ID: hkotdj5i ran that exact build for a while. 8320 and 2 r9 290xs it took some tinkering to make work but when it worked it was great. crossfire scared normies off because it wasnt set it and forget but when you got it to work it was rx vega performance in 2013.

HD5870 and HD5850 in crossfire, with an i7 920. if I remember correctly it was the first generation where you could mismatch cards in crossfire? Loved that build.

I used to have 2x X1900XTX cards in crossfire. This was when they used the external dongle and not the internal bridge. You could crossfire an X1900 with an X1800 for example.

Oh this takes me back. I had a couple of 7970s in crossfire. Water cooled too.
That shit ran hot!
ID: hklk9xmHad that too, they killed my corsair 750 watt psu. Both cards where flashed with ghz bios and ran 1030mhz 24/7. My only problem was with dying light. Cf caused flickering.

ID: hkp9kekNot quite. It went through to the rebadging, as seen in my flair, and they had a legitimate, albeit desperate, point when they used Crossfired 480s to beat a GTX 1080. On top of that, Fury X's in Crossfire absolutely crucified the celebrated 980ti and Titan X in SLI.
What really banished it to the shadow realm was DX12. With it shifting much of the onus for multi-GPU onto developers we soon saw how much of that Crossfire/SLI capability was down to AMD and Nvidia covering for shitty optimisation. Now we're seeing them seriously expect people to buy their games at release and sit on them for three years until a single chip fast enough to brute-force their questionable optimisation comes along. It's fucking heartbreaking.

Do you still use it, is it usable at all? HD 5850 was a good card, but I remember someone I know having one needing to hack his driver in order to play video games. They ceased driver support many years ago.
ID: hkl9w4eYou can pretty much get the latest drivers for the 5000 series using the Nimez Driver Mod . They work very well according to people on here.
ID: hkl7d9hyou can actually run the latest opengl windows games on low settings, you just need to use linux with the R600_debug=nir env variable and run games with wine

The last dual GPU build I had was a pair of 7900GTXs in SLI mated to a Core 2 Quad Q6600 OC'd to 3.2GHz, and also had two WD Raptors in RAID0. All to get the most of Battlefield 2!

Pretty sure you only need one crossover link.
Source: I ran a crossfire rig roughly a decade ago, and it worked great with a single crossover link. They’re spaced like that so you can run a triple-crossfire setup if you have the hardware for it.

Does it work with resolutions higher than 1080p? Because I had to get rid of my crossfire setup (2x 6970) because anything over 1080p would not render on the second card and the setup was useless.

Had a guy selling some v10 for 25$ each locally almost picked one up kinda regret not to now. Would have looked real good without the shroud with some noctua swaps.

Currently have a pair of RX 580 8Gb cards in a CrossfireX config paired with a R9 3900X. Pain in the butt at times but love it when you can utilize mGPU supported games. Wish more games would support Sli and CrossfireX technologies but i get it that its a niche config option, Nice setup!

I had nearly the same setup! 5850 and 5870 Mac versions, but worked fine in my pc for Diablo 3 and a little bitcoin mining back then. I also had to remove the metal plate from the 5870 to make it fit.

I still use a Radeon HD 6950
Its alright with cooling but the processor just overheats to 90 or 95 degrees Celsius
So I have to keep my case open :/ -
i had 5770's in crossfire then a single 6850, then 2x 7870ghz edition in crossfire then r9 290 then 2x r9 290 in crossfire then crossfire dies. 🙁 then 5700xt... ? ... profit

Back in 2014/15 I almost bought a second 290x to crossfire with the one I had because the prices were coming down in advance of the 300 series. Kinda wish I'd have followed through with that.
