- I would argue that this was and still is the greatest era in gaming.
-
golden era for couch co-op or local multiplayer, also one of the biggest jump in graphical technology, the difference between PS1 & PS2 is amazing.

Every system of this era had some incredible all time great games. Some real powerful exclusives were on each system and you could justify owning every system in this era for different reasons.
ID: hl1ww1qN64 really should have made the list. That was revolutionary and the games were fun to play, not just to watch.
ID: hl1x66vAn era is a generation of consoles. The N64 wasn't in this generation.
-
Oh. How I miss those LAN parties and split screen
-
Agreed
-
And not just the consoles, but also the great collection of games made for them. Some people still come back to those games
ID: hl1tyonLoad a game and it’s done Apart from sometimes have to blow in the cart sometimes Now it’s load disc wait hours for it to install and download buy a subscription

100% agree
-
No doubt

Dreamcast
-
Being 14 and packing my Gamecube, and Xbox up to take to my friends house that had the other 2. Was fun weekends of gaming. How I wish I still had my Gamecube.
-
It's the era everything has been based on for the last 20 years because nothing has been as good.
Literally PlayStation one shirts being sold in kohls
-
Worked at best buy. We would bring our Xbox and link em up with the big screen tvs and play halo. Grand turismo got me into cars.
-
I’ll never forget the feeling of getting to know someone new and they ask, “Do you play Melee?”
-
I tell you what, dude.
I'm willing to accept that there were 2 great eras of console gaming.
This era, that you pointed out, was absolutely one of them.
The other era was that of the NES/SNES/Sega Genesis/Turbo Grafx 16.

Childhood right here
-
Droppin' truth bombs on all these zoomers
-
Devs tried different things, and while the platforms worried about competition,, the gamers had less of it. Gamers seemed to evangelize their faves as opposed to wanting to break down the others. Seemed a more civilized time to be a gamer.
-
Easily the best. By far.
-
I was lucky enough to own 3 of the 4 (no xbox) my two first pay cheques at 16 were spent on the silver windwaker edition GC and then an ipod video (5.5g) what a time to be alive.
-
The 6th and 7th generations were filled with just so, so many great classics. Miss those times
-
I agree but only if we include playing games of that generation on PC.
While these consoles were outputting 480i/p, PC gamers were playing games at resolutions from 1024x768 to 1600x1200. On 15” and 17” displays, this was practically HD.

Powerstone
-
GameCube had the carry handle
-
True but you gotta admit there's plenty of games from current or recent gen that we consider "okay" but if we could have seen them back then would blow our minds
-
The look of each console is so simple and tame yet all provide a base theme for their respective brands

I will never forget getting my first big paycheck from a new job right before 9/9/99, and buying my Dreamcast, an arcade stick for fighting games, the keyboard, two VMUs, the VGA adapter to use with a monitor for higher resolution graphics, and Sonic Adventure / Soul Calibur.
Second week I had it, brought it to my friend's place, his Dad insisted I hook it up in the living room, and all of us stared in awe at Soul Calibur's intro screen. Blew our minds.
Good times!

Anyone else remember the crystal see through xbox they made?
-
It was the best era for coop games, lan games, and mostly multiplayer, nowadays there are 8 year olds playing MW remaster talking about how you screwed your mom last night
-
where PC?
-
Golden era of not having to pay Sony to play multiplayer….
-
PC had 1000 incredible games in this time period as well.
-
Never lied. Dreamcast, GameCube, PSP, and PS2 were the staples of a nigh-perfect childhood.
-
I'm looking at my OG ps2 right now. Legend of Dragoon is the only game I have left.
-
Ngl my pp is really hard now because I saw that GameCube
-
"Everyone was experimenting, and nobody gave a fuck." -The Act Man
-
I would argue SNES/Genesis and PS3/Wii/XbOne were both better, but this era was pretty damn good

ID: hl1t7bkI don't know about you but I would rather have a complete game on day 1 than endless patches and season passes

Sure why not

Dreamcast? No sorry, thats pure nostalgia and not much else. Those games were really weird.
ID: hl1y1u6That's what made them unique and awesome. Dreamcast is arguably the most underrated console of all time.

Plus the dreamcast was aggressive about pushing its tech. The memory card you could play on and it affects your game, going online, games like Seaman that were voice activated. I loved it and miss mine. Power Stone was so much fun
