Since 2015 been with the same i7 6700k. Today I just experienced the full force of a Ryzen 5800x paired with a 6900XT, I was blown away with how good the frame rates are.

What will you do with the i7 and 1080ti?

ID: hjjhu1o

I feel as if I will sell them both, I just like to wait a while before I sell old parts h til I make sure the new ones are working properly

ID: hjjkvoy

use 1080 ti as second card LOL

ID: hjkfl2d

Could always mine to make back some of the money spent..

ID: hjkcu3e

put it on 2nd slot and run nicehash, thats liek passive 90$ a month without doing anything

3 : Anonymous2021/11/06 12:10 ID: hjji1tx

Lol i would kill for your "old" build rn

ID: hjkeusk

Seriously. Im i5 4590 with r9 390 legacy.

Just keep waiting for prices to go down... I'm sure it will be soon... Right?

ID: hjkmg4n

I would kill even for that

ID: hjl30el

Fx8350 and nitro 580 4gb here. Currently waiting on GPU to come more instock and reasonably priced. I feels like its never gonna happen though...

ID: hjkob33

I had that CPU. Now my parents use it. It's still damn good in its performance, I'm surprised how little things have improved in so many years. On Geekbench it even scored higher than the Ryzen 5 2500U. I get that laptop low power CPU is just worse, but still, so much time and it's still a beast.

I used that CPU with a r9 285. Good times, warm winters, and this was just 6-7 years ago.

I hope prices go down, and you'll be able to strike a good bargain for something newer soon.

ID: hjkbcye

Ikr, what I consider a good pc is what others would definitely consider trash. A whole other world lol

4 : Anonymous2021/11/06 13:06 ID: hjjnzzk

Congrat! I changed from 6700K + 1080 Ti to 5900X + 6800XT, it's a whole new world!

5 : Anonymous2021/11/06 12:05 ID: hjjhm0x

It a solid build that will last you another 5 years. You are going to have a blast gaming without worry.

ID: hjko23u

More like 10, your build doesn't always have to be top of the line to enjoy. I'm on a 1060 6gb still enjoying AAA games, and I game on 1440p.

6 : Anonymous2021/11/06 13:03 ID: hjjnoqy

Congrats man! I went from a 3930k with a 980ti to a 5900x and a 3090, felt amazing.

7 : Anonymous2021/11/06 14:53 ID: hjk1xh7

Ey we made similar switches. I sent from a 7700k + 1080Ti to a 5800x + 6800xt. The fps boost going to this generation was definitely substantial

8 : Anonymous2021/11/06 11:46 ID: hjjfq66

Welcome to the club.

9 : Anonymous2021/11/06 13:51 ID: hjjtl3w

Congratulations on the new PC! I have the same CPU, and I absolutely love it!

One comment on the cooler of the CPU tho, my 5800x runs fairly hot and so I am not sure your current cooler is sufficient. I had throttling issues with scythe mugen 5 cooler, and therefore I upgraded to the scythe fuma 2. However it is a hot cpu, so don't expect under 80c in games and other workloads, it is totally fine!

ID: hjjwbb3

My room has a fairly cold ambient but I do plan on getting a better cooler, I can’t use my CLC without the am4 bracket but my CLC is also 6 years old and probably could die soon even though it still works,

ID: hjl4c6x

Got the same 5800x & 6900XT combo, and I use an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 aio to cool the cpu. Can whole-heartedly recommend.

ID: hjlfm5h

As another 5800X owner, yeah that cooler isn’t going to cut it. You have premium parts, get a premium cooler.

Bonus to buying this is that Noctua will give you free brackets as platforms change (from what I’ve heard) so you’ll be able to keep this for a long time.

Noctua NH-U12A chromax.Black, 120mm Single-Tower CPU Cooler (Black)

I keep them on a wall table cuz many of them are really nicely designed

ID: hjj46qw

I eventually resell my parts. else I would throw them away.

ID: hjjmb3h

Me too. If they're good enough to repurpose I suppose you could always build some assemblance of a PC for friends or family too.

11 : Anonymous2021/11/06 10:36 ID: hjj9s7r

How much did you pay for the 5800x?

