Already we're seeing textures at 1440p that need 11gb of vram, i would hear 8gb is enough for 1440p but with modern games recently that's turning out to be untrue, I'm new to the whole "pc masterrace" and a kid new to pc building, but if an amd gpu is available for cheap I'll try to get it

Yes

It will age better, alot.
VRAM matters
ID: hjm09qgID: hjlwhaeSo the 390x 8gb is much better then the 5600xt right if vram matters
ID: hjlyd82You are comparing a 2020 GPU to a 2015 GPU. They are comparing a 2020 GPU to a 2020 GPU. 390x was already aged by the time 5600xt released. This is a bad analogy.
ID: hjlycmoif you had a program that scaled more with memory amount than bandwidth then yes. SAM + PCIe 4 + GDDR6 likely offsets a lot of the overhead when swapping between system memory and VRAM, but you're comparing apples to oranges here. a better comparison for this would be 5500XT 4GB vs 8GB, 3080Ti 12GB vs 3090 24GB

literally the third to post right now...
ID: hjls08rI was thinking about trying to chase down nvidia gpus or amd gpus (like i had a choice lol) but 6700 xt(s) seem to be going for rather cheap and i want to do blender rendering but was disappointed tbe 6700xts vram didn't help it so much

Yes it will age better and there is also SAM that helps a lot to feed the VRAM too.
ID: hjlva3rBtw how does SAM work?

AMD already ages better without even considering VRAM. But that will also become an issue for Ampere. But in the end all 3070 and 3080 owners will have to do is drop texture quality to medium or high.

I'm not sure why you are telling alot that, but alot listens.
