also reported it on the bug report thing on the Adrenaline software but the issue still persists. I have 0 faith they gonna fix it anytime soon.

I had problems using a vega 56 back then when using 2 different monitors @ different refresh rates and that issue has been solved 1 or 2 months ago, they literally took years to fix it.

so if you run browser with gpu acceleration off you get no spikes?

Currently using edge and the answer is yes. With GPU acceleration off and displaying a video, the dxgkrnl.sys driver almost never spikes above 1ms, mostly 800us.

Could this be related to the pesky bug on refresh rates across multiple monitors with different refresh rates? I've noticed that any GPU-accelerated app on a 60Hz will tear a new one to your frames on the 144Hz main monitor.

I tried having them on 75hz and 60, but nothing worked. It might be related, but I dont know.

did you try disabling CPPC and prefered cores? This was in issue with zen 2..

in bios.. you turn it off both CPPC and CPPC Prefered Cores.. this was an issue that 3900x owner reported at its release.. but its possible its fixed.. well should be fixed.. anyway i run CPPC off ..ive checked my performance and i get no loss..

I currently have the latest chipset driver installed, if thats what causing the issue, then I dont think that's the case. I'll test later, that said where can I change these settings.

You can find the solution in this thread. If my assumptions are correct, this could also be whats actually causing my issue (and perhaps that of other setups).

I have this with 1 monitor, although in my case it's extremely rare overall. Like maybe once every 2 weeks with 8 hours a day usage of my PC, and it lasts for about 3 seconds.

Driver conflicts can cause this also. If you keep experience this, try updating drivers and also bios.

I think it's a Nvidia 3000 series issue or a PCIE Gen 4 bug, since I never had this issue when I had my 1070 installed. It's been happening less since the last two Nvidia drivers, so that's an improvement I suppose.

dwm in Windows 11 handles that much better, it's smooth smooth here on 11, as opposed to 10.

Currently only available on UWP drivers and comes with its own share of instability.

I have the same problem as you and thought I was imagining it. I think it's been happening since 21.10.1 which incidentally added SAM/REBAR support for my 5700XT. Hmm.