12 : Anonymous2021/11/06 12:37 ID: hjjkrp4

we have the same psu but i have the 750 lmao

ID: hjjwg7r

It’s a good psu (and the bare minimum for me to even use this gpu, I literally had to add a third cable for the gpu lol)

13 : Anonymous2021/11/06 13:30 ID: hjjr0kp

I had that same 1080ti MSI Gaming X, great card.

I remember walking into the shop to buy one because I couldn't find a Vega 56 or 64 anywhere. I thought it was expensive, but I wanted something to run my new sim racing VR obsession. Amazing to think that now you'd only be able to get a mid range card, if that, for the same money. We will never see value like the 1080ti again.

14 : Anonymous2021/11/06 08:22 ID: hjizovk

Nice build. How much was the 6900xt if you don’t mind me asking?

ID: hjj014p

Thanks! I wanna say after tax it was close to 1100

ID: hjjymrz

Bro you got this card for 1100? The cheapest I've found in the US is 1649 ordering from Newegg and one of their vendors damn

ID: hjj3ymo

Curious which currency?

15 : Anonymous2021/11/06 09:24 ID: hjj49bb

5800x is 299.99 at microcenter

ID: hjji8ii

Yeah I got it on sale, i was gonna get 5600x but it was so cheap and since I’m a power users I said screw it I’ll just get the 8 core lol

ID: hjl3ige

$20 more for the 5800x is hard to pass up.

Don't forget to enable SAM on your MB BIOS and set the IF speed to match your RAM (ex: 3600MT/s -> 1800 MHz)

16 : Anonymous2021/11/06 14:14 ID: hjjwj5o

man thats exciting im happy for you

17 : Anonymous2021/11/06 14:24 ID: hjjxvgk

1080ti user here. Roughly what % better is the 6900xt vs the 1080ti? Hard to keep up with all these new fangled parts. All I know is, I had to turn cyberpunk settings down, which feels shameful

ID: hjjz5bn

My 1080ti would hardly ever go above 30-40 on ultra, This new setup I can run ultra consistently with up to 100 fps in some instances but usually around 90s at 1440p, I had to use a 2700 to update my bios but the performance from that was abysmal before I got the 5800x so Cyberpunk is really CPU dep too

Additionally I am able to turn ray tracing on, there’s a YouTube video that shows you how to get 60 fps with medium ray tracing via 1080p upscaling at 1440p but I prefer 90+ fps as I run 165hz, the 1080ti was cool but I did not like having to turn everything down to medium with it =[

18 : Anonymous2021/11/06 14:27 ID: hjjye74

Ugh this is the GPU I've been after..

19 : Anonymous2021/11/06 14:40 ID: hjk02db

microcenter has the 5800x for 299 today, did you get it there?

ID: hjk0tqx

Yeah best deal!

20 : Anonymous2021/11/06 15:29 ID: hjk6v5c

I picked up that same combo yesterday to replace my old i5 6500 and 1060 3gb version. I can't wait to finish putting it together today.

21 : Anonymous2021/11/06 16:55 ID: hjkiu5l

Dang, actually paid aib pricing for a 6900xt huh?

22 : Anonymous2021/11/06 17:37 ID: hjkoyqq

What was your old GPU tho. That CPU is still a beast.

23 : Anonymous2021/11/06 18:10 ID: hjkthju

The 1080ti was the sweet spot for so long. People still just want that level of performance

24 : Anonymous2021/11/06 18:49 ID: hjkyy3v

Another one to the Red Team. Welcome friend

25 : Anonymous2021/11/06 19:13 ID: hjl26yf

It's a good CPU, just don't forget to adjust PBO limits.

26 : Anonymous2021/11/06 19:28 ID: hjl47qb

I just recently upgraded to a 6700k and 1080ti myself hahaha.

27 : Anonymous2021/11/06 19:40 ID: hjl5vyj

You have at least 850 watt psu right, and you disabled CSM , and enabled resizable bar in bios, and above 4G decode, disable performance bias.

and if you have software for your mouse reduce polling rate to 125
