Am I the only one that hates how you can’t search for anything about the original RE2 now?

RE2make is very popular, so everytime you search for something like "RE2 guide", only stuff from the remake will show up. You have to add "1998", "original" or "PS1" for stuff from the 1998 game to show up.

If you type in “-remake” it should remove any results regarding the new version

That's useful. Thank you.

You just solved your own problem. Just type ‘98 after and it’ll be fine.

I was just thinking about this.

It’s why I like that the FF VII remake added REMAKE to its title to differentiate itself as a separate entry. Makes it easier for discussion and doesn’t replace the original

That's how it goes. The Internet has a recency bias, especially in the era of short attention spans. But it's not hard to just add '1998' and voila, you have the search results you want.

This 100%

That's the case with literally everything that has been remade...

Not really..not every remake becomes more popular than the original. Metal Gear Solid of PS1 probably gets way more hits than Twin Snakes on Gamecube, and especially for many movie remakes the original still remains far more popular. eg. The Thing (2011 vs. 1982), Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead and so on.. Point being you can find plenty of examples of both kinds 😉

The difference is that most video game remakes make the older games more accessible to players today. The same can't be said about unnecessary film remakes that do poorly as compared to the original source material

Also, John Carpenter's The Thing is a remake.

The 3 or 4 extra characters can’t be THAT much of an inconvenience

I was literally experiencing this, but with RE3. Paat couple of days a friend of mine decided to play the original RE3 for some reason and I was excited to watch him stream it (he's never played any RE except 5). That said RE3 is one of my least played games so I don't know everything about it, I was looking up a strategy to beat Clocktower garden Nemesis. Every single search result was for R3make.

At least with RE3 you could just add "Nemesis"

ID: hjwdfz3

You would think that, which is what I tried afterwards, but nah. Still tons of remake results

ID: hjxvyo6

at least with RE2 you can just add 1998, '98, original, which you already established in your post

This is the most pointless bitching I’ve ever read.

10 : Anonymous2021/11/09 07:59 ID: hjwvfyd

I’ve been looking for painting references for the RE2 board game, so I know what you mean 🙂

11 : Anonymous2021/11/09 08:16 ID: hjwwmpn

How you think I feel when I look for what if story fanfictions for any franchise without getting marvel related results

12 : Anonymous2021/11/09 09:42 ID: hjx2dtq

Been dealing with this with RE3 the past couple days. Slight inconvenience.

13 : Anonymous2021/11/09 15:36 ID: hjy27s4

That's usually what happens when a remake happens, yes.

14 : Anonymous2021/11/09 04:51 ID: hjwf136

I have played it so many times that I could probably play it in my sleep.

15 : Anonymous2021/11/09 15:39 ID: hjy2qun

Same with 3. I remember having to type in a variation of "Resident Evil 3 1999 Nemesis original" to find info about it.

Remakes as an idea are a mistake
